Caleb Rivers is a character in Pretty Little Liars a television series on ABC Family. Caleb was also a main character on Ravenswood, an ABC Family television series, and the spin-off of Pretty Little Liars. He is portrayed by Tyler Blackburn.
Caleb is a street-smart kid at Rosewood High, former housemate of Lucas Gottesman, and a former spy for Jenna Marshall. Caleb has a sketchy past and illegally upgrades and fixes people's phones for money when he first moved to Rosewood. He also hacks things for Aria, Hanna, Spencer, and Emily. Caleb was the first person besides Dr. Sullivan to be told about "A" and actively worked on decrypting files from "A's" phone to help Hanna and her friends. In Season 3, he got shot by Lyndon James after finding Emily and Lyndon in the lighthouse at the Lighthouse Rock Inn, but he has recovered since.
Caleb was given up by his biological mother, Claudia Dawson, twelve years ago when he was five years old, leading him to live in different foster care homes and with different foster parents. Caleb is open to reuniting with Claudia for a visit when she extends the offer to him in Season 2. Living in foster care and his relationship with Hanna has greatly changed Caleb's outlook on the future. Caleb used to work for car thieves as a computer hacker in Allentown, but realized it was wrong and moved away.
He also realized spying on Hanna was wrong so he backed away from Jenna and told Hanna the truth when she confronted him about it. But because of this they broke up but she eventually forgives him and they get back together again in Season 2. He is reunited with his uncle, who Hanna figured out was in fact Caleb's dad, Jamie. Even though Caleb has had lots of family problems, Hanna is always there to support her boyfriend after he helps her with Mona.
He helps track down the van that A kidnapped the girls from as seen in the season 5 finale (season 5 episode 25). He successfully saves Aria, Hanna, Spencer, and Emily from A and the dollhouse and has been since helping Hanna recover from her trauma in the dollhouse.
Emily's phone so that she could call Maya at her reform school. He could tell Emily is desperate, so he charges her an extra 40 bucks for a rush job.
Hanna and Emily pick up her phone at the dance, where Caleb cryptically tells Hanna that while he may not know much about her, she doesn't know much about herself either.
Hanna and Caleb begin to see each other more and more in the hallways and finally talk when (where she would discover Aria and Mr. Fitz). He uses his phone to stage that his social worker has dismissed him from detention.
The next day, Caleb gives Hanna a piece from Ella Montgomery's car, which he had removed the day before. When Hanna finds him, she is pleased, but isn't outwardly grateful. She does offer him money, but Caleb says he wants something else; he doesn't know what yet, but he'll think about it.
The next day in the hallways, Hanna expresses her concern over Caleb living in school. He brushes off her sympathy, and Hanna introduces him to Bridget Wu in exchange for Caleb listing all the places that he previously lived in. The two continue this banter, exchanging names for information, and their friendship grows.
Later, Hanna finds Caleb unexpectedly introducing himself to Ashley.Hanna's mother is concerned about her daughter becoming friends with Caleb, wary of his secretive, sarcastic personality.
After that incident, Hanna ignores and avoids Caleb as much as possible. Thinking that she didn't want him in her house anymore, he prepares to leave. Hanna reluctantly tells the truth and Caleb is tender towards this. Touched, Hanna kisses him, which escalates into a full-on make out. Thus, the two of them begin to secretly date.
After Ashley forces Caleb out of the house, Hanna goes with him and they camp out in the woods. They talk about their past and roasting marshmallows, when they start kissing. Hanna later loses her virginity to him in the tent. After Hanna comes home the next morning, Ashley lets her know that she was about to call the police, worried about Hanna. But Hanna snaps back at her mother, surprised that she doesn't sympathize with Caleb's plight. Realizing that her relationship with Hanna is at risk of being compromised, Ashley picks up the phone when Caleb calls Hanna, and invite him to dinner.
Caleb comes over for dinner. Afterwards, Ashley allows Caleb stay in the guest bedroom for Hanna's sake. It can be seen that Ashely begins to accept Hanna's new boyfriend when she tells him to address her as "Ashley," instead of "Mrs. Marin." Caleb then steps outside to make a mysterious phone call; whoever he is speaking to, he lets him/her know that he is no longer willing to assist.
At school, Aria and Emily overhear Caleb mysteriously speaking on the phone with someone, telling this person that something cannot happen that night. He keeps referring to "her," and it becomes clear after he mentions that he is living in "her" house that this "her" is Hanna. The other person seems to be hashing on Hanna and instructing him to accomplish some negative task. All the while, Caleb is defending Hanna. His phone conversation is overheard by Emily and Aria, and they conclude that Caleb is talking to another girl in a romantic way. When they share their suspicions with Hanna at lunch, she refuses to believe that Caleb would do such a thing. However, when Jenna walks into the lunch room wearing the owl pendent that was found earlier around her neck, Hanna is devastated. She tries to text Caleb, but he doesn't answer.
Spencer then watches Jenna outside, who is working on her laptop. Spencer finds out that the owl is a flash drive when she sees Jenna plugging it into her computer. Hanna tries to reach Caleb for answers, but he is M.I.A., so she writes him a note and slips it into his locker. She starts to walk away, but then pauses and turns around. Remembering the Jenna's 2-1-4 message provided by Toby, Hanna tries to open Caleb's locker with the combination, and to her surprise, it works. She is furious and hashes out on Caleb when she returns home from school. He replied he never meant to hurt her, adding the fact he told Jenna that he couldn't help her anymore once things between him and Hanna started happening. She is not satisfied with this his explanation, and makes him leave.
Hanna breaks down, heartbroken over what Caleb has done, and Ashley is disheartened. When checking up on her daughter, Hanna pretends to be taking a bath, but her mother knows that she is really crying alone in the bathroom.
Then, Hanna approaches Caleb, where he is sitting reading an outdoor bench. Caleb is hopeful that this means that they are on speaking terms again. However, Hanna just asks to sit next to him to ask about Jenna. Caleb reveals that Jenna was looking for a key, though Hanna has no clue why or for what reason. Caleb explains that it was related to Allison. Caleb then asks Hanna a few questions regarding "the Jenna Thing". But, she retorts saying that she gets to ask the questions. After Hanna exhausts everything that Caleb knows, he brings up the issue of their relationship, and admits that he misses her. Hanna nods for a moment, brushes it off her shoulders, and walks away.
In the evening, Caleb tries to give Hanna a special goodbye letter before leaving Rosewood for Arizona, explaining his feelings for her and of course, apologizing. He goes to the Marins' residence to drop off the note for Hanna, but Hanna has gone to work a booth at the Founders Day, and Mrs. Marin tells him that Hanna does not need another guy in her life leaving without saying goodbye. After the encounter with Mrs. Marin giving him this advice, Caleb seeks Hanna out at the festival. Though, when Hanna sees him, she hides, and Caleb gives the letter to Mona. Mona reads the letter, rips it up and throws it away. (The last line on the letter reads, "I love you Hanna.")
Later, Hanna sees Caleb boarding the bus out of Rosewood. When Aria encourages Hanna to go talk to him, she simply walks away believing that Caleb didn't even bother telling her goodbye.
At the end of the episode, we see Caleb ride back to Rosewood with Lucas.
Caleb is currently back in Rosewood and staying at Lucas' house. Earlier, Lucas had brought Caleb back to Rosewood to reunite with Hanna, but even though Hanna was relieved to hear that Caleb had tried to say goodbye before he left, she still was not ready to forgive him yet.
During the date, Caleb is back at Hanna's place joking around with her like old times, though Hanna seems annoyed by this. When Lucas informs Hanna that Danielle's assumption that Hanna s still into Lucas is ruining their date, she asks Caleb to embrace her, thus settling Danielle's fears and enabling her to get close to Lucas. Caleb is happy to embrace Hanna again, but she remarks that she isn't easy, letting him know she did it for their audience, not him.
Janet about taking the checks the government gives her for raising Caleb. After Ian's funeral, Caleb brings food and ice for Hanna, and reveals that he knows that Hanna threatened Janet. They kiss as he is about to leave.

Caleb returns from California after visiting his mother for a month. The Greenhouse to Caleb hoping he would be able to decrypt the files in it. But, while downloading the information from the phone, the owner abruptly shuts it down. Caleb manages to get a few files but says that its going to take some time decrypting them as they are corrupted. Even though Hanna is reluctant, the others insist that he work on the files.
The next day, Hanna sees Caleb working on the files at school. Even though she's worried, Caleb assures her that no one knows what he's working on. When he asks about who's phone it is, Hanna does not give him a proper answer and instead calls out to Lucas, who is passing by, and makes plans to study after school.
At the Marins' Home, Hanna is studying with Lucas. While doing so, she gets a text from Spencer offering her lake house for Hanna and Caleb. Hanna suddenly gets the idea of throwing a surprise birthday party for Caleb and asks Lucas to help her.
At school, Caleb shows the girls a picture which he finally cracked from the one of the files. The photo shows four dolls which look exactly like the ones the girls received. He wants to know what the girls are exactly looking for but Spencer cuts him off saying that it's really great and asks him to forward the picture to all their phones. Aria, Emily and Spencer leave. When Hanna and Caleb are alone, Caleb really wants some answers but Hanna again changes the subject asking him what he wants for his birthday and then making out with him.
On his birthday, Caleb arrives at Spencer's Lake House to find Hanna totally drenched. When he asks about what happened, Hanna meekly mumbles, "surprise."
Later, Caleb comes to Hanna's house and at the same time, gets a call from Hanna. Confused, he answers the phone. He immediately rushes to Hanna when he hears Lucas's threatening voice in the background. Caleb asks what Lucas did and where he has been. Lucas reveals that he lost $4,000 in a bet over a basketball game, the money which belonged to Caleb. It was a sure thing until the team got disqualified. To compensate, he had been driving around and selling his comic books. Lucas apologizes and gives him some of the money. Caleb assures him that they will figure something out.
Around the end of the episode we see Caleb talk to Spencer and Emily about the flash-drive Hanna destroyed and promises to keep working on the phone in exchange knowledge on what is going on and what Hanna is so afraid of him finding.
Hanna confronts Caleb when she asks him to come see her. She asked him why he would go behind her back knowing how long it took her to trust him. Also telling him he's not the only person she's trying to protect. She then tells him about the serious money issue's her family went through, how they almost lost their house and how Ashley stole money from the bank to keep that from happening. Caleb is thanks her for trusting him enough to tell him. Hanna also tells him someone else knows and is holding it over her and when Caleb asks who it is she responds with "I don't know but its their phone you're working on".
Caleb thinking the phone belongs to Jenna knowing her history with the girls and how she had him spy on Hanna for her, storms over to her house only to find no one home. As he is about to leave he is confronted by Garrett, who asks him what is he doing her late at night. Caleb tells him that he wants her to stop threatening Hanna but Garrett tells him he needs to be a lot scarier if he wants Jenna to stop anything. He then tries driving his car into Caleb bike in effort of scaring him away.
While in the music room the students are told to write something something truthful down and that it will be kept anonymous. Jenna refuses saying that people in the school have mistreated her and that it was full of phonies and liars. When Jenna goes to tell Mrs. Hastings on how she was cornered and slap in the girls restroom, Caleb immediately rebuffs that comment saying that if she did tell the truth that she would have to admit she threw the first punch.
Later on he and Hanna are on the roof of the school and Caleb tries to comfort her, reassuring her that her mother doesn't believe she sent that picture. He asks for her phone to see if he can trace the IP address on who actually sent the photo. Hanna refuses and tells him the way he can help her is by holding her. Caleb reluctantly gives up on trying to get her phone and kisses her.
At the end of the episode we see 'A' sneak into the assembly hall where Caleb is sleeping and take his laptop.
Caleb and Hanna talk in the empty computer room, where Hanna is freaking out, but Caleb is calm. He assures Hanna that he didn't do what they think he did, and there is no way they will be able to get past his firewall without his help. Hanna says that someone did get into his laptop, and they put the evidence in there somewhere he wouldn't find it, and she thinks the person who did that might be Garrett. She suggests Caleb to go online, log into his computer remotely and delete the files. But when he tries, he can't connect, which he says means one of two things: either the police haven't tried messing with it yet, or they're smart enough to keep it offline.
Later, Caleb is at the police station. He calls Hanna and tells her that he plans to cooperate, as he doesn't seem to have a choice. As Caleb notices Darren and Garrett arriving, he quickly tells Hanna that he is in a very hot spot and that he needs her help, hanging up before he can elaborate, and is lead out of the room by the two cops. Darren hands Caleb his laptop and says he is going to watch him log in, telling him there better not be any funny business. Caleb types in his password, switching his laptop online. Caleb is told to stand at the other end of the room, while Darren and Garrett go through his files.
Garrett and Darren open the folder in question, just as the final files are erased. Shocked, they try to get them back and accuse Caleb of doing something, but Caleb simply says he was hacked and probably has a virus or something, silently knowing Hanna came through.
Mona and Caleb conspicuously kiss in Mona's car. Before the kiss, Mona confides in Caleb that she is jealous that Hanna found someone solid like him, while she has had only short-term relationships. Melissa catches sight of the two. Caleb is reluctant, but does it for Hanna, who is unhappy but not threatened by the ordeal.
Caleb has been taking cooking classes with Hanna during the summer. Caleb and Hanna plan to go together to buy the things they need for cooking, but Hanna bails, telling him that she has an appointment with Dr. Sullivan. So, she gives him the list, and promises to make an unforgettable Dong Po for dinner.
That night, Caleb and Hanna are cooking together. He asks about her session with Dr. Sullivan, and is surprised to hear that she doesn't talk about them. He even calls them intimate, much to Hanna's amazement.
Later, at Hanna's house, Caleb brings dinner. As they sit down, he notices that Hanna is very distracted. Frustrated, he confronts her and asks for the truth. Hanna reveals that she has to go see Mona. Caleb is shocked, but Hanna says she is having an "ambiguous loss." Caleb is surprised to hear her use such big words, but ultimately agrees to go with her to the Radley the next day, not wanting them to sneak around each other.
At Radley, Caleb waits outside, while Hanna goes inside to see Mona. Just then, Wren walks up to him, and introduces himself. He tells that Hanna has been visiting Mona for a while now, which comes as news to Caleb. He also learns that Hanna has been talking to Wren a lot, when Wren mentions the term "ambiguous loss."
Caleb goes and tries to talk to Lucas in the chem lab. Lucas asks what he wants and Caleb says that he tried to set fire to his girlfriend. Lucas says something about how he got in trouble. Caleb then asks him if there is anything he wants to talk about and Lucas tells him to mind his own business. Caleb says he would and is pretty good about doing that, but there are other people involved, meaning Hanna. Lucas says he is sorry about that and Caleb then tells him that he knows all about Mona being A and the walks out.
At Radley, Caleb waits for Hanna outside. When she sees him, she thinks he followed her but Caleb is mad that she lied to him because she said that she would stop seeing Mona. Hanna assures him that Mona isn't crazy and that she just wants answers. Hanna also lets it slip that Mona was the one who ran her over. Caleb is angry at this but before he can say anything, Lucas walks out. Hanna wants to know why he is there but Lucas doesn't say much and walks away. Caleb puts his hand on her shoulders.
Caleb goes back to Radley to see Mona but Hanna doesn't know. He listens to her as she tells him about her Uncle teaching her how to play some card games and that it helps pass the time while in here. Caleb cuts to the chase about why he is here and that is for Hanna. He tells her not to mess with Hanna and also mentions that he gets to walk out that door while she doesn't. Mona then responds by saying he was a lousy kisser and then flips the table going really crazy. While the guards hold her back, Caleb leaves Radley.
Caleb's mom gets into a car accident but she is okay. Caleb goes over to Hanna's house because she had to tell him something. Hanna doesn't tell him anything though so Caleb decides to leave because he is tired of her shutting him out. Caleb feels like Hanna has been pushing him away for weeks and that is not good enough for him. Caleb gives Hanna one last chance to tell him, but she doesn't. Caleb then breaks up with Hanna.
Caleb is later at a hang out place alone looking sad because he had to break up with Hanna.
At school, Spencer sees Caleb getting out of his new car that his mom gave him after her accident. He drove it back from California because he had a lot of thinking to do. Spencer then asks him how to get around a tough password. Caleb catches on that she is talking about a real website in which Spencer confesses that she needs help getting onto a website because she can't crack it. Caleb wants to know who's site it is.
Caleb and Spencer sit down at a table as Spencer tells him about Maya's website and how they got it from Mona. They discuss if it is real or not but Spencer says if it is not real, it's a cruel thing to do to Emily. Caleb says he will help her because no matter what happened, Hanna is still important to him and he wants to crush the Mona Monster.
After school, Caleb goes to Spencer house to help her crack the website. They discuss how to crack into tough passwords and how some people have passwords they can remember. Spencer notices that Caleb has a nice computer and he tells her his mom gave it to him. Caleb and Spencer discuss all the new things he got, like the car, the computer and the sweater. Spencer admits that the sweater is $400, which makes Caleb think he should wash it on gentle. But Spencer tells him to take it the dry cleaners even though Caleb is not that type of guy. Spencer tells him that was then and this is now.
Still at Spencer's house, Caleb cracks into the website and Spencer gives him a hug because he did it. They watch the video of Maya telling the people that are watching the video that the website is cursed and they should enter at their own risk.
Caleb shows up at The Grille where Hanna is. Hanna wants him to leave but he wants her to get in the car. He admits that he was the one who sent the text. Hanna gets in the car with him as they drive to an alley. Caleb knows she is scared but Hanna is freaking out because he doesn't know what any of this means. Caleb thinks he knows because she can stop lying to him and they can be together. Hanna furiously gets out of the car as she tells him what A has done including running his mom of the road which scared her.
Caleb talks to Hanna about Maya's website and how if they find clues on there, it could led them to who killed Maya and who this new A could be. Hanna is still furious that he tricked her and doesn't want to go down this road with him again. But Caleb doesn't give up because this New A could be someone close to her, like another Mona. Caleb admits that he is going to help her stop A and is not asking for her permission. He pulls Hanna toward him as they begin to make out.
Caleb sneaks into CeCe's shop in the dressing room as he waits for Hanna. When Hanna comes in, he pulls her into the room to talk. Caleb talked to her mom about not turning in the videos because Wilden could watch Hanna change into a bikini. Caleb tells Hanna he doesn't know how much longer he can do this as he pulls her in for a kiss.
Caleb is in Hanna's room packing things into his bag for their confrontation with "A." Caleb is about to pack a gun when Hanna sees it. She doesn't want him to bring it but Caleb wants to because this "A" ran his mom off the road. Hanna tells him he can forget about coming if he brings it so Caleb puts the gun away. But without Hanna knowing, Caleb takes it with him anyway.
In front of Ali's grave, Caleb shows Hanna, Spencer and Aria the phone voice so Hanna can just to talk into it and he'll hear her. Caleb hides behind some trees as he waits for "A" to arrive. They wait awhile, but Caleb leaves when he overhears a conversation between Hanna, Spencer and Aria about Paige and Emily being at a Lighthouse Hotel. They found two in the county so Caleb goes to one as the girls go to the other.
When Caleb arrives at the lighthouse, he finds Emily with blood on her and sees Nate dead. He puts his gun down as he comforts Emily making sure she is alright. As he is hugging her, presumably Nate takes the gun and shoots Caleb. Caleb is getting into an ambulance with a gunshot wound on his side, which is the reason Hanna is crying profusely. Later in the episode, he undergoes surgery to save his life.
Caleb and Hanna are talking about Mona's locker incident. Hanna suggests that Lucas may be limping after Aria stabbed someone through the box she was locked in on the Halloween train. Caleb says that Lucas haven't been talking much since he revealed that he had lost Caleb's money.
At the school's 10k Aria and Caleb can't believe that everybody has forgotten what Mona was like. Aria asks what it was like to grow up without a dad. Caleb says he would look for him. However, he gave up when he was 13 because he was tired of focusing on someone he never met and started focusing on himself. He does admit, though, that sometimes he does wish that he could meet his dad to replace the person he always imagined with a real person.
Hanna overhears Caleb talking to someone on the phone about her and Mona, saying he will meet up with them later. Later at the brew, Caleb meets Paige and they decide to find evidence to prove that Mona is trouble.
Caleb is able to meet his real father, Jamie, who he thought was his uncle for so many years. In "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted," Jamie and Caleb are able to bond as father and son thanks to Hanna. Hanna is able to help Caleb grow even closer with Jamie after having them meet for coffee and arranging for Jamie fix the church bell tower after the incident where Ian fell to his death.
Hanna decides that Caleb and Jamie have to talk. Rethinking the meet up with Jamie, Hanna calls him and almost tells him to forget about the whole thing since Caleb didn't want to go, but instead just says that she will see him there. Caleb show up just as Hanna was about to leave and agrees to go with her. They go to The Brew where they wait for his father to come.
Hanna and Caleb are about to leave The Brew, convinced that his father wasn't going to show up when Jamie walks through the door. He and Caleb sit down and talk while, and Hanna stays with Caleb, saying “I'd get you a fresh piece [of cake], but if I stand up again it's to pee, and I would rather do that in my pants than leave you two alone.”
Hanna and Caleb are at the church with Jamie, Ashley and the pastor, waiting for Jamie and the pastor to discuss Jamie possibly getting a job at the church. Caleb is so happy that Hanna came up with the plan and tells her that Jamie thinks that she is remarkable and that Caleb is the luckiest person ever. They begin to kiss, but stop as Ashley walks in and tells them that Jamie got the job and they should celebrate with pizza at home. Before walking out, Hanna drops a five dollar bill that has a unique drawing of dice on it into the donation box.
As Emily and Jason leave, the elevator they get on stops suddenly. Jason is able to get the elevator doors open, and Emily jumps down to the floor. When she does, the doors close and the elevator falls down the shaft with Jason in it.Jamie, the job at the church. Hanna seems unenthusiastic and is still worrying about the church money she saw that Jamie had.
Caleb rants to Hanna about how his father is innocent about the church bell, and she reveals that she saw her money donation to the church in Jamie's wallet. Caleb is heartbroken, but believes her.Jamie comes to Hanna's house, and is confronted by Caleb. Caleb yells at him, and Jamie seems confused, but leaves when Caleb tells him to. They cut off ties, and Caleb is hurt that his father betrayed him again.
Caleb and Hanna are talking at the carnival, and Caleb sadly tells her about how he'd hoped his father would be there for him this time. When Caleb goes to get them coffee, the church bell tolls, and Hanna gets an "A" text revealing that Jamie was framed. Caleb comes up behind her and looks at her phone, reading the text.
Later, Hanna talks to Caleb about her mom not being in New York, and Caleb says all they know for sure is that she wasn't at the play. Hanna says she's going to end up without a mom or a dad, and Caleb asks if Ashley has talked to Hanna's dad about what is going on. She says no because her parents only communicate through attorneys. Caleb says it isn't a bad idea to talk to an attorney about this before Ashley gets finds herself in trouble with the police.
Caleb goes to find Mr. Marin at his office and tells him what is going on. Caleb tells him that Wilden was giving his ex-wife and his daughter a hard time and now he's dead. He tells them he is worried the police will try to pin the murder on Ashley. He says they need help: Ashley is going to need a lawyer and Hanna needs to know that her dad is there for her. Tom says he will keep it in mind and leaves. As Caleb is walking home, Tom drives up to him and if Ashley sent him to talk to him. Caleb says no, and guesses that already Tom knew Ashley was in Rosewood that night. Tom says Ashley came to his house and asked for money. They talked in the garage. He says it was more money than he had at the time, and Isabel was calling him into another room. When he came back, Ashley was gone. Tom says he did something that he had been afraid to do since Wilden was found dead. He keeps a gun in his desk at home, and he finally looked in the desk and saw that it was missing.
Outside the school, Caleb and Hanna talk. Caleb tells Hanna about the missing gun from Tom Marin's drawer, saying that it was a .38. He says that if the police find out that Darren Wilden was shot with a .38, it is most likely that Ashley killed Wilden. Hanna dismisses what he says, saying that she just wants to forget it all.As Hanna is later talking to Lt. Tanner on a park bench, Caleb shows up and tells Hanna to go with him. Caleb warns Hanna about Lt. Tanner and Holbrook, telling her they are the "real deal," unlike the Rosewood PD.
At Hanna’s house, Lt. Tanner and Holbrook visit to question Ashley. As Hanna lies about her not being home and Lt. Tanner questions why her car is there, Caleb lies he was the one who drove her car, and two cops leave. Ashley looks down from upstairs and turns away while Caleb and Hanna hug.
Hanna mentions that Caleb is away camping with his dad.
In a playground, Hanna finds Caleb on the swings, and asks why he hasn't returned any of her calls. He tells her that Travis is a nice guy and he did not come back to screw that up. Hanna asks him why he came back, but instead of answering he asks her if she changed her hair because Alison is back. Shrugging, Hanna tells him probably.
Hanna asks Caleb if Miranda found her family, and Caleb tells her he doesn’t know, “the night you left Ravenswood was the last time I saw her”. Hanna gets a text message, and getting up off the swing she tells Caleb he is coming with her, and they have to go.
Arriving at Emily's house, Caleb and Hanna find Emily, Alison, Toby, Spencer, Aria and Ezra already there. Emily tells them that it's starting, and as they move into the living room Caleb and Alison share a look. As the press conference starts, Caleb grabs hold of Hanna's hand. The Police Chief explains that they've received confirmation tonight that the girl that was buried alive on the DiLaurentis property was Bethany Young. As the Police Chief is finishing up the press conference, a large boom is heard and windows of Emily's lounge room explode. Recovering from the glass blast, Caleb questions “what was that?!” Walking out onto the street to see the Cavanaugh house on fire and rubble lying all over the road, Caleb wonders if there is anyone inside, so Toby runs towards the house to check.
In the Brew, Hanna spots Caleb sitting down at one of the tables and walks over to him. Commenting that he looks as if he's got as much sleep as her, Caleb tells her he was with Toby until around an hour ago, and when Hanna asks how Toby is, Caleb says that he's still pretty shaken. Hanna still doesn't understand why 'A' would blow the Cavanaugh house up when they were all a few doors down, and Caleb reminds her, "A doesn't shoot and miss". Asking if Hanna's seen the newspaper, he hands it over and Hanna is shocked to find that the police are not looking into what caused the gas leak at the Cavanaugh home, "the cops in this town should be riding around in clown cars". When Caleb suggests that the girls should tell the cops everything, Hanna wonders what they could say, they don't have a face or a name. Caleb tells her this isn't a game, "A blew up a house", and Hanna says she can't, it'll unravel too much. Telling him that things are not the same as when he left, Caleb tells her he's noticed, and that he won't be staying long, he's thinking of going to Montecito for a while. Hanna says that she just thought if he wasn't in Ravenswood, he would be here, but Caleb doesn't want to commit to anything.
Caleb is packing when Hanna knocks on the door of the cabin he's staying in, telling him that Toby told her where she could find him. When Caleb asks if something happened, Hanna tells him that Alison was going to leave town, for good, and she was helping her. Caleb says that he understands Alison wanting to leave, and Hanna says she realised she wasn't helping Alison to leave to keep her safe, part of her wanted Alison gone. Caleb that it makes sense, Hanna never liked who she was when Alison was around, and Hanna admits that she still wants Alison gone, "Hanna, whatever she's stirred up inside of you is not going to go away. Even if she leaves. I should know, I left Ravenswood and half of it is still with me". When Hanna asks what really happened in Ravenwood, Caleb doesn't answer, and Hanna tells him she hopes he decides to stay. Grabbing his flask, Caleb takes a mouthful before handing it over to Hanna to take a drink.
Caleb is signing in for his exam, when Alison walks into the classroom and says that it’s good to see him again, now that the smoke has cleared, and Caleb comments that his ears are still ringing. Alison says that she’s glad she’s not the only one that has to take the tests, but Caleb tells her he’s taking them to get out, while she’s taking them to get in. Alison mentions that either way it all comes down to the same time, pass or fail, win or lose. When Caleb asks Alison if that’s what she learnt those two years “someone had you in a box”, Alison says that she got out of the box and Caleb tells her with a bit of help from her friends. When Alison tells him that everyone needs someone to depend on, Caleb tells her she seems to need a lot of support, but Alison doesn’t understand what he means. Caleb tells her he’s not sure either, and he doesn’t know her that well, to which Alison tells him he doesn’t know her at all. Caleb tells her she’s right, “I just know you from what you leave behind. Like a tornado”.
Walking into the Marin house through the French doors, Caleb tells Hanna that he got her ‘S.O.S’ while he was at the store, “what’s going on? What’s wrong?” When Hanna asks him what he sad to Alison, and he only questions her “what?”, Hanna says that Alison just left her a message, pissed, before asking Caleb what he said to her and if he was trying to catch her in a lie. Grabbing a beer from the plastic bag he placed on the kitchen counter, Caleb says that he doesn’t need to catch her, “I’m way ahead of her”. Caleb wonders why Hanna cares if Alison is pissed, she’s trying to dump her anyway, but Hanna says that she doesn’t need him doing that for her. Asking what Caleb what he just uncapped, and Caleb telling her it’s a beer, Hanna asks what they are celebrating. Caleb tells her they’re celebrating his freedom and that he walked out of the stupid test. Hanna asks why he would do that, and Caleb tells her that algebra and civics don’t mean anything in the real world. Telling him that he is making some really great life choices right now, Caleb tells her it’s call a decision, “and you’re just mad that I can make them. You can’t”. Asking how this is for a decision, Hanna tells Caleb he needs to leave, now, she has a dinner to go to. Putting the beer he was drinking down, Caleb grabs the others in the plastic bag, and telling Hanna to enjoy the pot roast, he leaves.
Walking into the Brew, Caleb buys three brownies and paying for his desserts, he spots Hanna sitting on the couch. Walking over, Caleb asks Hanna if she blew off her dinner, but Hanna tells him that she got kicked out. Shocked, Caleb asks what happened, and if Emily’s mom caught her spitting into her napkin. Sitting down, Caleb says that he probably shouldn’t be giving advice about her friends, and she should handle Alison, but Hanna cuts him off, telling him she doesn’t want to talk about Alison, she wants to take about them. When Caleb asks what she means, Hanna explains that she may be having a hard time making decision lately, but so has he, and when it comes to her, he’s been on the fence ever since he’s got back. Caleb says that they’ve talked about this, “you and Travis”, but Hanna cuts in telling him that there is no her and Travis, not when Caleb’s back. Hanna asks Caleb what he wants, and sighing, Caleb tells her he doesn’t know, “the time that I spent away from here, it made me question a lot. I’m not the same person, I learned stuff about my family, me, the world”. Pausing, Caleb goes on to say that when he looks around the room, he doesn’t see the same stuff he used to see, and when Hanna asks if he still sees her, Caleb tells her of course. Hanna suggests that they should just start there, and looking at each other, Hanna leans in to kiss him. Pulling back, they look at each other and as Hanna’s hand finds Caleb’s, they lean in for another longer, more meaningful kiss.
Hanna vents to Caleb in his car about Alison and how she is staying at her house, before asking if he brought in the bag between them. As Hanna pulls out a bottle of alcohol, Caleb comments that he thought he was supplying beverages, before wondering if Hanna wants to go on a trip with him. When Hanna wonders if he means somewhere further than his cabin, Caleb tells her somewhere far, “you are not the only one who needs to change it up”. Questioning how Hanna feels about Japan, and Hanna telling him she can’t, Caleb suggests Myanmar, only for Hanna that if she can’t spell it or pronounce it, she can’t go there. Hanna asks if Caleb has anything to cut the alcohol with, and Caleb mentions that he was just going to wait they got back to his place, before asking Hanna is she wants to stop to get sodas. Hanna comments that she needs a sandwich, she’s starving, and asking Caleb if he wants anything, something he shakes his head to, Hanna opens the car door and gets out.
At Caleb’s cabin, Hanna says that she thinks he should take her home, and taking a pull of his beer, Caleb tells her he can’t drive right now, “I can call you a cab or something”. Hanna stands up and after fiddling with her skirt, Caleb asks what’s wrong, only for Hanna to tell him that her skirt is too short. Commenting that it’s not, Caleb pulls her over to him and says that “it’s perfect”, before Hanna sits down on his lap and the two share a kiss. As Hanna reaches for her cell phone, Caleb tells her to wait, wondering if they can call the cab company in half an hour, but Hanna tells him she has to go. Caleb asks if everything is okay, and standing up, Hanna tells him it is, she’s just drunk and tired and she wants to sleep.
Sitting in one of the armchairs, Caleb tracks Hanna as she walks into the cabin and grabs a drink, “Hi Caleb… Hey Hanna, how was your day… My day was fine, how was your?” As Hanna sits down in the other armchair, she mentions that her day sucked, and when Caleb asks her what happened, Hanna asks if they could just watch the movie on TV as she’s not in the greatest mood. Caleb wonders if that mood has anything to do with the party they’re not going to, and when Hanna says she’s not going to that party if he paid her, Caleb asks, “and that’s because?” Hanna answers him by saying she’s just not feeling it, and Caleb says he’s never seen her turn down free food and a chance to dress up, “last year for Cinco de Mayo we drove ten miles out of town to a gas station just for the free burrito and a mini sombrero”. Asking why she’s acting so weird about “this”, Hanna tells him what’s weird is going to a party and listening to toasts about eternal love when one in three marriages end in divorce. Caleb questions if Hanna is placing her bets on this marriage, and when Hanna doesn’t answer, Caleb sits up and asks if this has anything to do with the guy Ella is marrying. Taking a moment, Hanna mentions that he’s just gross, and when Caleb asks her to “please be a bit more specific”, Hanna says that he’s a sleaze and he gave her his number and wants to meet up. Hanna adds that no one seems to believe her, to which Caleb says that he believes her, before wondering why she didn’t tell him. Hanna comments that it’s not a big deal, but Caleb tells her it is, and as he tries to say something, Hanna says that it’s embarrassing, only for Caleb to tell her, “for him”, to which Hanna wonders why she’s the one who feels like crawling into a hole and never coming out of it. As Hanna says she doesn’t want to talk about it anymore, Caleb stands up and tells her that there’s not a lot to eat, so he’s going to stop in at Maggiano’s and get Hanna her favourite. After telling Hanna to stay at the cabin and watch the chickiest chick flick she can find, Caleb leans down to kiss her, and telling her that he’ll be back soon, he starts to leave.
Walking into the Brew, Caleb tells Zack that he “just walked in” when Zack asks if he’s with the catering crew. After Zack tells him that they’re closed for a private event, Caleb says that he’s not there for a latte and that he needs to talk with him. As Zack says he is busy, Caleb comments that it sounds like he has been busy “being the kind of scumbag whose begging to get his ass kicked”. When Zack asks what Caleb means, Caleb wonders if he hits on all of Aria’s friends, “or is it just Hanna?” Commenting that Caleb must be the boyfriend, Zack says he respects Caleb for coming by, but it is honestly a misunderstanding and that Hanna took what he said way too seriously. As Zack says that he was just joking, Caleb says he doesn’t know, “she has a pretty good sense of humour and she didn’t find you funny at all”. Zack mentions that he thinks Hanna is jealous and he didn’t want to have to do this, but pulling out a note from his pocket, Zack hands it to Caleb. Grabbing it, Caleb unfolds the paper and reads the note, before saying that Hanna didn’t write it. When Zack says he’s sorry and that Hanna slipped it into his pocket, Caleb takes a swing at his face. Backing away, Caleb tells those around not to worry, he’s not coming back for the party.
Arriving back at the cabin, Caleb walks straight to the fridge and grabs some ice from the freezer, while Hanna asks where he has been. When Caleb mentions that “he’s a piece of crap, but he has a strong jaw”, Hanna watches as Caleb puts some ice in a tea towel, and standing up she says she hopes he didn’t, but Caleb tells her “of course I did”. Caleb tells Hanna that there’s a problem, and Hanna tells him no kidding, before wondering how Zack is going to explain how he got a fat lip. Caleb passes Hanna the note Zack gave him, and reading it, Hanna says that she didn’t write it, and Caleb tells her he knows, “do you think that A decided to get in the mix? Saw that Zack was a dirt bag and decided to move things along?” As Hanna realises the note is the reason Zack got into her car, Caleb agrees, “yep”.
Running down the street, Hanna tells Caleb that she’s really glad they’re doing this, and Caleb says he is as well before asking Hanna if she’s good. Hanna tells him she is, before asking if they’re almost done. As a car drives past them, Caleb questions if it’s Spencer, and grabbing his arm, Hanna wonders that maybe they should just go back the other way, but Caleb reminds her that “it’s a loop”. Spencer gets out of her car and asks if Caleb can give them a second, but Hanna tells Spencer no and that they’re doing a loop. As Hanna starts to run off, not interested in what Spencer has to say, Spencer yells after her, but Caleb tells Spencer to “lay off it”. When Spencer asks what’s going on, Caleb tells her that she asked him to help Hanna, “that’s what I’m doing”. Turning around, Caleb runs off, continuing on with the loop.
In the Marin’s foyer, Caleb asks Hanna how Cyrus got away if Alison identified him, and Hanna says that once the clock stuck 8:10pm, he was a free man. Hanna goes on to say that ‘A’ must have had a getaway car out back and by the time Tanner called in the ID, Cyrus was gone. Caleb says gone or not, ‘A’ could still use it against them, and Hanna tells him she knows, but Spencer has a plan. Caleb questions if it’s a good one, and Hanna tells him no, it’s awful, even for Spencer. As Caleb looks over his shoulder to Aria and Spencer in the kitchen, Hanna apologises to him for lying. Caleb tells her they can’t get control back by avoiding what’s going on, before saying that it makes her feel any better, he didn’t exactly have a kale salad for lunch. Laughing, Hanna questions him, and Caleb says he had a bacon calzone. Caleb tells Hanna to give him a call if she needs anything, and Hanna tells him that she will, before saying that she loves him and they share a goodbye kiss.
Walking into the Apple Rose Grille, Caleb kisses Hanna in greeting before giving a bro hug to Toby. Toby tells Caleb that Hanna says that he’s having trouble sleeping and questions what the deal is with that, and after looking away, Caleb questions what this is. As Toby explains that Hanna is worried about him as well as him and Spencer, Caleb wonders who died “and made you Oprah?” Toby gathers that there is something wrong, and as Caleb turns to walk out, Toby calls after him and tells him that Hanna is scared and if he walks away, she’s still going to be afraid. As Toby questions if Caleb wants things to stay like that, Caleb looks towards Hanna.
Caleb tells Toby that it’s human nature, “you go around this town tonight, you’ll find a lot of guys who need to take the edge off to get some sleep”. Toby wonders why he’d even gamble, and why not just deal with the thing that’s ruining his sleep. As Toby says that if he cures the problem, the symptoms will go away, Caleb tells Toby that with all due respect, he doesn’t know he what his problems are. Toby says that it’s not true, he’s been there, and when Caleb asks “been where?”, Toby tells him Ravenswood. Shaking his head, Caleb comments that Toby was a tourist, “I lived there”, to which Toby says that maybe he bought some of it back with him. When Caleb tells Toby not to push “this”, Toby asks him what he’s so scared of that he’d rather drink than face it. Going on, Toby asks him what he’s so scared of that he’d push Hanna away, to which Caleb tells him that’s he’s a “very serious line” right now. Toby asks if Caleb drinks during the day, and when Caleb tells him no, “I cut that out”, Toby wonders why. Caleb says that he got scared, and when Toby asks what he got scared of, Caleb hesitates. Toby tells Caleb to say it out loud, and taking a moment, Caleb says that he should have kept walking. Getting up, Caleb rushes from the Grille, brushing Hanna off when she tries to grab his arm.
Walking into the cabin, Caleb grabs his bag from behind the couch and starts to pack it with clothes when Hanna turns on the lamp and asks if he’s going somewhere. Caleb tells her that he “shouldn’t have come back here”, and that Hanna had no right to pull some stupid intervention on him. As Caleb starts to pack, Hanna tells him that he’s right about that, so she came here to apologise, but that was an hour ago and she’s changed her mind, sitting there in the dark wondering if he’s in an alley somewhere or wrapped around a tree. Caleb says that he can take care of himself, to which Hanna says that he can’t. Turning to face her, Caleb questions her, Hanna tells him that she said no, he can’t. Hanna mentions that Caleb thinks he can, and usually he can, but this time he’s wrong and he knows it. Hanna tells Caleb that she’ll fight for him, but he has to trust her, and if they don’t trust each other, she may as well help him pack.
Pacing, Caleb tells Hanna that they called it a pact, but what Ravenswood made was a contract. When Hanna questions that it was made with the preacher, Caleb says that it was with what the preacher represented, “but contracts have loopholes”. Hanna asks Caleb what he did, him and the others, and Caleb says that they took the jars down to the bridge, “where the car went in the water that first night”, and they opened them, “all of them. And released whatever was inside”. Hanna wonders what happened, and Caleb tells her nothing for a minute, “then the woods were filled with fireflies. Millions of them”. Caleb says that they drifted up into the trees and they were gone, “Mrs Grunwald called it ‘great ascendency’”. When Hanna asks what happened after that, Caleb says that there were no demons, no messages, no revenge. As Hanna mentions that there was also no Miranda, Caleb says that she was gone. Hanna tells him that he kept his promise, he took care of her, and Caleb tells her that he has spent this whole time trying to talk himself into that. Hanna says that he did help Miranda, and now he’s back with her. Caleb mentions that he’s not the same person as when he left Rosewood, and standing up, Hanna tells him he is, she knows him. Looking away, Caleb picks the planchette from the Ouija board, “you see this. It’s just a game. A toy, right? That’s a lie. This is real. People turned it into a game and they forgot what it’s really for. They forgot because they were afraid of it”. Going on, Caleb tells Hanna that there is a whole other world, just right past the corner of their eye, “and I’ve seen it”. Hanna realises that’s why Caleb can’t sleep, and Caleb tells her that he can sleep, he’s just afraid of his own dreams. When Hanna asks why, Caleb takes a moment before saying that after she died, “first time that Miranda talked to me was in a dream”, and that he’s just afraid that she’s going to show up again, “and she’s going to tell me I was all wrong, and that she’s not okay, and that it’s my fault”. Hanna tells Caleb that maybe he’s not the same person he was when he left, but she’s not exactly who she used to be either. Saying that they’ll get through this, Hanna tells him that she didn’t come this far not to have a happy ending. Putting the planchette down on the coffee table, Hanna wraps her arm around Caleb’s neck and draws him into a kiss.
Caleb is finally getting a good night's sleep on the couch as Hanna watches the fireflies out of the cabin’s screen door.
Caleb and Hanna are still sorting out the lights when Hanna gets a phone call, telling Caleb that it is her mom.
Caleb approaches Emily who is placing Jesus back in the nativity scene and comments that she and her family really go all out. Emily tells him that her dad always finds a way to come home for Christmas, so after Thanksgiving dinner, she and her mom go outside, turn on the lights, and know that it won’t be long until they see her dad. Caleb mentions that now he knows why she loves Christmas, and looking down at her shirt, Emily laughs and agrees. As Hanna walks over after being on the phone with her mom, Caleb asks her how everything is at home. Hanna tells him everything is good, Ashley just needs cranberries. Knitting his brows slightly together, Caleb tells Hanna that they were “on the list”, and that they should be in the fridge. Hanna then tells Caleb that her grandma likes the canned kind, the ones that you slice. Emily pipes in and says that she thought Hanna’s grandmother always made a salad with cranberries and marshmallows in it. Caleb notices Hanna give Emily a look, and after Paige has called out to Emily, and Emily has left, Caleb asks, “what was that?” Hanna asks what he’s talking about, and shaking his head, Caleb tells her, “Hanna, I know when you’re lying to me”.
As Spencer questions what she was desperate enough to do, Caleb walks into the Hastings’ house and finishes her sentence for her when Spencer pulls herself up short, “kill Bethany”. Hanna walks up to Caleb, telling him he was supposed to keep that secret, but Caleb tells her that Mona came to him. With a grin, Mona says that she knew Hanna would tell Caleb, so she asked for his help. When Emily asks if there are any more helpers coming, and both Aria and Spencer say that they didn’t tell their bed buddies, Hanna says that she’s sorry, and questions how anyone could lie to Caleb’s face. Caleb mentions that he unlocked two more files, before commenting that Mona’s software “slays”. When he asks if the decoding program is military grade, Mona simply tells him that he doesn’t want to know. Caleb tells the girls that the “cops were granted access to Bethany’s Radley files yesterday”, and while he can’t open that link, he did find an affidavit that “Holbrook sent to the D.A. today”. As Aria begins to read aloud the first part of the affidavit that details Alison no longer being a person of interest in Bethany’s murder, she questions that Alison’s totally let off the hook, to which Caleb says yeah, “and Spencer’s on it”. Mona asks whether Caleb said Holbrook sent the document to the DA, but before Caleb has a chance to answer, Spencer says that she knows how this works, and that they submit an affidavit so they can issue an arrest warrant. Caleb watches as the Liars rally around Spencer, telling her that they’re going to stick together, before Caleb notices Mona look despondently away.
Sitting with Hanna in her car, Caleb hacks into Radley’s security. Hanna asks if he’s in, and after a few more keystrokes, Caleb tells her, “we’re in”. After Spencer and Mona, who are dresses as nurses, walk through the back doors, Caleb and Hanna share a nervous look.
Caleb and Hanna watch as a car pulls up at the back exit doors of Radley. When they notice Holbrook get out of the driver’s side, they quickly try to make themselves discreet, with Caleb pulling the sun visor down and ducking under the dash.
Caleb is looking over some papers that fell from the sun visor, while Hanna is leaving a voicemail for Emily. After Hanna ends the call, Caleb asks her what the papers are. Hanna tries to feign innocence, but Caleb tells her to stop stalling. Hanna tells him it’s obviously a list of colleges, to which Caleb tells her right, “but this is a list of schools that only brainiacs go to”. Hanna tells him yeah so, and when Caleb gives her a lot, Hanna asks if he knows the test they make you take, the S.C.T’s. Furrowing his brows, Caleb asks if she means the S.A.T’s, and telling him she doesn’t remember which one it was, Hanna goes on to say that apparently she did kind of good on it. When Caleb asks how good is kind of good, Hanna tells him it was good enough that the guidance counsellor called her in for cheating. As Hanna focuses back on the exit doors, Caleb smirks at her proudly.
Caleb and Hanna are still sitting in the car when Aria gets in.
Standing by a police vehicle as the Vanderwaal house is taped off as a crime scene, Caleb and Hanna, along with Emily and Paige, and Aria and Ezra, stand huddled together, visibly upset and shaken. Caleb listen on as Detective Holbrook tells the waiting press that while the investigation is ongoing, they have ruled what has happened a homicide and that Mona Vanderwaal was murdered.
At the Masquerade Ice Ball, Caleb and Hanna, along with Emily and Paige, and Aria and Ezra, slow dance under the lit up gazebo, until everyone turns their attention to the top of the staircase. Walking to the edge of the gazebo, Caleb, Hanna, the other couples and Spencer watch as Alison, followed by four other girls, make their grand entrance. As Alison greets some of the guests, Spencer turns to Hanna and tells her that they should get out of here while everyone is still basking in the glow of Ali. Hanna begins to step down from the gazebo when Caleb calls out her name and kisses her when she turns back around, “be careful”.
Spotting someone, Caleb, Ezra and Paige start to follow.
Walking up to Caleb and Ezra, Paige mentions that Emily and Aria lost sight of Alison. Ezra says that he thinks he just found her, and the three watch as Alison enters the Winter Wonderland Maze.
Paige tells Caleb, Emily, Ezra and Aria that if it was Alison kissing, than it would explain a lot, and Caleb agrees, “yeah, like why Spencer’s about to go on trial for murder, while Ali’s weaving her way through a Winter Wonderland”. Caleb listens as Ezra says that if Holbrook is helping Alison, he wants to know when it started, before Emily explains to the group that CeCe showed up in New York that night, and Alison helped get her out of the country. Noticing Alison walking from the Maze, Caleb comments that it looks as though she made a friend, and they watch Alison and someone dressed in a white coat and hood walk towards the exit. As Holbrook begins to follow Alison and her friend, Caleb tells Aria and Emily to follow Ali, while he and Ezra follow Holbrook, and Paige adds that she’ll grab Lucas.
Caleb accompanies Ezra as he bails Holbrook up, wondering if they could both have a word with him for a second, while Aria and Emily slip by to keep following Alison and the person in the white coat and hood.
Caleb rings Toby and tells him that they think Ali left the party, “I tried calling Hanna, but she’s not picking up… We’re on our way”.
In the Hastings’ living room, Caleb holds an icepack to Hanna’s head as they and the other couples listens as Toby says that the letter Hanna found proves that Alison knew Bethany, and that it may create enough reasonable doubt to clear Spencer’s name. As the clock strikes midnight, Caleb rubs his hand down Hanna’s arm, and looks down to her.
Hanna tells the girls that her mom always said that Christmas was wherever they were, as long as they were together. Suddenly Caleb’s voice tells the girls that “we are… together”, and looking up, the girls find Caleb, Toby, Ezra and Paige on the Hastings’ staircase wearing Santa boxers, “Merry Christmas”.
Caleb and Hanna joke around with some Christmas decorations, as everyone else huddles around the island bench in the Hastings’ kitchen.
As Caleb sits down next to Hanna by the roaring fire, Hanna tells him that Mona should be with them tonight, and that the only reason they’re celebrating is because of her, before Caleb pulls her into a hug.
Caleb and the others sit at the table, as Ezra serves up Christmas chicken. As Ezra sits down, Aria tells them that they should all say a prayer, and they link hands with one another.
Laughing and enjoying each others company, everyone starts to serve their plates with food.
Caleb listens as Emily toasts to their family, may they always stay together, before clinking glasses with everyone. Suddenly everyone hears the sound of bells and something falling down the chimney. Getting up from the table, everyone heads outside where they find a Christmas tree all lit up in Spencer’s backyard. As they’re admiring the tree, snow starts falling and a message over Spencer’s barn lights up, “Merry Christmas, Bitches. –A”.
As Hanna serves ice cream in the Marin kitchen, Caleb questions that she stayed with Mona’s mom after the others left. Hanna tells him that they cleaned up, and Leona told her how she wished she would have done more when Mona told her about Alison. When Hanna says that they pushed Mona to help them, Caleb comments that Mona was on Alison’s radar “long before that”. Hanna says that she still feels awful, before asking if Caleb’s had any luck with Mona’s laptop. Shaking his head and picking up the laptop, Caleb says no, “I know why Mona wasn’t afraid to let me keep it. It is completely encrypted and secured unlike anything I’ve ever seen”. Caleb mentions that the only thing he knows for sure is that there are chunks of the hard drive that he is completely locked out of. Hanna says that Mona went to all that trouble so there must be something on there, and Caleb tells her that he’s not giving up, “my ego’s at stake now”. Hanna then asks Caleb what he thinks Alison did with Mona’s body, and Caleb says that Alison’s the only one with that information, “and I don’t see her making that public knowledge”. Hanna mentions that maybe there’s somebody else who knows, or somebody who could find out, and when Caleb asks who, Hanna tells him Mrs Grunwald could. Getting up from the island bench, Caleb tells her that it’s not a good idea. Hanna says that she’s a psychic, a real psychic, not some card flipper at the carnival, and she has a real gift and they both know it. Throwing his hands up in the air, Caleb tells Hanna that she can’t mess around with “that stuff”, and that Hanna should believe him. Standing up, Hanna questions who else they can ask, before stating that Mrs Grunwald saved Alison when Mrs D planted her, and that she knows all of them. When Hanna says that Mrs Grunwald seems to like them in some disturbing and creepy sort of way, Caleb tells her that it’s not like lowjack, “you cannot just call her up and ask ‘where’s the body?’ And even if she could tell you, how are you going to explain to Mrs Vanderwaal where you got the information? Or the police?” Telling Hanna that he knows how she feels about Mona’s mom, Caleb mentions that calling “the Grunwald” is not going to help anybody.
Caleb lets Aria into his new apartment where she comments that it must be nice for him to have his own place. Turning off his music, Caleb says that it’s his mom’s name on the lease, and that she’s helping him out for a while. Aria passes Caleb a cup of coffee, and tells him that she didn’t know how he took it, but there’s cream and sugar in the bag. Looking around the apartment, Aria asks Caleb what all of the computers are, and Caleb tells her that it’s decryption software. Caleb explains that it’s searching for any existing patterns that may have been used to encrypt Mona’s data. Caleb adds that if they find out the pattern, they unlock the files. As Aria says that it sounds fancy, Caleb tells her that the problem is that Mona didn’t use any known patterns, “she made them all up”. Going on, Caleb tells Aria that he’s been running decryption software for months with no luck. Aria then questions whether all the hacking stuff works on websites as well, and when Caleb asks if she’s trying out for anonymous or something, Aria tells him no, of course not. Caleb mentions that Aria’s Sudoku prowess doesn’t exactly qualify her to help out with what he’s doing, and after telling her that she knows that, Caleb questions why she’s at his apartment. Aria tells Caleb that three months ago she applied to six colleges, and she didn't get into Brown, which is fine, it was kind of a stretch, but Oberlin… After pausing, Aria comments that she nailed that interview. Caleb guesses that she wants him to break into Oberlin's database and find out why she got rejected, and Aria tells him yeah, she needs to know if it's her, or if it’s ‘A’. Nodding, Caleb stands up, and tells Aria to take a seat. Looking at Caleb and then down at the chair, Aria takes a seat, while Caleb brings his laptop in closer. After Caleb has pressed a few keys, he leans back, and Aria asks what she’s supposed to do. Caleb comments that if you “give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day”, and Aria tells him that if doesn’t want to help, before she notices Caleb giving her a look. Turning back to the computer, Aria tells Caleb to teach her.
In his apartment, Caleb answers his phone and greets Hanna, who tells him to save her. Caleb asks her what’s wrong and Hanna explains that her buddy has verbal diarrhea. Caleb tells her that he’s sorry, to which Hanna says that it was supposed to make him laugh. Hanna asks if Caleb is okay, and after umming and ahhing, Caleb tells her, “Toby was on a search of Mona’s property and found a bloody knife”. When Hanna asks what, Caleb explains that it’s from the Cavanaugh’s cabin. Hanna asks who put it there, and if it was Holbrook, before telling Caleb that she’s coming home. Caleb tells her that she’s not, “that is exactly what ‘A’ wants. For you to drop everything. Don’t”.
Caleb is zipping up his jacket when there’s a knock at his apartment door. Going over and opening it, Caleb listens as a bewildered Spencer tells him that the shelf life on secrets around here has reached an all time low. Closing the door, Caleb says that he knows, “I shouldn’t have told her”, to which Spencer says that he could have at least warned her before she was carpet bombed with angry texts from Hanna. Caleb questions why Hanna was angry, and Spencer says that it’s because she didn’t tell her. Adding that she had to beg Hanna not to tell Aria and Emily, Spencer notices a map on Caleb’s bed and asks what it is. When Caleb looks over his shoulder, Spencer comments that Caleb’s going back for the knife, and Caleb tells her that if his prints are on it… When Spencer gives him a baffled look, Caleb turns his back on her and explains that he can’t get hauled away on suspicion of murder, “again”. Spencer questions that Caleb said again, and turning back to face her, Caleb says that he’s sure Hanna has told Spencer some stuff about his past, “but there are things that I haven’t even told her”. Spencer asks what he did, and sitting down on his bed, Caleb tells her that he hacked for some dudes in Allentown, “some credit card number scam”, and when one of them turned up dead, the other one pointed the finger at him, “I was an easy to railroad. I bailed from my foster home. I was living on the streets”. When Spencer asks what happened, Caleb explains that one of the detectives saw that he was just some stupid kid who made some stupid decisions, “he got me released”. Going on, Caleb says that if he gets taken in on a charge like that, he’s not going to have somebody there to look after him, “I’m not a stupid kid anymore”. Caleb questions if Spencer is going to go tell Toby now, but Spencer tells him no, she’s coming with him.
Caleb and Spencer slowly move through the woods at the back of the Vanderwaal property. When Spencer comments that this is crazy and it would be hard enough in the day, Caleb tells her to “find it”. Spencer says that she can’t see anything, and saying Spencer’s name, Caleb tells her that they have to find it.
Still looking for the knife, Caleb is stopped when Spencer calls his name. Pointing his flashlight to where Spencer is pointing hers, Caleb walks over to a pile of leaves. Taking off his backpack, Caleb pulls out a cloth and picks up the knife, before looking over his shoulder towards Spencer.
Knocking on the Hastings’ French doors, Caleb is let in by Spencer who asks him what he’s doing at her door. As Caleb walks in, Spencer asks what happened, and Caleb tells her that he couldn’t do it. Spencer wonders what he means, and Caleb mentions that he felt as though he was being followed, “I drove to the lake and when I got there, I…”. Taking the knife from his backpack, Caleb repeats to Spencer that he just couldn’t do it. Taking a breath, Spencer takes the knife and says that she’ll do it. Telling Spencer to wait, Caleb says that as long as that knife exists, ‘A’ is going to find a way to get it back, and after taking a moment, Spencer tells him that they make it not exist.
At Rosewood High School, Caleb questions if they even know how to turn the kiln on, to which Spencer tells him that she’s looking it up. Saying that it has to be one of the switches, Caleb starts fiddling with them. As Spencer manages to open the kiln’s door, Caleb flicks another switch and when he says that he doesn’t know if he got it working, Spencer says that she doesn’t know and that they should just try it. Walking over to his backpack, Caleb grabs the knife and as he goes to place it on a trolley in the kiln.
Caleb is still inside the kiln when the kiln door closes, trapping him inside. As the lights go out, Caleb walks over to the door and tries to open it, before banging on the metal, “hey. Spencer”. The kiln begins to start up, and panicked, Caleb looks around the kiln.
Running out of air and affected by the kiln’s heat, Caleb stumbles to the ground. Caleb is looking up at the glass square in the door when Spencer looks through it and notices him inside. Telling Caleb to hang on, Spencer manages to open the kiln’s door, and getting to his feet, Caleb quickly moves into the art room. As Caleb is catching his breath, Spencer asks what happened and if he’s okay, and Caleb just nods his head in response. Spencer questions if the door shut by accident, and Caleb tells her that he doesn’t know. Spencer then asks where the knife is and if it’s still in the kiln, and when Caleb nods, Spencer turns to kiln back on.
At the storage facility, Caleb and Spencer follow the GPS locator to unit 1017. Spencer comments that she has some bolt cutters in her car, and when Caleb gives her a look, Spencer explains that she likes to be prepared. Caleb tells her that the bolt cutters won’t work on this specific lock, “it’s a shrouded lock. Hard to cut and even harder to pick”. Turning when they hear someone, Caleb listens as Spencer greets Mrs Horowitz when she calls out Spencer’s name. Mrs Horowitz tells Caleb that he looks familiar before asking whether he transferred out of her third period last semester. Caleb says he wasn’t in her class, “probably just saw me in the halls”, before excusing himself, saying he needs to go to the bathroom, “be right back”. Walking down the corridor Caleb stops at the trash bin and picks out the soda can Mrs Horowitz had just recycled. Walking back from the ‘bathroom’, Caleb asks Spencer if Mrs Horowitz is coming back after she says goodbye. Spencer tells him she doesn’t think so, before asking where Caleb went. Caleb explains that he made a shim out of Mrs Horowitz’s soda can, “and we’re going to use it to pick the lock”. Spencer questions that she thought Caleb said they couldn’t pick to lock, to which Caleb tells her he’s not talking about that lock, he’s talking about Mrs Horowitz’s lock. Walking to Mrs Horowitz’s storage unit, Caleb begins to pick it.
Climbing through the air duct between Mrs Horowitz’s storage unit and unit 1017, Caleb is on the phone with Hanna. Hanna comments that he sounds echoey, kind of like he’s in an air duct, to which Caleb tells her, “that because I’m in an air duct”. Saying that Ted’s waiting for her, Hanna tells Caleb to call her if they find anything.
Caleb helps Spencer out of the air duct, before turning the light on in storage unit 1017. Looking around the unit, Caleb and Spencer spot Mona’s laptop, and as Caleb moves towards it, Spencer tells him not to touch anything as its really neat in here, too neat. As Spencer says that everything’s bagged in clear plastic and it looks like evidence, Caleb questions if it could be Holbrook. Noticing some blood drenched clothes, Spencer wonders if they were the clothes Mona was wearing when she died, to which Caleb wonders why Holbrook is keeping them. Spencer says that maybe the more important question is if this is where Holbrook kept the knife until he planted it, and Caleb realises that Holbrook’s keeping it all to build a case against one of them. Noticing a shadow, Caleb tells Spencer to get down, “there’s someone else in here. By the shelves”. As Caleb and Spencer share a look, Spencer tells Caleb to wait here before she gets up and walks to the plastic sheeting that separates them with the other person. Whispering “don’t”, Caleb watches as Spencer pushes through the clear plastic sheets, and comments that the other person is just an empty suit. Spencer notices a barrel, and Caleb asks if Spencer she’s “thinking what I’m thinking”. When Spencer says she’s thinking Mona may be in there, Caleb walks over to the barrel and taps on it, “it sounds full”. As Caleb says that Mona wasn’t very big, Spencer says that Mona was a lot of things, but she didn’t deserve this. Spencer notices antacid tablets and denatured alcohol, and repeating the chemicals and adding water to the mixture, she looks towards Caleb who tells her that he didn’t take chemistry. Spencer tells him that it’s biology and when you mix those in the right proportions you can preserve a specimen. Caleb questions what happens if you mix them wrong, and Spencer tells him that it’s corrosive, and you turn whatever specimen you have to sludge. When Caleb says that their Mona is “either being pickled or dissolved”, Spencer questions that he really just said that. After apologising, Caleb asks if they should open the barrel, before watching as Spencer goes to open the barrel only for the unit to be plunged into darkness.
Back in his apartment, Caleb listens as Spencer asks if he’s sure he wiped down everything, to which Caleb says that the only things he touched were the light switch and the air duct covers. When Spencer questions what if they left hair, fibres or skin cells, Caleb tells her that he thinks she’s being paranoid. Spencer says that would be possible if she was being excessively or unreasonably anxious according to Merriam Webster, and there’s nothing unreasonable or excessive about wanting to keep us all out of jail. As Spencer says that she’s being meticulous, Caleb comments that she’s actually being a thesaurus, “but I appreciate your attention to detail”. Caleb tells Spencer that the security footage has been wiped, and there’s now no sign of them ever being there. Spencer says there’s also no sign of the blonde or Holbrook, before saying that they need to figure out a way to tie Holbrook into the storage space without being tied up into it themselves. Caleb suggests that they could always call Toby, “tip him off. Let the cops find out what was in that barrel”, but Spencer says opening that barrel would have been playing into Holbrook’s hands, and she really doesn’t want to risk Toby’s job. Saying that when they have proof there’s where Holbrook does Alison’s dirty work, Spencer mentions that’s when they’ll have something to turn in. Spencer then questions if Caleb could get into the storage facilities records and see whose name is on the lease, and Caleb tells her it shouldn’t take too long. As Spencer starts to again pace, Caleb tells her that he should really have gone after that knife on his own, “if it makes you feel better, Toby’s not really talking to me either”, to which Spencer mentions that he’s talking with her, there’s just not really much to say.
Knocking on Hanna’s patio doors, Caleb asks if Ashley’s home when he walks in. Hanna tells him she cried herself to sleep, and when Caleb gives her a look, Hanna explains that Ted popped the question. Caleb questions that Ashley cried, and Hanna mentions that Ashley and Ted still haven’t figured it out yet. Hanna wonders if Caleb has been with Spencer this whole time, and he didn’t even call her back, to which Caleb says he got Hanna’s message. Turning his back on Hanna, Caleb gathers his thoughts, before turning back around and telling Hanna to listen, “Spencer asked me to look into something and it took longer than I thought”. Hanna asks if it’s about the storage unit, and Caleb tells her that he found out the name on the rental agreement. Hanna asks who rented it, and whether it was Holbrook or Alison, but shaking his head, Caleb tells Hanna that the storage unit is rented in her name, “and I’m pretty sure Mona’s body is hidden inside of it”.
Knocking on Hanna’s patio doors, Caleb tells Hanna, “mission accomplished”, after they greet one another. Hanna asks if he erased the files, to which Caleb tells her that he didn’t erase them, but he did corrupt them. Caleb wonders if Hanna wants him to tell the girls, but Hanna tells him not yet, before opening the patio door fully. Walking into the house, Caleb questions what all the things on the kitchen counter are, to which Hanna just gives him a look.
Closing the patio door, Caleb tells Hanna that she can’t move everything from the storage unit alone, “you will get caught”. Hanna says that she knows and that’s why he is going to help her, but Caleb tells her no, “I’m not”. Saying that they agreed they weren’t going to touch anything, Caleb listens as Hanna says that everyone else agreed, and since she may spent the rest of her life in an orange jumpsuit, she thinks she gets the final say. When Caleb mentions that they’re never going to pull this off, Hanna says that they will, and that she found a drill bit that will break the lock on the door, and she already rented a van and a dolly. Caleb then asks what Hanna is going to do with everything inside the bin, and Hanna says that they’ll burn the clothes and personal items. Caleb questions what they’ll do with the barrel, and Hanna explains that they’ll roll it into the woods somewhere and then they’ll call the police with a burner phone. Caleb tells her that the police will trace her tyre tracks, and when Hanna says she won’t on any dirt roads, Caleb tells her that she’s not a forensic expert, “you cannot possibility know everything you need to do to avoid leaving a trace”. Caleb listens as Hanna says that Alison’s gone to a lot of trouble to pin this on her, and for all she knows, Alison could have stuck a wad of her gum on one of Mona’s shoes, and that her DNA could be anywhere in there. Going on, Hanna says that she has no choice to do this, just like Caleb didn’t when he found that knife. After Hanna says that it has to work, Caleb takes a minute before telling her that she forgot one thing, “the cameras”.
At the storage unit facility, Caleb and Hanna are at a security surveillance box. Hanna asks if Caleb doesn’t think anyone will check the cameras, to which Caleb tells her that nobody was watching the monitors when they walked by the office. Hanna questions what will happen if they do, and Caleb says that they’ll deal with it when it then, “it’s better to take that chance then have any of this recorded”. Cutting a cord, Caleb tells Hanna that they’re good to go. As Hanna starts walking down the corridor, Caleb asks where she’s going, and Hanna explains that she wants to see what they’re dealing with first. At unit 1017, Caleb takes the drill Hanna passes him, and after looking over his shoulder, he begins to drill the lock.
Caleb is drilling through the lock, and when Hanna tells him to hurry up, he comments that he’s going as fast as he can. After getting the lock open, Caleb helps Hanna pack away their equipment before he opens the door and two walk in. Hanna flicks on the light switch and the two find the unit empty except for the barrel sitting in the middle of the room, “so much for being a step ahead of Holbrook”. Hanna questions why Holbrook would leave the barrel, and throwing up his hands, Caleb says that he doesn’t know, “maybe he thought it was too heavy to carry himself”. Caleb says they need to open the barrel, and when Hanna tells him no, she can’t look, Caleb gives her a look, to which Hanna says that Mona’s body might actually be in there. As Hanna says that it’s bad enough Mona is gone, but if she went like this, Caleb looks at the barrel before looking back at Hanna, “okay. But if Mona’s body is in there, we have to get it out of here. Looking back to the barrel, Caleb tells Hanna that they need to get the dolly.
As Caleb and Hanna are walking through the corridors, Hanna asks Caleb which way the exit is. Looking around, Caleb tells her he thinks it’s around the corner, and as they continue to walk down the corridor they come face-to-face with Toby and Lieutenant Tanner.
Caleb listens as Tanner questions that he and Hanna are here to rent a storage unit, before telling her that he just wanted to see what sizes are available. When Tanner comments that Caleb is a little young to have accumulated so much stuff, Caleb tells her that he’s just moved back to town and the place he’s staying at doesn’t really have enough room for all his things. Saying that she sees, Tanner turns to Toby and asks whether he knew his friend was looking to rent a unit here, to which Toby tells her no, he didn’t. As Hanna says that she has to pee, Tanner tells her she better get going, so Caleb and Hanna continue on their way.
At his apartment, Caleb listens as Hanna tells him that Holbrook recorded their whole conversation and he knew they were going to the storage unit. Caleb realises that Holbrook set them up, and Hanna comments that he’s probably already sent that video to Tanner. Caleb mentions that if he did they wouldn’t be standing where they are, to which Hanna says that it’s only a matter of time before he does. Caleb tells her that they’ll deal with that when it happens, and sighing, Hanna tells Caleb that he told her not to touch the evidence and she didn’t listen. Saying that she pulled him into this mess, Hanna tells Caleb she’s not going to drag him down any further. Caleb asks what Hanna means, and Hanna explains that if Holbrook shows Tanner the video, she’ll just say that she forced him to go with her, and that he lied for her and it was her idea. Caleb tells Hanna that Tanner won’t see it like that, and when Hanna says that Caleb should just stay away from her for a while, Caleb stops Hanna from walking out, telling her that that’s not going to happen. Raising her voice, Hanna tells Caleb he doesn’t get it, she’s dangerous to be around right now, and that if Alison’s plan doesn’t work out then she’s going to think of something else. As Hanna says that Alison’s not going to give up, Caleb comments that they’ll then both be behind bars, “maybe not at the same facility”. Hanna tells Caleb that she’s serious, and looking at her, Caleb tells Hanna that he is as well, before he pulls her in for a hug.
Sitting down on a seat, Caleb listens as Hanna says that her mom will be at the Police Department in a couple of minutes. Caleb asks Hanna how Ashley is, and when Hanna says that she has a lot going on and she doesn’t need this, Caleb questions whether Hanna thinks Ashley is going to marry Ted. Shrugging, Hanna says that it doesn’t matter what she thinks, it matter what Ashley wants. Hanna tells Caleb that she had a bad thought, before questioning what would happen if the cops got a hold of the video of them that ‘A’ used to trap Spencer and Aria. Caleb mentions that they’ll burn that bridge when they come to it, and as Hanna looks away, Caleb says that at least it won’t happen again, “I locked out remote access to all of our computers. Nobody can tap those cameras again”. Saying that there’s nothing connecting them to the busted lock besides bad timing, Caleb reminds Hanna that they can’t arrest them for that. After Hanna says they can’t yet, Caleb and Hanna turn and look through a glass window when they hear Holbrook’s raised voice. Watching as Holbrook starts to angrily pack his desk, Caleb and Hanna stand. When they come face-to-face with Holbrook, Caleb and Hanna listens as Holbrook mutters perfect, just perfect.
Sitting on the grass in the centre of town, Caleb is doing some homework when Emily approaches. Emily questions if anyone told him it was Saturday, to which Caleb comments that he needs to work on his academic “cred”. Emily wonders if it’s because of Hanna, and shaking his head, Caleb says that Hanna keeps surprising you, “all those hidden smarts. I don’t want to get left in the dust”. Looking over to the Rosewood Police Department, Caleb comments that he should probably be focusing on criminal law, to which Emily asks if it’s going to make a difference now Holbrook’s suspended. Telling Emily “maybe”, Caleb adds that someone like that can make a lot of trouble from the sidelines. Noticing Emily look over to Talia, Caleb asks her how the new situation is going, and sitting down, Emily says it’s still very new. Asking Emily “what’s up?”, Caleb listens as she explains that Alison’s going on trial for murder and she’s trying to bring them all down with her, but all Emily keeps trying to figure out is whether a girl is flirting with her or not. Caleb mentions that “in the middle of a war you have to remember what you’re fighting for”, before asking Emily what answer she wants to hear, “flirting or non-flirting?” Emily admits that she doesn’t know what she wants, before saying that she knows what she wants, she just doesn’t know what she wants, and Caleb tells her that the scary thing is, is that it makes perfect sense to him. When Emily questions how anyone gets together with anybody, Caleb tells her that you take a calm, clear look at everything and you work it out logically in your head, “and then, you flip a coin”.
In his apartment, Caleb comments that he thought Hanna had said that Alison had cleared all the Radley material from Mona’s house. Hanna says that is what they thought, but the tape Caleb is trying to get to work was hidden. As Hanna says this tape wasn’t hidden with the others, Caleb puts the tape into a recording device, and says they should find out why. Pressing play, Caleb and Hanna listen as Bethany Young says that ‘she’s’ a bitch, an evil bitch. Going on, Bethany explains that she doesn’t mean nasty or rude, she means evil, without a soul, and you could be the nicest person in the world and ‘she’ gets them to do whatever she wants. After listening to Bethany storm out of where the recording took place, Caleb pauses the recording and asks Hanna what the hell that was. Hanna says that that was Bethany, and she’s talking about Alison, before asking Caleb for confirmation. Saying they should listen to the whole thing, Caleb rewinds the tape.
Walking through Rosewood High, Caleb stops when he notices a signup sheet for the beauty pageant. Taking the sheet, he keeps moving.
Entering the room where Hanna and Emily are practicing Hanna’s dance routine, Caleb watches them perform. As Caleb is walking over to the girls, Hanna tells him that is where he applauds, to which Caleb tells her that he’s holding two cheesesteaks, “I don’t have enough hands”. Passing Emily the cheesesteaks, Caleb listens as Hanna asks him what he thought, and Caleb tells her that it was good. Hanna questions him, before saying that good is not good enough. Emily steps in telling Hanna to relax and that they still have time to make it great. Caleb listens as Hanna says that in two hours her coach is coming over to check on her progress, and when Emily says that she’ll be here to support Hanna, Hanna questions if Emily has met her coach. Hanna adds that her coach makes you feel like the girl at fat camp who got caught eating her toothpaste, and when Caleb and Emily both just look at her, Hanna questions them, before saying that it was minty. Looking inside the paper bag Caleb had previously handed her, Emily questions if he forgot the mustard, to which Caleb says that it’s already on the cheesesteak. Hanna notices an unease to Caleb and when she asks what’s going on, Caleb mentions that somebody else signed up to be in the pageant. As Caleb is passing the signup sheet to Hanna, Emily asks who it is, and when Hanna reacts to seeing who it is, Emily again asks who it is, to which Caleb explains, “Kate Randall has this room reserved tomorrow at 7pm”. As Hanna starts to storm from the dance room, Caleb comments that she cannot go and punch Kate out, to which Hanna says that she’s going to the bathroom, to pee, and when she gets back, she and Emily are going to rehearse until it’s perfect. Listening as Hanna says that she’s not going to let Kate take this away from her, Caleb helplessly looks over to Emily once Hanna has left the room.
In the dance room, Caleb is putting their cheesesteak wrappers in the bin when he gets a phone call. Taking the call outside, Caleb listens as Ashley Marin asks how Hanna is doing, to which Caleb says that she’s going good. Ashley says that she’s not convinced, before asking if Hanna is having a hard time keeping up with Emily. Telling Ashley no, “she’s keeping up”, Caleb says that who Hanna’s competing against is the problem.
Knocking on the Marin’s patio doors, Caleb walks in and questions if Hanna’s mom is home, when Hanna opens the doors for him. Hanna tells him Ashley’s not, she’s in town meeting with a lawyer, and when she asks why, Caleb doesn’t answer. Hanna presses, asking what’s wrong, and its then that Caleb explains that he just got off the phone with Toby. Listening as Hanna questions if Toby told him what evidence the police have against her, Caleb shakes his head, “but he wanted me to know that a judge just issued a warrant for your arrest”. Listening as Hanna comments that Alison took the plea, Caleb says that he guesses so. Hanna then questions how Alison could do this to her, and Caleb suggests that Alison may have panicked. As Hanna says that she has to get out of here, Caleb questions where she’s going to go, to which Hanna tells him she doesn’t know, anywhere but here. Saying that Hanna cannot run, “they’ll find you and it’ll only make things worse”, Caleb listens as Hanna wonders how things will get worse, she’s already going to be arrested for something she didn’t do. As Hanna adds that there’s no way out, Caleb tells her yes, “yes there is”, and she can tell Tanner about ‘A’. Hanna says that she can’t do that, but Caleb tells her that’s who’s doing this to her, “not Alison”. Listening as Hanna comments that ‘A’ will retaliate, Caleb mentions that ‘A’ already has, “over and over again”. Caleb then tells Hanna that it’s time to put a stop to it, but Hanna says that this isn’t a decision she can make on her own, this affects Aria, Spencer and Emily just as much as herself. Saying that Hanna doesn’t have time to discuss this with them, Caleb listens as Hanna says that if she tells Tanner everything unravels: all of their secrets, all the lies they’ve told, their time in New York, Shana, Aria. Caleb comments that Hanna’s friends will understand, to which Hanna says that if they don’t, she’ll be screwing them just like Alison’s screwed her. Commenting that the cops are probably already on their way here, Caleb tells Hanna that he understands that doing this will change everything “for you, for us, for everybody”, but he doesn’t see what choice Hanna has.
Sitting in the car out the front of the Rosewood Police Department, Caleb gets out and starts walking across the road. When he notices that Hanna hasn’t followed suit, he goes and opens her door. As Hanna gets out, Caleb tells her that she can do this, to which Hanna questions what if Tanner doesn’t believe her. Caleb reminds her that she has all of those threats from ‘A’ on her phone, “she’s going to believe you”. Drawing Hanna into a hug, Caleb holds onto her tight. As they pull away, Caleb asks if Hanna is ready, and when Hanna tells him she is, they start walking off towards the Police Department together.
Inside the Rosewood Police Department, Caleb listens as an Officer asks Hanna what she wanted to speak with Lieutenant Tanner about. Hanna tells the Officer that someone’s framing her and Alison DiLaurentis for Mona Vanderwaal’s murder, and she can prove it. The officer looks between Caleb and Hanna, before asking Hanna what her name is. Hanna gives her name to the Officer, and he tells her to hold on, and he’ll be right back. While Hanna is on her cell phone, she questions what is happening, and passing the device to Caleb, they watch as her cell is remotely hacked, and all the ‘A’ messages are deleted. As Caleb says that the hacker is wiping Hanna’s cell clean, Hanna takes the phone back. When the Officer comes back and announces that Tanner will see Hanna, and just Hanna, both Caleb and Hanna look up, their faces shocked.
Caleb tells Aria and Emily that they have to show Tanner all of the pictures and all of the texts on their phones. Ezra then notes that if the girls do, Tanner will have no choice but to believe Hanna. Emily says that should wait for Spencer to get back in the morning, before her and Aria’s cell phones beep with an incoming text. Emily reads the text aloud, “lets all start with a clean slate. –A”, before Aria comments that all the text ‘A’ sent her are gone. Emily notes that hers are as well, and when Caleb questions that they’ve got nothing to help Hanna, Emily says that there is one thing. Caleb listens as Emily says she found a receipt at Varjak’s, and handing it Ezra, she explains that the receipt doesn’t just have his name on it, it also has his phone number. Ezra concludes that either Varjak is ‘A’, or Varjak is working for A, but nonetheless, the receipt could help Hanna.
Sitting across from Hanna at Chester County Women’s Correctional Facility, Caleb questions that all that time Alison was talking to somebody about her mother and she never told Hanna and the girls, to which Hanna says that Alison thinks it was Mona. Caleb then listens as Hanna mentions that Alison’s scared, she’s trying to be brave, but she can see something running around inside behind Alison’s eyes. Asking if there’s something running around behind her eyes, Caleb listens as Hanna tells him, snakes, spiders and flying monkeys, but they’re nothing she can’t handle. Reaching across to take Hanna’s hand, Caleb tells her that they’re going to get her out here, “I promise”, to which Hanna tells him to be careful of what he promises. As Caleb says her name, Hanna mentions that she’s starting to think this isn’t going to work out the way they’re wanting it to. Caleb tells her she can’t think like that, “we will figure this out”, but Hanna says that even if they figure it out, no one is going to believe them, she herself wouldn’t believe the story and it’s happening to her. Saying that Hanna can’t lose hope, Caleb listens as Hanna notes that the only thing she hopes for is for Caleb to stay safe, and that’s the only promise she wants him to make. Going on, Hanna tells Caleb that if things get worse she wants him to find a way out, and when Caleb questions what she means by out, Hanna tells him she wants him to get on a plane or a boat and go somewhere they can’t find him. Hanna comments that she can manage as long as Caleb is safe, to which Caleb tells her that he’s not going to do that, but Hanna tells him that that’s what she wants him to do, and he needs to promise her.
In The Brew, Caleb stands staring into space. Spencer calls out, asking if Caleb’s okay, and turning around, Caleb walks over, telling Spencer, “yeah”. As Aria’s cell phone rings, Aria tells Caleb, Spencer and Emily that it’s the Varjak number, and when Spencer tells her to answer it, Aria question why it has her number and that she never called it from her phone. Emily tells Aria to answer it quick, and when Aria says that Varjak will then know where they are, Caleb snatches the phone out of Aria’s hand, “we don’t have time for this!” Answering the call, Caleb listens, before he places Aria’s cell on loud speaker for the girls to hear music playing on the other end of the line.
In his apartment, Caleb, along with Spencer, Aria and Emily, play the recording that Aria received on her cell to Hanna. Asking if Hanna’s getting it, Caleb listens as Hanna says that she is, before Spencer comments that they don’t know what it means. Hanna tells them that she knows what it means, or she doesn’t know, but she’s heard it before. Caleb listens as Emily asks where, and Hanna tells them she’s heard it in Mona’s room. Turning off the music, Caleb tells that girls that Alison was wrong, “it was never Mona taunting her, it was A”, and when Emily questions why ‘A’ would call back and play that song, and why not let them keep thinking it was Mona, Caleb says it’s A’s way of rubbing it in their faces. Aria concludes that Mona never sent the lawyer, but it doesn’t mean she left them in the dark, and Emily mentions that Mona hid the tape Hanna found in the book. As Emily says that the police went all over Mona’s room and never found it, Hanna wonders so, to which Spencer says that maybe there’s more and maybe the answers are still in Mona’s bedroom. Caleb listens as Emily says that they’ve got to get back to Mona’s room, and Spencer tells Hanna that she spent more time in that room than any of them, so she should try to think of places Mona would have hid stuff. Aria then mentions that they need to talk to Mona’s mom, and when Emily comments that Leona wasn’t at the trial, Spencer says that it’s got to be hard to hear people talking about your dead daughter, to which Hanna exclaims that if there is something in Mona’s room that could get her out of prison, she doesn’t care how upset Leona is, they just need to find it. Caleb tells Hanna that they’ll do it, and as there’s a beeping coming over the line, Hanna says that she’s about to be cut off, and seconds later, she is. Getting up from his desk, and as the girls all take a step back, Caleb hands Aria her phone back, “sorry for grabbing it from you”. Aria says that it’s okay, but Caleb tells her it’s not, “if we start stepping on each other, none of us are going to make it out alive”. Emily then questions if they should go see Mona’s mom, and Spencer says that shouldn’t all go at once, it’s just going to scare her. Aria volunteers to do it, saying that she’s the least intimidating, and Emily volunteers to drive her. As the three girls turn to all leave, Caleb calls out to Spencer. All three girls turn, and noticing that Caleb wants to talk with her, Spencer tells the other two girls that she’ll call them later.
Sitting down on the couch, Caleb tells Spencer that he should have put Hanna in a car and taken off when they had the chance. Spencer wonders why he didn’t, and Caleb explains that Hanna would never have left her and the girls. As Caleb adds that the girls are like a band of Vikings, Spencer comments that there’s less pillaging, better hygiene. Caleb confides that Hanna told him to get out before it’s too late, and while she said it to him, Caleb thinks Hanna meant it for all of them. Listening as Spencer questions if Caleb knows how hard that would have been for Hanna to say that to him, Caleb says that the point is she said it. As Spencer questions if Caleb is thinking about it, Caleb shakes his head, “no”. Spencer then tells Caleb that when all of this is over, and they’re safe and sound, they need to talk about bottling him - essence of best boyfriend - and they’re going to make a fortune. After a beat Caleb asks if Spencer has spoken with Toby since she’s got back, to which Spencer mentions that that’s not really a good idea, under the circumstances. Nodding, Caleb tells Spencer to eat her cookie.
Watching his computer screen, Caleb tells Toby and Ezra that the traffic cam footage should be coming up. As the video footage comes up on the screen, Ezra questions that you can’t get to the overpass without passing a camera, but neither Caleb nor Toby answer him. As the traffic cam footage turns into a cartoon, Toby questions what has happened, before Caleb mentions that ‘A’ found a way to overwrite the camera. Ezra seethes that ‘A’ is mocking them with a cartoon, and when he smashes his fist into a wall, Caleb asks if Ezra is okay. Toby tells Ezra he’ll get him some ice for his hand, but Ezra exclaims that he doesn’t need ice, he needs to find Aria and they’ve got nothing. Caleb then says that if he finds the right code he may then be able to write a program that’ll pinpoint the source of the hackers signal, “that’s all we need to prove to Tanner that ‘A’ took control of the van”.
Caleb and Ezra are seated at the computers when there’s a knock on Toby’s apartment door. Toby goes to answer it, and when he does, the three guys listen as Peter and Veronica Hastings announce that they know about ‘A’.
Caleb listens as Veronica tells himself, Toby and Ezra that they need to tell the other girls parents what they know, and agreeing, Ezra explains that they were hoping to have some more answers before they do that. Peter questions why they can’t take the information they have to the police, to which Toby mentions that everything they give Tanner she twists to fit her own theory. When Veronica suggests that they take their case to the media, Peter says he could call Angela King at the Philadelphia Press, but Caleb steps in, saying that with what they know about ‘A’ that just isn’t the right move. Caleb then listens as Veronica questions what the guys do know about ‘A’, and Ezra says that everything they know is in the boxes on the table behind Veronica and Peter and there are about a dozen more in a storage unit. Looking from the boxes to Peter, Veronica wonders how they didn’t see this happening again, to which Toby says that forcing the girls to keep things from them is what ‘A’ does best. Walking over to the boxes, Peter suggests that if they look at all the information together they might find something the guys missed, but Ezra says that before Peter does that he should know that ‘A’ didn’t just pry on the girls, Peter’s secrets are in there as well. Going on, Ezra says that if Peter decides to open the boxes, he should prepare for those secrets to come out. Ezra’s cell phone beeps, and reading the text, he mentions that the police are downstairs and they want to come up. Caleb says that they’re there for him, and Peter points out that Toby is harbouring a fugitive, so he can’t be here when the police find Caleb. Grabbing his jacket, Caleb tells Ezra and Toby not to stop looking, before turning and walking from the apartment.
At Rosewood Police Department, Caleb sits alongside Peter and Veronica as he is questioned by Lieutenant Tanner. Caleb tells Tanner that if he knew where the girls were, he wouldn’t be here right now, he would be with Hanna. As Tanner says she would like to believe him, Peter cuts in, commenting that Tanner doesn’t, and she won’t so they should quit wasting time. Veronica tells Tanner that she needs to either charge their client or release him, to which Tanner tells Caleb that he might not know exactly where the girls are, but he knows more than what he’s saying. Caleb tells Tanner that she’s right, “I know a lot more than you do”, and placing a hand on Caleb’s shoulder, Peter tells him that he thinks it’s time they go, but Caleb doesn’t listen, instead telling Tanner that he hacked into the police’s computer system and found the location of where they lost the van. Tanner notes that Caleb just admitted to a federal offense, and stepping in, Veronica says she thinks Caleb meant to say that if he hacked into their system he could find the van. Peter then adds that if Caleb had further access to that system he may be able too.., and cutting in, Caleb tells Tanner that he would be able to override the hackers jamming signal and locate the van. Caleb then listens as Tanner says that they are some big ifs, before Veronica comments that she thinks the bigger ifs are what if Tanner is wrong and what if someone did take the girls. Peter mentions that because Tanner hasn’t considered it, she and her analysts are looking in all the wrong places, before Veronica questions if Tanner has asked herself how four teenagers could be this good at evading the police. Listening as Peter notes that Tanner isn’t going to find the answer investigating the girls because they’re not running from her, Caleb adds that there’s no way Hanna wouldn’t call him if she could.
Having gained access to the PD’s computer system, Caleb explains to Tanner and Toby that sometimes a hacker leaves a trail intentionally encoded to cover their tracks, “smoke and mirrors put there to distract you while they’re actually…” Pausing, and leaning in closer to the computer screen, Caleb comments, “oh wow”, and Toby asks if he found something. Tanner urges Caleb to explain, and when he doesn’t answer, Toby prods him by saying his name. Caleb then tells Toby and Tanner that the thing about coming in the backdoor is that the view is entirely different, before he reads out a set of numbers. Tanner says that they’re coordinates, and when Caleb tells her that that’s where the van is, Tanner asks if Caleb is sure, to which Caleb takes the hand Tanner has placed on his shoulder off, and reiterates, “that’s where the van is.”
At the scene where the missing van was located, Caleb and Ezra listens as Peter notes that this was the old Campbell farm, and Veronica adds that they used to bring the girls here to go apple picking.
He helps Ezra, Toby, and Alison go after the girls by means of tracking Alison while she is out in the open as bait. Even after she is forced to abandon her tracking device, Caleb and Ezra still manage to find her.
He helps Hanna remove stuff from her room while trying to help her move on from her ordeal. He and her mother each try to get her to open up but have little success. Later he lays on Hanna's mattress with her sleeping in his arms.
Caleb is seen lying on the bed in Hanna's room when she walks in. He tells her that he came as soon as he heard about Andrew's release. They hug and Hanna tells him that she is exhausted. Caleb informs her that he has Ashley's permission to stay for the night.
When Hanna wakes up at morning, Caleb is sitting on a chair at the window, watching the cops changing their shifts. Hanna tells him that nothing will happen to her while the cops are guarding her house, but Caleb informs her that there was a ten minute gap between the first squad car leaving and the second one arriving. Hanna wants Caleb to lie down and rest, but Caleb says that a lot can happen in ten minutes and he decides to inquire the cop on duty for being late. He kisses Hanna before going downstairs.
After the girls broke into the River Hill Davis Center to look for Charles' Radley files, they find Caleb waiting for them outside. As Hanna and Caleb arrive at the Marin's house, he asks her what they were doing at the storage unit. She answers that they went there to get Spencer's Radley files. He reminds her that she told him she was going to be at the Brew. Hanna states that she has been there, but they decided to go to the Data center after that. She wonders if Caleb followed them, but he declares that he put a tracker on her car, which upsets Hanna. He tries to explain that he is only trying to protect her. Although he admits that putting the tracker was extreme, but he is scared of being unable to help her, like he was during her time at the dollhouse.
Later the day Caleb is waiting for Hanna in the Marin kitchen. Hanna is annoyed by his need to protect her. She explains that even though she understands what he must feel like after she was kidnapped, but his way of treating her makes her feel like she is still trapped. Hanna asks for a little space and he leaves without saying anything.
- Caleb's character does not exist in the books.
- In the first book, Pretty Little Liars, when Aria's family first returns to Rosewood, Mike exclaims "Hey, there's Caleb's house." This is probably not the same Caleb, but it is a funny coincidence.
- It was confirmed on Twitter that Nate (Lyndon James) shot him in The Lady Killer.
- Alternate endings to The Lady Killer were filmed to avoid the actual reveal from being leaked. In one of the alternate endings, Caleb is part of the A-Team of course this wouldn't have worked because he had been shot.
- In the Season 4 Halloween special, Caleb left Rosewood for good to go to Ravenswood and help Miranda Collins find her uncle.
- In the episode Crash and Burn, Girl! Caleb teamed up with Toby to find out who A is and then try and stop A.
- Caleb and Toby also found out from a man called Nigel that it was supposedly Cece who told him not to tell anyone about her being on the plane.

- Started: The Silence of E. Lamb
- Ended:Don't Look Now
- Reason: Caleb puts a tracking device in Hanna's car, and Hanna gets mad and asks for space.
Spencer Hastings: Dating. (see "Spaleb")
- Started: The Gloves Are On
- Reason: They both admitted that they had feelings for one another.
Caleb doesn't like to let too many people get too close to him, except for Hanna, and Lucas when he still lived with him and was developing a close friendship despite the two boys being so different. We have only seen Caleb interact with a few other people: Hanna, Ms. Marin, Spencer, Aria, Lucas, Paige, Emily, and a few random students from Rosewood High. Lucas lost a good deal of the money that Caleb had saved up for years on a basketball game scheme that didn't work out. Lucas was desperate and nearly suicidal as he felt that he betrayed Caleb. Caleb has since forgiven Lucas, and Lucas has sold his comic books to make up some of the money. After Caleb works on A's cellphone, he becomes close with Spencer, Emily and Aria. He also becomes friends with Paige while working with her to bring down A. Later on he becomes friends with Ezra and Toby to help find out who A is and to help get Spencer, Emily, Aria, and Hanna out of the dollhouse.
The one exception to Caleb's loner rule is Lucas Gottesman. Lucas cares a lot for Hanna, and understands she could not be happy without Caleb. Lucas is the first to find out what Mona did to Caleb's goodbye letter and proceeds to drive to Arizona and bring Caleb back to Rosewood to make Hanna happy. He allows Caleb to crash in his room while attending Rosewood High. Caleb, in turn, becomes a loyal friend to Lucas, honoring his commitment to watch "The Goonies" with Lucas instead of hanging out further with Hanna one evening. He also helps Lucas out with his pursuing Danielle. Caleb and Hanna go on a double date with Lucas and Danielle because Lucas is feeling nervous about the date.
He has also started up a friendship/bromance with Toby Cavanaugh since they were both trying to figure out who A really is. They find out Nigel Wright was driving the plane together and Caleb even stopped Toby from breaking into a car before the cops came per Spencer's request but he could have refused so because he cared about Toby. And per Hanna (and Spencer's) request, Toby tried to help Caleb overcome his drinking problem and move on from the things that were still haunting him from Ravenswood (TV series).
Caleb: The rich girls steal, the pretty girls lie, the smart girls play dumb, and the dumb girls spend their days trying to be all of the above.
Spencer: We're not even standing that close to you.
Caleb: Really? Then how do I know that you had a cheeseburger for lunch?
Caleb: What's the matter? Gotta be the first in line to see your boy Justin Bieber's new movie?
Hanna: It's not just a movie; it's his life story.
Caleb: About what, his hair?
Caleb [to Hanna, gesturing towards his phone]: Meet my social worker.
Caleb [to Hanna]: You're queen of heels and handbags, but out here you're Dora the Explorer?
Emily [about Maya]: Who told you it was rehab?
Caleb: A nice cushy town like this, I’m guessing rehab is the new boarding school.
Caleb: Well, could somebody at least tell me why Emily smells like a bag of mulch?
Caleb: Hanna, you're talking to the guy who just kidnapped his own girlfriend.
Hanna: What are you doing here? I almost killed you!
Caleb: With a pink furry lamp, Hanna?
Caleb: For the record, I am going to help you stop A, and I'm not asking for your permission.
Caleb [to Hanna]: Come on, giddy up little doggy.
Caleb: She's probably eating popcorn and watching us play desperately seeking Mona.
Caleb: There is no right thing! It's either by the book or save our ass.
Caleb [to Emily]: In the middle of a war, you have to remember what you're fighting for.
