Alison

Alison Lauren DiLaurentis is a main character in the television series Pretty Little Liars on ABC Family. She is portrayed by Sasha Pieterse.

Isabella Rice is set to play "Little Alison" in a flashback in the upcoming episode, "How the 'A' Stole Christmas".

Biography

Alison was the 'It Girl' and Queen Bee of Rosewood's teenage social circle, who had been best friends with Hanna, Aria, Spencer, and Emily prior to her disappearance the night of September 4th, 2009. Out of the girls, she is considered pretty, manipulative, secretive, devilish and vindictive. Despite her sometimes malicious behavior toward others, she can make them feel very special, and is known by her close friends to have a sweet and caring side. The daughter Alison's parents knew, though fiercely independent and recklessly obstinate when challenged, was never the girl hated and feared by many. She never had a close relationship with her brother, Jason DiLaurentis and they often fought.

One year after her disappearance, "Alison's" body was found buried in the backyard of her old house, now inhabited by Maya St. Germain. The autopsy states that she suffered a blow to the head and subsequently suffocated to death, with dirt being found in her lungs. The item that was used to kill her was discovered to be a shovel, which was also used to bury her. A flashback is shown in "This Is A Dark Ride" of her hand coming out of the ground in her backyard, made for a gazebo. It is later revealed someone helped her out of the ground.

In "A DAngerous GAme" we learn that Alison may be alive and secretly helping the liars while disguised in a Red Coat. Though her current existence has always been somewhat ambiguous throughout the series, Hanna, Spencer and Mona insist that Alison is alive because they have seen her; however, Aria and Emily haven't. Her potential existence ultimately raises a number of questions, especially concerning the body that was discovered in the pilot episode and where Ali has been.

In "Now You See Me, Now You Don't," it is confirmed Alison is alive. Carla Grunwald revealed that she had pulled Alison from the shallow grave. She said Alison was afraid of "A" and would call her for help because she is psychic. Having a bad feeling on the night of Alison's Disappearance, she went to Alison's backyard and saw a living hand coming out of the ground. She pulled a very shaken Alison out of the ground. Because Alison had a head injury and looked confused, Mrs. Grunwald drove her to a hospital, but when she wasn't looking, Alison ran away. It is also revealed that there are indeed two Red Coats. One is CeCe Drake a member of the The A-Team, and the other is Alison, who appears to be helping the Liars. In "Grave New World", Alison is shown to be alive, and following in "A is for Answers" Ali explains what happened on the night she disappeared.

Personality

Although Alison has it all, she is easily threatened by people who intimidate her. Her jealousy and need for power often get the best of her and cause her to act cruel and selfish; likewise her fearless nature has helped her to get revenge on her enemies numerous times. Alison is vindictive and cunning, she often uses other people as tools in her manipulations - she is the snake behind an angel's face.

Nobody tells a lie better than Alison DiLaurentis. She has kept lots of information about her life from her friends, while managing to acquire all of their secrets. Alison often holds private knowledge of her friends over them to stay in control. She spun a web of lies so tangled that her friends were left to deal with the resentful "A" even after she was gone.

Physical Appearance

Alison is a very attractive young girl. She has golden blonde hair, which is mostly in curls, blue eyes, and a heart-shaped face. She is slender and graceful, and wears fashionable and feminine attire. Alison's bold personality is reflected in her confident stance.

Series

Pilot

The series begins with footage of the night Alison DiLaurentis disappeared. Alison, Aria Montgomery, Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marin and Emily Fields were having a sleepover party in Spencer's barn. Alison scared them by sneaking up on them in the barn doorway, causing them all to laugh. Aria, Hanna and Emily later wake up from their sleep and realize Spencer and Ali are both missing. Spencer then returns to tell the other girls that she looked for Ali everywhere and thinks she heard her scream.

Aria has a flashback to October 2008 when she and Alison had cruelly ditched nerdy Mona only to find her father, Byron, kissing another woman inside his car.

PLL101-00824

Blackmail

Spencer flashes back to a moment the summer before, when Melissa Hastings was dating then-boyfriend Ian Thomas. She had been standing with Alison and Hanna in her kitchen when Ian and Melissa walked in. Suddenly, Alison announced that Spencer had something to reveal, but Spencer denied it, and was annoyed by Alison's blunt betrayal. Outside, out of earshot, Ali had threatened to expose Spencer's secret in front of her sister, namely the fact that she had once kissed her sister's boyfriend Ian. Spencer had countered with a threat to expose Ali's involvement in "The Jenna Thing."

Ali Window

After the flashback, Spencer looks out the window and sees into the window of Alison's house across from hers, a wavy blonde figure moving about inside. Spencer gasps, "Alison." In Season 4 its revealed Ali is alive, meaning this may have been Alison.

Towards the end of the Pilot, "Alison's body" is found behind her house. A funeral takes place afterwards, and the girls realize Alison is not "A."

The Jenna Thing

PPL102-00534

"The Jenna Thing"

Alison reveals to the girls that she believes Toby Cavanaugh is spying on them while they were trying on clothes in Emily's room, and has been for some time. Alison immediately hatches a plan to drop a stink bomb in his garage as revenge. Emily and Aria try to back out, while Hanna and Spencer also share their reservations, but Ali is adamant that Toby must be taught a lesson. Alison then orders Spencer to pass the match and ignites the firecracker, opening the door of the garage, and tossing it inside. But the prank went terribly wrong when the garage catches on fire, and Alison sees too late that someone - Jenna Marshall - was inside. As a result, Jenna was blinded from the accident, and Alison made sure that Toby falsely took the blame for it. Alison had blackmailed him with a piece of information that Spencer could not overhear.

While Emily is sitting by herself in a restaurant, she looks down at her bracelet and flashes back to the aftermath of "The Jenna Thing," when Alison had bought the other Pretty Little Liars friendship bracelets with their names on them. Alison had given the girls the bracelets in the same restaurant in which Emily is now sitting. At the time, she had even suggestively asked Emily to tie hers for her, indicating she knew Emily's secret.

To Kill a Mocking Girl

PPL103-00410

Who can say "no"?

Hanna is being interrogated by Detective Wilden, who suspects Hanna of having tried to kill Alison out of jealousy. She assures him that nobody tried to compete with Alison, that it was pointless, and thus in turn prompts her memory of the time in her chubby days when she asked Sean out to a party. She had asked him with a nervous, quavering voice, and Alison had stepping in, pointing out that everyone was going. She made eyes at him, and he accepted, perhaps because he really found Hanna charming or perhaps because Alison had been hard to resist.

At Noel's cabin party, Spencer suddenly recalls the night of "The Jenna Thing," when the girls had to deal with the aftermath. Alison had been standing in front of the Cavanaugh house, blackmailing Toby with something to get him to take the hit for the fire in the garage. Spencer had walked over to listen, and Alison angrily pushed her back, angry that she violated her order to stay away. She follows Spencer to where the other girls are standing and tells her friends that she would have not set off the bomb in the garage if she had known someone was in there, even though it seems that she did see Toby and Jenna in there. Hanna expresses her desire to come clean to the police and explain it was an accident, but Alison rails on Hanna, basically calling her a fat loser until Aria scolds her, forcing her to apologize. But Alison makes sure she gets her way and makes the girls flee the scene, letting Toby take the fall. Spencer remembers seeing Toby as he was taken away in the cop car to the police station.

Can You Hear Me Now?

PPL104-00333
Aria watches her mother preparing dinner in the kitchen. She suddenly recalls the incident she witnessed, involving her father and Meredith kissing in his car. This time, she additionally remembers how Alison had tried to convince her to tell her mother what she saw. When Byron had tried to call Aria, Alison had warned her not to pick up, correctly suspecting that he would try to talk Aria out of revealing what she saw. Alison had warned Aria that she could risk losing both parents if she didn't tell.

There's No Place Like Homecoming

PLL106-01170
It is later revealed that Alison was threatening Toby to take responsibility for the fire, but he had told her that he will make sure she takes responsibility. In turn, she had threatened that if he tells, she would tell everyone Jenna and Toby had a sexual relationship. Spencer had come to see what was going on and Alison angrily yells at her to let her take care of it. The girls talk as the firetrucks show up, and are freaking out. Hanna begins to doubt Ali, and Alison starts to insult Hanna, basically calling her a fat loser. Aria scolds her and Alison apologizes, and that she's just freaked out.

Please, Do Talk About Me When I'm Gone

PLL108-00060

Alison DiLaurentis

Preparations for Alison's memorial sparks memories of a summer day that the girls had spent lounging by the lakeshore. Ironically, the girls had spoken about immortality and the fantasy of living in this moment forever. Alison had said that one could only attain immortality by dying young and leaving behind a beautiful corpse. Alison had also romanticized how fabulous it would be to die in a mysterious way.
PLL108-00053

Spencer recalls in a flashback who else was at the beach that day. Jenna had come to start a barbecue, wearing her now familiar shades before taking them off. Alison expresses her annoyance, and Emily comments on Toby's conspicuous absence. When Alison responds by joking about him being busy making animal sacrifices, Spencer rolls her eyes and points out how typical it was of Alison to taunt others. But, she softens when the girls all agree that this day was perfect, and then shares their dream that they would stay friends until they grow old.

After Hanna makes a comment to Aria about how she used to crush hard on Noel, she flashes back again to that day and remembers how she and Alison had spotted Noel with a girl named Prudence. Alison had torn into her too, suggesting that she was anything but chaste with Noel and provocatively suggests that she had gotten a boob job. Aria watches Noel applying sun block on the other girl enviously. As if reading her mind, Alison asks if Aria would also do something like that to get Noel's attention. She then teases Aria for falling for brainy guys, and calls Noel immature and simultaneously perfect for Aria, flustering her.

Later, Hanna remembers who else Alison had picked on that day. When Lucas Gottesman had run in front of them to pick up his toy motor boat, she made a bunch offensive comments to him. Finally, Hanna exclaims "hey" as if to stand up to Alison and stop her from teasing him, but she then recoils and sits silent as Alison makes fun of her and Lucas trudges away.

PLL108-00776

And, Emily remembers more of Alison's snide remarks that day. As she puts on Maya's gift scarf before the mirror, she recalls how Alison had commented on Noel and Prudence heading to The Kissing Rock. She matter-of-factly informed Emily that people had gone there to kiss for hundreds of years. She then looked Emily daringly in the eyes and asked her who she would like to take to The Kissing Rock. Emily just smiled shyly while staring back.

The Perfect Storm

PLL109-00553

"Have you gotten to that part?"

Emily is directed by "A" to the school library's copy of "Great Expectations," the same book Alison had been reading one day alone in the library. Emily hears Alison's laugh and sees a blonde sitting on the floor, a book on the shelf covering her face. She pulls it off and it is revealed to be Alison. A moment later, she is gone. Its revealed in Season 4 Ali is alive, meaning Alison really was in the library.

PLL109-00555

She has a flashback of that day. Emily had joined her on the floor, and Alison had stroked Emily's hair affectionately. Emily revealed her dream that Jenna could see again, and Alison said something about Emily's positive, perhaps naïve, attitude, to the effect of "that's why I love you, Emily." She then read her the passage of Pip's account of his ardent love for Estella: he loved her against reason and despite the fact that she basically played hard-to-get and gave him little hope for a future, in spite of her teasing. Quite fittingly, Emily then leaned in to kiss Alison, expressing her own love of the same nature. Alison actually smiled in return.

PLL109-00769

While reading the letter that she had written for Alison, Emily then remembers when she had been in the locker room with Alison alone. Alison was changing; she removed her towel to reveal her topless half and, before putting on her bra, made conversation about how she bought it in a French catalog, forcing Emily's already attentive eyes to stare. She had asked Emily to hook it, and after doing so, Emily had kissed her neck. Alison immediately turned on her, feigning shock, and cruelly let Emily know that their kiss meant nothing more to her than target practice for "the real thing." Abashed, Emily had turned, poised to leave, but Alison wouldn't let her escape the moment, reminding Emily that she was supposed to be giving her a ride home. Nevertheless, Emily remained, defeated and humiliated, showcasing Alison's control over her friends.

Keep Your Friends Close

Alicatchesspencer
Spencer tries to convince Melissa to reunite with Ian. Afterwards, she flashes back to the previous summer when she had been practicing her field hockey swing on the front lawn. Ian had walked by, and, under the pretense of correcting her technique, put his arms around her waist and leaned in to kiss her neck. Surprised, Spencer had turned around to face him, and this, too, ended in a series of mouth kisses. After Ian walked away, Alison called out from where she was standing a few meters away to let Spencer know that she saw her kissing her sister's boyfriend. She called it disgusting and basically called Spencer a skank to boot, implying Alison's jealousy.

Moments Later

PLL111-0726
Hanna envisions Alison donned in a candy striper outfit visiting her in her hospital room. She smiles at Hanna and asks if she misses her. Weak, Hanna tries to ask her what happened that fateful night, but all Alison will say is that the four of them combined already know the truth. Additionally, she tells Hanna that "A" annoys her, and that she should really do something about that bitch. She reveals that it is dangerous for her to have come, but she did because she had to see if Hanna was ok. When she leaves, a berry-colored lipstick stain - the same shade that Alison is wearing - is seen on the rim of a Styrofoam cup near Hanna's bed.

Salt Meets Wound

PLL112-0571
Hanna is in her wheelchair at the party Mona has thrown for her, when Noel walks in. Just the sight of Noel prompts Hanna to have a flashback about him at a different party, when Alison had manipulated a girl to dump Noel, who gave him a nasty look in return. Alison had claimed that they were all responsible, when it is obvious that the girls had been oblivious to how Alison had even managed to break them up in the first place. She claims that she did it for Aria, so she could have him instead, and that she only kills when they need food.

Later, Spencer sees a "Hilton Head" resort tag on Ian's luggage and has a flashback to Alison returning from an alleged weekend visit with her grandma in Georgia with the same tag hanging from her luggage. When Spencer tried to question Alison about the club's location being in South Carolina and her grandmother being in Georgia, Alison deflected the questions derisively, then expressed how eager she was to share her vacation stories with the other Liars. This is the day that Alison disappeared.

Know Your Frenemies

PLL113-0405

"I understand"

When Hanna is forced to eat a half dozen cupcakes by "A," she flashes back to one day when she had eaten an entire pie in her kitchen at home. Alison had walked in on her and Hanna quickly tried to clear the evidence by throwing it in the garbage; however, Alison had seen it anyway. Hanna broke down into tears, and Alison comforted her friend, hugging her and murmuring, "I understand." She then wiped away Hanna's tears and told her that she didn't have to feel that way, and she could show her how to get rid of it. Presumably, Alison had shown Hanna how to purge the calories she had just binged.

If At First You Don't Succeed, Lie, Lie Again

PLL115-1178

"You don't exist without me"

Spencer guiltily recalls how the night she disappeared, Alison had pressured Spencer to tell her sister about kissing Ian, something that would've left Ian all for Alison. Spencer refused, but Alison warned that Melissa would find out the next day, whether Spencer told her or not. Alison arrogantly claimed that Spencer and the other Liars were her puppets. Spencer furiously countered that she was sick of her games, that she would tell Melissa, but Alison was dead to her already. Alison appeared distraught, then left angrily, and after a moment's pause, Spencer marched outside after her.

The Badass Seed

PLL118-0429
The girls flashback to a college party Alison had taken them to, probably in an effort to spy on Ian. Ian had been flirting with a particular tipsy girl and had gone off with her to one of the rooms upstairs. Later, that girl took a nasty tumble down the stairs. The girls all exchanged looks after her fall, and in hindsight, they are left to question whether Ian, or Ali, had pushed that girl.

Later that evening, the Liars stood on the lawn, discussing the incident, as a stretcher passed by. When Alison showed up, she had seemed either oblivious to the girl's accident or indifferent. At the same time, the girls were afraid of being caught being underage at a drinking party, which was very likely with the police swarming about. Alison had taken charge of the situation, brazenly asking a police officer for a ride home in his cop car, claiming to be too tipsy to get behind the wheel, when in reality she didn't want to take the bus and was too young to even drive. She wisely explained, "the bolder the move, the less anyone questions it." The girls got into the car as Alison exchanged a look with Ian on the porch.

Monsters in the End

PLL121-0982
Emily makes a discovery after the Rosewood Founder's Festival. Emily reverts to the last time she saw Alison before the sleepover; she had visited Emily in her bedroom to give her a snow globe as a souvenir gift from her vacation. As she had not bought any gifts for the others, she asked Emily to keep it a secret from them. She mysteriously alluded to the fact that it was more special than one would realize at first. This flashback prompts Emily to examine the toy, and at the bottom, she finds a key with numbers printed on it. Thanks to the clue, Emily, Aria and Hanna track down the matching location and uncover a flashdrive contained in a lunch box, housed in a storage unit that Alison had rented! The flashdrive contains secret videos, mostly of the girls in private moments such as getting dressed in their bedrooms; Alison had somehow known that they were being spied on while she was alive. There is footage of Jenna on these videos as well, meaning that the Liars hadn't been the only girls to be spied on.

For Whom the Bell Tolls

PLL122-0347
The girls corner Jenna to confront her about the incriminating video they found of her and Toby. Jenna discloses that Ali had visited her in the hospital on the day that she disappeared. She played the video footage of Jenna seducing her brother, and Jenna fumingly asked Alison were she got it. Alison replied that the guy she liked to make videos, perhaps vaguely referring to Ian. She threatened Jenna that if she ever told anyone about the Liars setting the fire, she would release the damaging videos. Jenna could only sit exasperated before Ali took the computer and moved to leave. Alison then turned to warn Jenna that if she ever returned to Rosewood, she would bury her. The Liars believe Jenna's account, given how it explains her seemingly strange speech at Alison's memorial dedication.

The Goodbye Look

PLL202-0575
After Jason returns to his former home in Rosewood, Spencer drops by to give him cookies in hopes of finding out information from him. It turns out Jason wants information from her, but when she is not specific enough about whether Ian actually confessed to killing Alison, he returns inside. While still standing on the stoop, Spencer flashes back to one summer when Ali and the Pretty Little Liars' were lounging in the DiLaurentis' front yard. Jason had stormed out of the house, accusing Alison of messing with his stuff. She had retorted back sharply, mocking him and his friends for being stoners, and the other girls laughed. When Jason went back into the house, they questioned Alison whether she had stolen what he claimed she had. She admitted it gleefully. When Emily asked her whether she was worried that Jason would rip apart her room in search of his things, she mischievously replied that he would never find it, because when she wants something to stay hidden, it stays hid. Alisons says she has hiding places everywhere, including the yard. She says thats why their secrets are so safe with her. Just then, a smashing sound was heard from inside the house, though Alison seemed unfazed. Spencer snaps back to reality when Jason's porch light switches off.

My Name Is Trouble

PPL203-0425
Spencer has a flashback of a time Emily was sleeping over at her house. Alison knocks on the backdoor, and appears to be enraged. Her brother is having a noisy party, and implies his friends, or "animals", as she call them, are harassing her. Spencer tells Alison she is welcomed to stay, to which Alison replies "Thanks". She grabs an apple and goes to wash it. She looks at her reflection in the window, and looks like she is about to cry. Spencer asks if shes okay, and Ali returns to her normal self. She says she was just thinking about her grandma. She eats the apple and wrinkles her nose in disgust. "Your family has the worst apples", she says.

Blind Dates

Hanna tells Dr. Sullivan her true feelings about Alison, in hopes of letting go. Her role playing makes it seem that Alison is really there, taunting Hanna about her feelings. Hanna calls Alison the best friend she ever had, but also her worst enemy. Alison is condescending, but Hanna doesn't allow the mental torture to continue, not caring whether Alison approves of her anymore. In her head, Alison calls Hanna's friends things that Alison has given her and insinuates that Hanna can't live without her. But, mentally, Hanna lets the ghost know that she is over her, that she won't let her into her life anymore, and that she is ready to move on.

The Devil You Know

A leads the girls to the cemetery, where Alisons grave is. Suddenly, a projector plays the video of Alison and Ian at the Kissing Rock. The video plays the footage the girls already have seen before. Alison falls to the ground, her hand going limp. This time, however, Alison gets up, laughing. She kisses Ian and thanks Ian for meeting her, revealing Ian did not kill Alison.

Never Letting Go

PLL206-0330
The Liars lunch with Ali's mother Jessica, as per her request. There, she presents the girls with presents, four high-fashion dress. However, the girls are uneasy, as they remember Alison having picked them out and trying them on one afternoon. She said to Emily "Don't I look hot, Em?" as she was aware of Emily's crush on her. Emily says the feathers on the dress look really pretty. Hanna spots another dress, and says "This stretch size is to die! Can I try it on?" to which Ali rudely replies "There's not that much stretch," making fun of Hanna's weight. She then compares the dresses to her friends: Unique and belonging to her.

Surface Tension

After Toby shares news of the hockey stick discovery with Spencer, she flashes back to when Alison had asked Spencer to teach her how to play field hockey. Spencer had been happy to lend Ali her old hockey stick with the Rosewood Field Hockey team colors on it - blue and white. Aria had questioned Ali's motives at the time, knowing that Alison wasn't the biggest field hockey fan. She guessed that it was about a guy, which was probably correct. Spencer said that guys don't play field hockey, not putting it together that Alison was either interested in or already dating Ian, the field hockey coach.

PLL207-00655
Spencer then calls Aria to fill her in on the details of the find. Spencer immediately suspects Jason of having hurt Alison and trying to cover it up by burying the broken hockey stick and later trying to build a fence along property line, where the evidence is buried. Making Jason look even more incriminating is Aria's flashback of Jason the day that Spencer had been showing Ali how to hold the hockey stick. He had come looking for her on their mother's orders, unhappy to have to waste time looking for Ali. When he caught sight of the stick, he grabbed it from her and then threatened to hit her and Spencer let out a warning cry. When Jason turned around, Ali tried to whack her brother with the stick, but Jason moved quickly, and mockingly warned Ali that she wouldn't get a second chance.

I Must Confess

PLL211-01048
Spencer flashes back to the summer before Alison had disappeared. The girls had been standing in Hanna's kitchen, and Hanna's grandmother Regina had been over as well. She was talking about her two sons, Tom and Patrick, and Alison suddenly asked what it would take to cut one of them from her will. Regina was taken aback by the question, but Alison had pressed on, asking hypothetically, if one of her sons sold an expensive family heirloom to buy drugs, would that warrant dismissal from the family tree? Regina ultimately said yes. In retrospect, Spencer believes Alison to have been referring to her own family situation and thinks that Alison had gone to Georgia in order to try and get her grandmother to cut Jason out of the will.

Over My Dead Body

Pll alison

"Your with me now"

Emily is trapped in a barn by "A." Someone drags her unconscious body out, and wakes up on someone's lap in a sunny field. The person bends over, and it is Alison. She tells her its okay, and that she's with her now. She says that she misses her the most, and that Emily was always her favorite. Emily asks if she's dying, but Alison ignores the question, and says "that bitch thinks this is what you really want. To be completely free of "A." Emily tells her to say who "A" is, but Alison says no because "Two can only keep a secret, if one of them is dead." She then gives Emily a choice: to come with her, or stay here. Emily closes her eyes and Alison says "Sweet Emily." She then kisses Emily and Emily wakes up in front of the barn. The other liars find her and Emily tells them Alison is alive. Since Emily was outside of the barn, this means clearly someone dragged her out. Its revealed in Season 4, that Alison is alive, meaning this had actually happened. Alison really did drag Emily out.

The First Secret

This Special Pretty Little Tale is set the Halloween before Alison went missing. On October 28, 2008, Alison narrates a scary story. It’s about two blonde twins, who are shown on screen. After getting into a fight over a doll, one of them gets mad and stabs the other in the heart with a knife on Halloween. Camera cuts to Alison telling the story to a frightened kid that Hanna is babysitting. Hanna thinks Alison should stop, but the child is riveted. So, Alison continues on about how the murderess little girl went to the asylum—“until yesterday!” and vows to kill every kid who goes trick-or-treating. Alison then maniacally stabs the butcher's knife she is holding deep into the pumpkin they are carving on the table.

PLL213-00072

The girls walk to school debating Halloween costumes—Hanna wants to go as Britney. Alison is bossy with regards to Hanna's decision and makes a jab about Hanna's weight. Emily reveals that she is going with Ben, who wants her to dress up a cop, while she wants to go as a Native American. Meanwhile, Spencer is texting on her cell phone, getting updates about her success in the school elections for class president. She just found out that she's secured the debate team's votes. Noel drives up in a convertible with his jock friends to greet the Liars and especially Alison. Spying Aria, he says "come prepared to be scared," exciting her with the knowledge that they are invited to Noel's bash. As Noel drives away, Alison mocks the other Liars for being so excited to attend the party.

They continue walking and pass a run-down abandoned house. A figure is seen in one of the upstairs windows, and Emily calls it out, frightening the other girls. Aria comments that she gets a bad feeling from this place, feeling as if something bad had happened there. Spencer attributes the movement to typical Rosewood kid activity on Halloween, and Alison is equally nonchalant. When they walk away, someone opens the door, and a van is seen marked "Radley Sanitarium." Does this mean Alison's scary story wasn't an invention?

At the costume shop, Noel startles Alison by grabbing her from behind and covering her mouth while wearing a scary mask. Alison is ruffled, but not upset. She then spots the new girl in Rosewood buying her one costume - a "Lady G." costume. She tries to intimidate her to buy a different one, declaring that that is her own costume choice for this year. The new girl noncommittally agrees to think about changing her decision, but turns her attention away from Alison. Before walking away, Alison offers her name, to which the girl replies that she already knows it, and her own name is Jenna. They smile pleasantly, if not fakely, at each other, and Alison strolls away with her basket on her arm. She then gets an anonymous text that says "I’m watching you" from a blocked number. Unnerved, she scans the store for the perpetrator, but discovers nothing. She then turns to be surprised once more by another scary mask-clad person, only this one has on a burlap outfit, and Alison is not tolerant of the sneak-up. She barks "freak" before walking away, without knowing who the person behind the mask is.

PLL213-00239

In Spencer’s living room, Alison flirts with Melissa’s boyfriend Ian, who is holding a video camera in his hand. He films Alison talking about her grandmother in Georgia who was a sweater model. After a few more lines about her own photogenically, she turns the camera on Ian and films him talking himself up. Alison immediately sets the camera down when Melissa and Spencer descend the stairs. Ian takes it up again as Melissa praises Spencer’s speech for class president, and Spencer admits that her parents have already planned the congratulatory party.

In her bedroom that night, pajama-clad Hanna watches a scary movie beside a huge bowl of popcorn. The phone rings, just as a voice on the film says not to answer the phone. Hanna reluctantly picks up, but nobody responds. Next, the power goes off then on, making the lights flicker momentarily, and the phone rings again. Hanna picks up, and this time, it’s Alison asking if she was at the costume shop and had sent her a text. When Hanna responds in the negative, Alison doesn't bother to explain her questioning and hangs up.

The next day, Spencer is manning a booth in the school cafeteria, trying to garner votes for the class presidency. Meanwhile, Aria and Emily sit in the cafeteria together at a table near the jocks' table, where Ben is sitting. Hanna lets her friends know that Emily's boyfriend Ben has been telling people that they have had sex. Enraged, Aria is about to charge over to him, when Emily grabs her by the shirt to force her to sit back down. The girls are shocked that Emily isn't indignantly furious, but then it dawns on them that Emily might be trying to tell them something. When they suggest that Emily has indeed done the deed, she doesn't deny it. Then, Alison joins their table, and a nerdy Mona tries to do the same. Alison vends her off, leaving her to nurse her wounds at Lucas' table. Spencer then join them just as Alison hears that Ben is telling everyone they had sex; Ali seems impressed.

Later, Aria and Alison go out for frozen yogurt. While they are walking, Mona sees them and calls out to join them. Aria looks inclined to stop, but Alison propels Aria forward in attempt to lose Mona. They run until they turn a corner past some bushes, then stop in their tracks when they see Byron and Meredith making out in his car. Byron is all smiles until he spots his daughter and her crestfallen face.

PLL213-00479

Next, Alison is seen sitting on her bed, writing in a notebook. When Jason enters without knocking, she immediately shuts the notebook. Jason glances at her move before demanding $20. After she forks it over, he then tosses her a package that was on the porch for her. He stares expectantly, hoping to see what's inside, but Alison is careful not to open it until he's gone. Inside is a burlap doll with a red heart and a pin and a note that says "It’s my turn to torture you." Ali reads the typed note aloud. She then opens the radiator grill to fetch the box of her hidden belongings. She twists the head of her own porcelain doll and puts the note inside the neck. She recaps it and stores it all back where it was. Meanwhile, someone is spying on their house with binoculars and zooming in on their mailbox.

Spencer is in her living room making something on her sewing machine when Alison comes knocking. Alison informs Spencer that a friend on the election committee has let her know that Spencer may not win the election. Alison tries not to be too harsh, telling her that it will be close. Spencer is crestfallen, afraid of her parents' reactions. Alison uses the opportunity to bash Melissa for purposely trying to outshine Spencer in her parents' eyes. After all, Melissa had made some of the phone calls in inviting people to Spencer's congratulatory party. Her motive in creating the sibling rivalry is not totally clear. She toys with the needles and stabs one deep into the holder near the sewing machine as she talks. Ali offers to fix the election for her, and Spencer accepts.

PLL213-00709

The next day, Emily walks with Alison. Alison discusses the possibility of Emily going on the pill, but she confesses to Ali that the rumors aren't true, and she won't be needing contraception yet. She has made out with Ben, but they haven't gone all the way. She asks Alison not to tell anyone, and Alison is perplexed until she discovers Emily's secret later that night...

Later in the school hallways, Alison suggestively lets Spencer know that it has been taken care of. When the other Liars question her comment, she lies that she had helped Spencer with her speech. Alison changes the subject by piteously asking Aria how her mother is. Aria shoots daggers at Alison and is about to respond when Lucas Gottesman bumps into Alison, dumping his drink on her. Angry, Alison rejects Lucas' apologies, mercilessly calling him "Hermie" and publicly suggesting that he's really a hermaphrodite. When Alison walks away, Lucas growls that she will get what's coming to her, and Mona nods uncomfortably in silent agreement, having witnessed the whole exchange. Next, there is an announcement over the school loudspeaker that the election results are in, and Spencer Hastings is the winner. Smiling, but insecure, Spencer accepts people's congratulations, and Alison winks knowingly at her.

That night, kids are seen trick-or-treating in their costumes, and the girls get dressed in Spencer’s bedroom. Hanna is donning her Britney costume, Emily is dressed as a Native American, and Spencer is wearing a corset dress. True to her promise, Alison is dressed as Lady Gaga. Aria walks in and announces that she doesn’t feel like going. The girls accept Aria's decision, sans explanation, but Alison doesn't. Suddenly, someone dressed in a burlap cowl with a doll mask is seen outside the window. Spencer notices him/her, and the girls all squeal with worry. The doorbell then rings, presumably for a pizza delivery, but Spencer insists on going downstairs in company. When Alison and Aria are left alone, Alison criticizes Aria for being such a downer and not going to the party after she supposedly worked so hard to score her an invitation. Aria gives a meek defense.

The Halloween party has everyone in an actual costume—nobody in a flannel shirt pretending to be a hobo. Noel, dressed as a gynecologist, approaches to greet them, correctly characterizing Ali as Lady GaGa (or hot chick), Emily as a Native American, Hanna as cute Britney, and Aria as a witch. Only Spencer as Mary Queen of Scots he can't place. When she begins to explain, Noel goes right to Jenna, who is also dressed as a sexy Lady GaGa.

PLL213-00921

When a Lady GaGa song starts playing, Mona, dressed in a cat-suit, approaches Alison with a hello. Alison asks if she knows her, to which Mona mysteriously responds no, but Alison will. Ali then approaches Jenna. She offers to befriend her, thereby making Jenna's popularity in Rosewood a sure thing. However, Jenna turns her down and says that she likes to pick her own friends. When Jenna saunters away victoriously, Mona declares her the best Gaga, and the two introduce themselves, seeming to start a friendship.

PLL213-00941

Outside on the porch, a sulky Ali jealously calls Jenna a slut and hands Spencer the ballots of incriminating evidence. Spencer burns them in a nearby fireplace without looking inside, though Ali cryptically tells her that she would be surprised to know who your friends aren’t and suggestively glances Aria's and Hanna's way.

Then Emily is seen slow-dancing with Ben on the dance floor. Jenna is seductively dancing nearby, and Emily ogles at her moves and curves. Jenna notices this and smiles, causing Emily to smile uncertainly back. Alison turns her eyes from one to the other, approaches Emily, and alludes to her hidden sexual orientation. Emily looks frightened, and Alison lets her know that her secret is safe with her.

Some time later, Emily is sitting outside alone. Hanna joins her, wondering where Alison is. The other Liars join up, and they get a text that reads "I’m in trouble, come alone" from Ali, directing them to the scary house's address. So, they all hurry over there.

Creepy person in burlap costume is there, but they don’t see him/her, as he/she moves stealthily behind them. It’s abandoned except for torn lace curtains and antique dolls in a corresponding dollhouse. They are startled to see a lonely suit hanging in the middle of a room, giving the appearance of someone being hanged with the shadow it casts.

PLL213-01089

They find Ali in a locked room. Seemingly terrified, she recounts that someone grabbed her and brought her there threatening to kill her with a knife. Nobody can get a signal to dial 911 from their cell phones, so Ali goes out alone. Then she screams, but the door is now bolted and they can’t open it. Through the keyhole they see a big fight with her and costumed guy with a knife. Ali knees him and runs off, the Liars get out through a conveniently open window.

PLL213-01184

They go back in the house, and Ali is rocking in a chair, brandishing a knife and looking completely insane, but she says it was all a hoax. Noel was the zombie, the blood was ketchup (which she meanly offers to a tearing Hanna), and they "passed the test." Spencer is the only who can voice her betrayed feelings at Alison's dumb joke, but she unabashedly counters that she now knows that she can count on them as her friends when she needs them. They all look really annoyed and betrayed by Alison's crying wolf, but are silent.

Back at the party, there seems to be mostly college kids now. Apparently, Noel's older brother and his friends decided to join the party. Ian is there with Melissa in their Bonnie and Clyde costumes. Alison approaches Ian and flirtatiously strikes up a conversation with him. But, Melissa cuts her off by spinning Ian around and planting a kiss on his lips. Disgruntled, Ali walks back to her friends.

PLL213-01260

Noel then approaches Ali to apologize, but she tells him it was perfect—but then realizes he’s apologizing because he didn’t make it to the plot; he was stuck at the party, not because he had been too rough with her. Now Alison is taken aback. Who was it then? Suddenly, a guy in an identical costume, brushes past Alison and mutters "bitch." Alison looks offended, and the guy takes off his mask as he walks away, revealing that he is Lucas. Then, Alison gets a text: "Dying to know who I am? You’ll find out. –A." When Aria questions the text, Alison calls it "a secret." The scene then reveals several other people wearing identical masks and burlap costumes. Someone a few paces away suspensefully takes off his/her mask, but the face is not shown.

The Blond Leading the Blind

Ali Reading Threat

After the Liars find a note inside Alison's baby doll (Next time it'll be your face, not this pumpkin), they all have a flashback to Halloween 2008, a scene not included in "The First Secret." Alison and the Liars were taking a shortcut to her house and when they arrived, they found some smashed jack-o-lanterns on the porch and a note left under a knife. Aria reached out to take the knife, but Ali suddenly grabbed it. When the girls asked if the note says anything about  who caused the destruction, Ali said it was Jason's "beer buddies," then, scared, she invited the girls to sleep over.  They made excuses but Alison apologized about what happened, saying she had gone too far and the girls likely stayed over. Back in real time, the Liars discover that the note was signed by "A," meaning Alison was a victim of "A" as well.

 A Kiss Before Lying

Vivian858

"Aren't you just sick and tired of being you?"

Spencer goes at Hanna's to apologize about working with Caleb Rivers behind her back. Hanna forgives her and says that she had actually seen Ali with dark hair once before. She flashes back to a day when she was at a hair salon and heard a familiar voice talking to the stylist. The man referred to the dark-haired girl as Vivian Darkbloom. After he left, Hanna realized that "Vivian" was actually Alison. Alison asked her what she was doing there, and she said that her mom made her an appointment. Hanna told Alison she liked her new hair. Alison told her that she was pretending to be someone else because she was getting bored of always being herself and suggested Hanna should try it sometime too. Alison asked Hanna to keep it a secret, then she took off her wig, smiling. When Spencer Google's the name Vivian Darkbloom, she and Hanna find out that the name was an alter-ego of Vladimir Nobokov, the man who wrote "Lolita," which apparently Hanna had seen Alison read.

The Naked Truth

Frowned upon

When Spencer tries to understand what is it that links Jason to her family, she flashes back to a night when Alison and Spencer were in Spencer's bedroom. Alison was reading a magazine and Spencer studying for a test. They heard Spencer's parents arguing downstairs and Alison asked what it was all about. Spencer told her that her father saw Melissa and Jason making out the other night and he's upset because of that. Alison wanted to open the door to hear what going on exactly and then said that Melissa and Jason would be "a match frowned upon by the gods." Spencer didn't catch her drift until over a year later.

If These Dolls Could Talk

Alison 24 Flashback

Spencer wakes up in the middle of the night in her living room to find Alison rummaging through the bag Jason gave her. Alison asks Spencer not to scream, claiming she only needs something from the bag. Alison asks Spencer if she is mad at her for never telling her about Jason being her brother too. Alison says that by sharing a brother, it practically makes them sisters and that Spencer deserves a more decent sister. If she had told Spencer the truth about Jason, it would have changed everything, and Alison didn't want that. Alison sees a bottle of pain killers on the living room table, and asks to take a couple "for the road."

Spencer informs Alison that Aria met with Duncan and he told her that he flew Alison back from Hilton Head the day she disappeared. Alison says Duncan "talks too much," but states she is glad that the girls haven't given up. She also says that it is now helpful the girls have the bag. She gives her a hint by telling her to look at the big picture instead of scrutinizing the individual pieces. Spencer asks what is in the bag that is so important, but Ali says she can't say. She states she misses Spencer and that everything the girls are dealing with is "some seriously messed up stuff." Ali informs Spencer, "here's the good news, you're getting warmer." Suddenly, Spencer and Alison hear a noise coming from upstairs, so Spencer stuffs the bag underneath the couch and falls back asleep. In Season 4, its revealed Ali is alive, meaning Ali really did go into Spencers house.

UnmAsked

Pretty-little-liars-finale-vivian-darkbloom
Mona tells Spencer, that when she was in a clothing store, she saw Alison (who was dressed as Vivian) and that she was spying on someone. Mona, who was then a hopeless nerd, begs Ali to tell her what she is doing. Alison finally tells her she is spying on someone, and Alison asks her what it is going to take for Mona to leave and forget what happened, and Mona responds "to be popular." Alison gives Mona a phone number, written on a torn post card for the "Lost Woods Resort. It is unknown if this actually happened or not due to Mona revealing herself as "A".

It Happened 'That Night'

AliDarkbloom

Hanna visits Mona in Radley Sanitarium thinking that her visits are helping. Mona turns and smiles, and Hanna thinks she's smiling at her, but she realizes Mona is actually smiling at the chair behind her. Mona hallucinates Alison sitting there in a red coat, with her natural blonde hair color, reading "Lolita." Mona and the audience can see her, but Hanna can't. Alison's body is also stolen from her grave by "A."

Blood Is The New Black

PLL302-00615

Aria finds an earring in her locker, a "gift" from "A," and she has a flashback of a night when she and Alison snuck into Byron's office to find out if he was still cheating with Meredith. Alison finds one earring in the couch cushions and Aria freaks out. Upset and angry, she lets Alison talk her into trashing the office and letting him believe Meredith did it. Before Alison "finds" the earring, you can see it sparkling in her hand, meaning she had actually planted the earring there. Meredith also states the earring is not hers, further proving Alison planted it.

The Remains of the "A"

PLLS03E06-07

Spencer finds Alison's beloved anklet in an antique shop, reminding her of a night Alison had come over for a sleepover. Spencer notices Ali's charm anklet and Ali says it was from a friend, not a boyfriend, and that Spencer doesn't know "her." Ali had come over to watch movies with Spencer, but then ditches her to go to a party in order to get the girls fake IDs so they can get into frat parties and have a great summer. Spencer is upset, but as usual Ali gets her way. Her friend is waiting to pick her up downstairs, and we can assume that this friend was CeCe Drake, Jason's girlfriend. She and Ali apparently spent an "intense summer" together.

Crazy

Alison outside the window

Hanna has a flashback of a night Mona came over and they played Ouija. When Mona asks the Ouija board if Alison is still alive. It spells ALIVE and lightning flashes outside. Hanna spots Alison through the glass door, staring at her with dead eyes. Hanna thinks this is proof that Alison is still alive, so she calls the DiLaurentis' to tell them. 3 days later, Alison's body was found and Mr. DiLaurentis was furious at Hanna for giving his family false hope and would never forgave her. Alison is revealed to be alive in Season 4, meaning Hanna really did see Alison.

Single Fright Female

PLL 311 SingleFrightFemale episode dad9fba3-d16c-4b79-8cd8-87311b0849bf 4775943 220x124

CeCe is telling Spencer about how Paige and Alison had a rivalry, also telling Spencer that Alison's nickname for Paige was "Pigskin." This reminds Spencer of a time when Alison had a huge mark on her back and said that when she was playing soccer, she fell down and Pigskin kicked her. Spencer, Aria, and Hanna are confused, and ask who Pigskin is, and Alison just tells them she is a "freak," and that she is "psychotic."

MM-PLL-311-CLIP03 03

In the second flashback, Alison and CeCe are in a car, and Alison tells CeCe about how she wrote Paige a fake love letter from Emily (using Emily's stationary). In the letter, Ali wrote to Paige to meet her and hide her response letter underneath a sign outside a shop in town. Ali sees Paige and threatens to show the letter Paige wrote to Emily to her father, who is a deacon at the church. Paige yells at her to give it back, but Alison yells back, "I own you now!" Alison walks away, looking frightened, and yells at CeCe to drive.

This Is A Dark Ride

Ali Jenna Fight

Garrett confronts Spencer, and tells her something important about the night Alison went missing. While Ian and Melissa were still in Alison's room, Garrett took Jenna outside behind Ali's house. While they were walking, Alison confronted them, and Alison and Jenna had a cat fight. Jenna pushed Alison, and Alison pushed Jenna, knocking her down. Jenna grabbed a field hockey stick from the ground and attempted to swing, but Garrett took the stick in his own hands. Garrett pretended to kill Alison with Spencer's old hockey stick, but he hit the tree instead. He looked down at Alison, who put her hand to her lips and mouthed "shh" to Garrett.

Death fakeout

Garrett pretends to kill Alison.

Jenna, blind at the time, asked if Alison was dead, and Garrett responded "I took care of it." Back to the present, Garrett tells Spencer that when he went back to see if Ali was okay, he saw her talking to Aria's father. Alison had threatened Byron, most likely talking about his affair with Meredith. Byron told her that she said "grown-up things, yet you're still a child." Alison laughed, and said, "You know what I'm capable of." Garrett inadvertently made a noise, and Alison and Byron looked, but Garrett ran off. It is not clear if Alison or Byron had realized that it was Garrett. Later in the episode, Alison's body bag is found in the ice cooler at the train party, after Noel and Toby accidentally knock it down while in a fight. Another flashback is shown at the end of the episode. It shows Alison's backyard the night she went missing. Suddenly, Alison's hand emerges from the ground (while it was on construction for the gazebo). This confirms Alison really was buried alive.

She's Better Now

Ali & Byron

The liars find out that Harold Crane, the creepy manager of the Lost Woods Resort, is now a janitor at the school. They witness Mona and him talking, and they sneak into his office. They find Ali's diary which has an entry about Byron. The scene shows a flashback of Alison in his office. Alison threatens him about Meredith and says that the same amount works for her, meaning she was blackmailing him for money. She calls Ella right then and there, but Byron snatches the phone and squeezes her wrist tightly. Byron tells her that he can't give her the money again, and that Ella will notice it's missing. Ali says he will have time to figure it out, and that she's leaving to her grandma's this Labor Day weekend (the same weekend she went missing). She tells him that she will see him after the weekend. She tells him in a fake sweet voice "Have a nice week, Mr. Montgomery!" and he looks after her, worried.

Misery Loves Company

Aria sees Alison for the first time

Aria is sick with the flu and groggily wakes up and sees a blonde going through her closet and pulling out Ali's old doll that has the diary entries of Byron in them. She asks them what they are doing and the girl turns around, revealing to be Alison herself. She says "Taking back what's mine" and sits on Aria's bed. Aria asks her if what she wrote in her diary is true. Alison tells her she will tell her, but she might not believe her. Ali tells her it is true, and that she was desperate for the money. Aria is shocked, and asks how could she do that. Ali says she never called her mom, and she just wanted the money. Aria also asks if Byron murdered her, and Ali smiles replying "Do i look dead to you?" Ali decides to leave the doll and notes, and right before she leaves she says "You know why i picked you right?" Aria shakes her head, and Ali mysteriously winks and leaves. Aria runs and opens the door...but no one is there. Alison is revealed to be alive in Season 4, meaning this actually took place.

Threats

Ali threatens Byron

Byron tells Aria, Hanna, and Emily that he did not kill Alison, and what happened the night he and Ali talked. Byron tells her he doesn't have the money, and Ali says "Then we both know how this is gonna end," meaning she will call Ella and tell her the truth. Byron says she wouldn't do that to Aria, and that she isn't that bad of a person. Ali smiles and says "Then you clearly don't know me that well." Byron tells her again he is not going to give the money to her and starts to walk away when he sees Melissa coming out of the barn a few feet behind Ali, and she says to someone on a phone "Do I need to call 911 to get your attention?" but Ali doesn't notice. She furiously yells "You've made your bed, Mr. Montgomery!"

Toby says he wishes who he knew it was, so he could offer his services. Ali says mockingly "I bet you wish you'd kissed me when you had the chance." Her time's up. Also, Emily finds an old picture of Ali and CeCe in Cape May. CeCe reveals she was the girl Ali was writing to, but Ali never revealed the guy's identity. Dead To Me

Emily suddenly remembers something about the night Ali went missing: Emily sees herself angrily walking towards Alison's backyard holding a shovel. Alison is across from her, and turns around. Alison looks frightened and says "We shouldn't be here. This is bad, we shouldn't be doing this." Emily walks over to Alison and lifts the shovel. Alison screams and falls to the ground. Ignoring her cries, Emily hits her with the shovel. Emily later realizes she got this night and the night Ali's grave was dug up mixed up. Emily remembers that SHE was the one saying what Alison was saying, and A was in her grave trying to get her body out. Emily screams, and A covers her mouth, right before seeing a blonde female in a red coat.

Em & Ali

Also, A gives Emily a post-card of the Eiffel Tower. Emily has a flashback of when she and Alison where alone in class. Emily told Alison she was supposed to be studying, but Alison instead was spreading out post-cards of various places in France. "You and me in sweet Pari?" Ali had said, implying they go to Paris together. Ali suggests they go to the south of France, dancing in sun-flower fields, lounging around in their bikini's in the French Riviera. Emily asks how long they would be going away for. Alison looks up, smiles and says, "How about forever?" This trip never actually happened, mostly due to Alison's disappearance.

Will The Circle Be Unbroken?

AliSpencer

At church

Spencer figures out that she is staying in the same room Mona stayed in while she was in Radley. On the dresser, someone engraved "Will The Circle Be Unbroken?" signed by A, and Spencer has a flashback of when Ali and her were in church. Everyone was singing the Christian hymn "Will The Circle Be Unbroken?" and nerdy Mona was there too, and she was singing the song loudly while moving her head. Alison saw her and began laughing. After church, Spencer and Ali leave while Ali makes mean remarks of Mona to Spencer. Spencer sees Mona standing alone at the top of stairs to the church, and feels a bit of remorse. Ali takes out her diary and Spencer asks if she could see it. Ali says yes, but mockingly pulls it away, and says Spencer could read it when she's dead. Spencer says "Ew, don't be so gruesome!" to which Ali replies she's just being mysterious. Spencer says she doesn't want to read her "stupid" diary, but Ali says she does, and that she's writing them for her. Spencer asks "Them?" and Ali says, "They're beyond scandalous. Your gonna need them if your gonna carry on after I'm gone." Spencer asks, "Carry on with what?" Ali smiles but doesn't say anything, and she drags Spencer to get some muffins.

I'm Your Puppet

Ali Busted Lip

Veronica is telling Spencer that the last time she saw someone as depressed as her, it was Alison. She has a flashback of the middle of the night when Ali was having a sleepover at Spencer's house. Veronica went to get a mid-night snack when an upset Alison appears through the door. Veronica is startled and says she thought Alison was asleep in Spencer's room. Alison told her she had to go out and Veronica asks "For what?" She notices Alison has a bloody lip and asks what happened. Alison lies and says she must of scraped it on a tree branch when she was trying to get to her house. Veronica asks "Why did you have to go to your house at 3 in the morning?" to which Alison replies she can't talk about it. Veronica gets ice for Alison's mouth. Veronica asks if she had a fight with someone, and Alison tells her that if she tells her parents it's "only going to make it worse." Alison begins to cry and hugs Veronica. Alison looks like she's about to tell Veronica the truth, when she quickly returns to her own self and tells Veronica "I'm just being weird. Overly sensitive. I'm fine." Then Alison returns upstairs, with Veronica looking after her worried.

Alison in a Hallucination (Im Your Puppet)

Spencer has an encounter with Alison while she is staying in Radley Sanitarium. Upon following a map left by Mona, Spencer comes across a very calm Alison listening to the song "I'm Your Puppet" on a record player. The both of them briefly dance together as Alison remembers her first boy-girl dance in the sixth grade. However, Spencer clarifies and states that she never knew her in the sixth grade. Alison then replies by saying that the girls didn't know her when they knew her. After asking how she got a scar on her lip, Alison responds by saying that "girls fight dirtier than boys," implying that it was a female who attacked her a few weeks before being buried alive. Alison eventually leads Spencer to a toy rocking horse where she finds Mona's fake staff I.D. (labeled Ali Dee) and CeCe's authorized pass for visitation. Much like the previous visits, it is left unclear to the audience whether Alison was physically there or not, as Spencer hadn't slept in three days. When Spencer turns around, Wren is standing in Alison's place.

Red-Coat-Ali

Alison in Red Coat

Red Coat lands in the woods in a plane. Spencer attempts to follow her, but loses her trail. However, before she does, she catches a glimpse of her face and thinks it is Alison. Alison pulls Aria, Hanna, Emily, and Mona out of the fire. Hanna wakes up and sees Alison in a red coat staring at her, with a worried expression on her face. Mona runs up to them and asks if they saw "her." Emily asks who she saw, and Mona tentatively replies "Alison." Mona goes on to say Alison pulled them out, but Aria and Emily believe she is hallucinating. Hanna says she saw her too, and Spencer also comes back and says "Ali is Red Coat." On the drive back to Rosewood, Mona reveals Red Coat would sometimes wear the "Alison" Mask, meaning it could have just looked like Alison. In A is for Answers it Alison confirms she was at the fire, but only pulled Hanna out. By the time she got there, someone else pulled the other girls out.

The final scene shows a flashback the night Alison went missing. Her hand emerges from the ground. However, this time its revealed someone tried to pull her out.

She  once again says no and Alison holds her breath while staring at her mother intensely. Mrs. DiLaurentis tells her to stop , even knocking her drink over in the process. She finally gives in and says they can stay for one night only. Alison smirks and breathes out.

Alison, who appears to be in a rush, tells him to give her whatever he has. She then asks the quickest way to Route 30. He tells her and she runs out before jumping in the passenger seat of a black car. The car drives away, as Hector watches. Alison was playing the piano, when an angry Mrs. DiLaurentis enters the room. She slams the fall board down, almost chopping Alison's fingers off. A shocked Alison asks why her mother was having a hemorrhage, and Mrs. DiLaurentis says she got a call from Radley saying Alison wanted to check herself in, saying she wanted to hurt herself. Mrs. DiLaurentis hurried to Radley, but when she got there, it wasn't Alison...It was CeCe Drake. Alison looks stunned and tells her that she didn't think she would have actually done it. Mrs. DiLaurentis says to enjoy it, because this is the last stunt they will play together. She proceeds to tell her that the friendship is "toxic." Alison replies "So are a lot of things." She then starts playing the piano again nonchalantly.

Bring Down the Hoe

Em & Ali IV

Alison and Emily in "Bring Down the Hoe"

Emily sees a shade of blue nail polish on Alison's vanity and has a flashback. Alison was painting Emily's toes that same shade in her bedroom. She tells Emily that she needs to break up with Ben, because she knows he doesn't make her happy. Emily says that she doesn't want to hurt him, and Alison says she has to stop trying to please everyone but herself. She says you have to go for what you want, otherwise you just end up with "mushy squash." She says she breaks up with peoples boyfriends for them, because they don't want to. Emily says that's terrible, and Alison mentions that one of her friends asked her to do it. She then reveals that the guy pulled a gun on her. Emily asks if he goes to their school, and Alison replies "He doesn't go to our school...anymore." Emily suspects CeCe asked her to break up with her boyfriend, and that maybe the guy was Darren Wilden.

Now You See Me, Now You Don't

Alison is alive

Alison is alive!

The girls find out there are two Red Coats, one of them being CeCe. They believe the other is Alison, who appears to be helping her old friends; she saved Emily's life from the sawmill, and she led the girls to A's main lair. A female eye (probably Ali) is shown spying on them in the lair. "A" appears to be obsessed with Alison, because the lair has a bunch of huge pictures of her (including Red Coat from the fire, revealing Alison indeed save the girls that night).

Alison?

Carla Grunwald talks to the liars, and reveals she did know Alison. She said that she has a sense of knowing things, and Alison would call her saying she is in trouble and is afraid of "A." Carla said she had a horrible feeling the night Alison went missing, and a flashback is shown. Carla drove to Rosewood and went to her backyard. When she arrived there, Alison's hand was coming out of the ground, reaching for life. Carla pulled Alison out of the ground, confirming Alison is indeed alive. Alison was crying and seemed very confused. There was blood on her head, probably from when the person hit her with a shovel. She drove Alison to a hospital, and Carla ran in to get help. When she returned, Alison was gone. Carla says that Alison does not want to be found, not just yet. Carla also says they need to leave Ravenswood, because "he" is watching them, hoping that the liars will lead "him" to Alison. "He" is revealed to be Ezra Fitz, who is after Alison for unknown reasons. The liars find out Alison will be at a celebration Ravenswood is having, and must race to find her before "He" does. The girls follow her, but she disappears before they could catch her. When Ezra takes the girls back to Rosewood, The girls spot Red Coat and follows her to Spencer's barn. They watch her from behind as she slowly takes off her hood and turns around. It is Alison. She asks them if they missed her, and then tells them that it still isn't safe yet. Emily asks Alison not to leave again, and she reveals that she wants to come home, but she needs their help. Then she tells Hanna to remember what she told her in the hospital (Moments Later). A light comes up behind the liars and she motions for them to be quiet. They turn around to see Ezra. He claims that Aria left her phone is his car and hands it to her, looking behind them. Emily is sleeping with her window wide open. Alison walks through the window, waking Emily up. Alison tells Emily how much she missed her, but Emily doesn't want to hear it. Emily says that she has been here the whole time, Ali is the one who was gone. Alison tells Emily not to be mad, but Emily is upset. Emily tells Alison she destroyed her because she thought she was dead. Ali replies "But i'm not. Aren't you glad that i'm not?". Emily doesn't respond. Alison picks up her journal on Emily's bed. Alison says she thought she was being smart, writing everything down in a journal. "But they took everything, didn't they"? Alison asks. Emily asks who, but Alison doesn't know. Alison tells Emily she wants her help because she always saw the good in her. Emily says she doesn't see that anymore. Ali notices the Jenna-Thing string bracelet on her wrist, and is shocked to see she still wears it (even though Emily had actually taken it off in Season 1). Emily wakes up from her dream.

The Liars realize Ali used fake names in her journal. They read one story titled "The Cradle Robber". Hanna admits she is the Cradle Robber, and has a flashback to a time the girls were having a sleepover at Aria's. Alison had caught Hanna and Mike together, and tells her how wrong and gross it is. Hanna says "He was nice to me"!, to which Alison replies "Oh, please. He just wanted to feel your boobs. And you let him." Hanna says she isn't pretty or perfect like the rest of them. Alison says "That doesn't mean you have to settle for being a Cradle Robber". Hanna begs Alison not tell Aria, and Alison agrees not to. Alison tells Hanna she will find someone who will love her exactly for who she is. It may just take her longer than the rest of them, that's all.

Spencer is reading a story in Ali's journal, titled "The Hart and the Huntsman". Spencer visualizes the story in her head, and we see Alison on a date. We do not see who she is talking to. Spencer is playing "The Huntsman". Alison says to the man "So...what do you think about my story?". Spencer reads the mans dialogue. "You have a strong voice" The man says. Alison asks what is wrong with it. The man says her story is only going to get more distinctive as she grows up. "Grow up?" Alison curiously replies. "You know what I mean. Mature". The man says. "Oh, so you don't think I'm mature enough?" The man says that literature boils down to two things: Love and death. Alison then comments on what he ordered: Boysenberry Pie with beer. Alison says she might write a story about this very moment. She leans in and kisses the man.

Later, Spencer goes to the bar Alison and Board Shorts went to. She sees Ezra and he is eating none other than Board Shorts Ale and Boysenberry pie. Spencer has the same flashback of Alisons date, but realizes the man she was with was Ezra.

We see Alison in a phone booth. She is talking to Shana. Alisons asks Shana if she "can get it". Later, Shana asks Emily if she can get something for Ali. There is something behind the French Twins poster in Alisons bedroom that Ali needs. Emily retrieves it, and it is a lot of money. Shana asks Emily to meet her later so Emily can give the money to Shana. Shana never shows, because "A" attacks Shana and she wakes up in her car. Ali calls Shana and asks if she got the money. Shana looks and sees the Rosewood Sign that reads "You are now leaving Rosewood. Please come back again". However, "A" crossed out "please" with red paint and wrote "Don't". Shana gasps and hangs up before taking off. Alison tried to look through her wallet for some money, only having a couple of dollars. She stares at a picture of herself with the other liars. Alison gets on a bus, and cries.

Shadow Play

Ali (Shadow Play)

Thanks to Spencer's drug use, she has a dream that transports her and everyone to a black-and-white noir film world. In this dream, Spencer, dressed in her black and white attire, turns around and sees Alison. Alison is staring a painting of herself that is unusually hanging on Spencers wall. Ali is wearing the same dress and pose as the painting has. Spencer gets mad at Ali and demands when she will get answers. Alison laughs in her face about how pathetic Spencer's drug use is. Alison says to Spencer "Maybe you're the one I should be afraid of". Alison vanishes.

Later, the girls find Ali working at a nightclub. Ali is being her bitchy self. Alison says Spencer is bossy, and claims Spencer tried to kill her once. Spencer says "lets see how long you last out here without us". Spencer claims Alison is setting them up for something. Ali asks Aria if Spencer told her. Aria looks confused, when a gunshot is heard. They all run and hear Ezra's voice. However, its actually Toby who says he hit Ezra with his car. Ali is gone.

Spencer steals papers from Ezra's apartment. She reads one that says CeCe witnessed a fight between Spencer and Ali the night Ali went missing. Spencer has a flashback, which is continuing the flashback from If At First You Don't Succeed, Lie, Lie Again. After their argument inside Spencers house, Ali storms out. Spencer follows, angrily yelling at Ali to stop. Alison says that they are over. Spencer grabs a shovel and Ali yells "You are way out of your league, Spencer"! Spencer lifts the shovel, and says "Am I? You sure about that?". Alison looks a bit scared and says "Why don't you put that thing down before you hurt yourself". Spencer doesn't remember what happened next, but the paper says Mrs. DiLaurentis also witnessed the fight and paid CeCe not to tell. Spencer fears she could have been the one who tried to kill Alison.

They are talking about "A". Ali, who appears to be scared, says the notes are anonymous and Mrs. DiLaurentis tells Ali she thinks its Spencer. Veronica has a flashback of a time when Spencer was using drugs for the first time. Spencer and Melissa had gotten into a huge argument and trashed each others things. Alison walks up to Veronica who is outside cleaning up the huge mess. She is visibly upset. Alison asks to help, but Vernoica tells her to leave. Veronica says she doesn't understand whats happening to her family. Alison says she wishes she knew too. Alison turns to leave, when she sees a sick-looking Spencer staring at her.

Emily and Hanna sneak into Alison's room and manage to log into an email she was using. They message Ali, and Alison calls them, asking how they found her. She tells them to meet her, giving an address. The liars go to that address, and try to find Ali. They turn around, and are shocked at the person who is actually there.

A is for Answers

IMG 6118

The person that shows up is Noel Kahn. Apparently, he's been helping Alison. The girls ponder whether hes telling the truth or it's a trap, when Alison herself appears. She sits down with them and tells them everything that happened the night she went missing.. She starts off with the morning. Alison had went to Hilton Head with Ian Thomas in order to get away from A. While in her hotel room, she eavesdrops on a conversation between Ian and...Melissa. Melissa is angry because she knows Alison's with him. Ian reassures her that Ali means nothing to her, and they kiss. A bit angered, Ali sees his computer and finds his videos. She makes a copy of them, not before seeing the Jenna and Toby video. After that, Ali went to Jenna's hospital and we see the flashback from For Whom the Bell Tolls. After Alison threatens Jenna, she got a text: "Bitch can't see you, but I do. Tonight's the night I kill you. -A". Alison crosses Jenna off her suspect list.

Back to the present, Alison tells the girls that "A" made it clear that she could kill Ali if she wanted to. After Alison's confrontation with Jenna, Alison returns home. She sees a gift from her mother, and it is the infamous yellow blouse. Alison puts it on, and turns around to the mirror. Written with jungle red lipstick is a message from "A": "I'm everywhere. And soon, you'll be nowhere. -A".

Although Ali doesn't mention it, after this is probably when she meets Emily in the flashback from Monsters in the End.

Ali is at home, and is about to to go the sleepover, when her mother tells her she cannot go. Alison complains that summers almost ending, and that she said it was okay months ago. Her mom says she knows things about Spencer's family that Ali doesn't. Mrs. DiLaurentis returns to her urgent phone call. Alison sneaks some of her moms pills, and walks out the door when shes not looking.

Next, we see the scene from the Pilot. Alison scares the girls and looks at her phone. It's revealed she got a call from Toby Cavanaugh. Alison had actually drugged the girls with her moms pills by putting it in the alcohol. She did this to see whether one of them was "A" or not. After the girls go to sleep, Alison is awake and she is staring at Arias pig puppet Pigtunia. She puts it down and opens the barn doors. She smirks and says "What do you want, Toby?".

In the present day, Alison leads the girls to a coffee shop she looks after for the owner. Emily tells Ali that Toby wanted her to know that he did her a favor. Ali says Toby said that night he was "free at last". Toby said that his time in juvie got him away from Jenna, and that he was actually grateful to her. That was the last time Ali saw him.

Next, we see what happens after she talks to Toby. Alison is wearing his sweater. She is texting Ian about their meeting, when a car pulls up. Toby had said that he saw Alison get into the car with some guy. This guy is revealed to be Ezra Fitz. She gets into the car and says "Did we have a date that I forgot"? Ezra is furious because Alison had lied about her age. Alison attempts to leave, but Ezra won't let her go. Back to the present, Alison is talking to Noel and he gives her cash and a ticket to the airport. The liars are discussing how they can't let Ali leave again. Alison returns to the girls, and Aria asks Ali if Ezra was telling the truth. Alison flashes back to the day she met Ezra. Alison had been at a party with CeCe Drake. CeCe was making out with some guy, and Alison was alone looking bored. She sees Ezra and sits next to him. She searches up the book hes reading on her phone to make conversation. They talk, and both laugh when Ali reveals she doesn't know anything about the book. Ezra calls her a "fabulist", which a teller of tales. Alison says that sometimes lies are more interesting than the truth. Back to the present, Ali says that Ezra wanted to write a book about her. Alison apologizes to Aria. Aria asks for what, and Alison replies "Everything."

We see the rest of the conversation between Ezra and Ali that night. Ezra is mad because Ali said she was 21. Alison's Jenna Thing bracelet falls off, and she puts it on the other wrist. Ezra's freaked out because he actually likes Alison. Alison kisses him on the cheek. Alison says "See you around", and Ezra replies "No, you won't." She understands this is goodbye. Alison tells Ezra that when he publishes his book, he better spell her name right. Ezra drives away.

Alison then went to the Kissing Rock to meet Ian. After their little video, Alison thanks Ian for meeting him. Alison says she is just killing time, while shes waiting for someone better to come alone. Ali says he and Melissa deserve each other because shes a bitch. Ian starts to get mad, and Alison reveals that she knows about his videos. Ian says Alison isn't going to blackmail him into staying with her. Alison laughs and says that someone is threatening her, and if its him or Melissa, it stops tonight. Ian says that the videos will bring everyone down, including her own family. Alison warns him to leave her alone, and Ian takes off.

Back to the present, Alison tells Aria that Ezra is still looking for her. He thinks if he saves her, he'll win Aria back. Aria asks if she even wants to be saved. Alison says she knows how she treated people, but that she deserves a second chance. Spencer asks what happened after Ian left.

Alison had returned back to he barn. She expects the girls to be asleep, and they are. Except for...Spencer. Spencer says "I've been waiting for you". Alison and Spencer have their fight in the house. Ali leaves, and we see the flashback from She's Come Undone. Spencer attempts to attack Ali with the shovel, but collapses. Her drugs falls out of her pocket. Alison promises she wont say anything, as long as she stops taking the pills. She sends Spencer back to the barn to sleep.

Although Alison doesn't mention it, after this is when she has her confrontation with Garrett Reynolds and Jenna.

After that is when Ali has her talk with Byron Montgomery, and we see the flashback from Misery Loves Company. Alison didn't think he was "A", but she wanted him to know she had the tapes.

Alison goes back to the barn, and waits for another text from "A". She doesn't get one, so she goes home, thinking she's won because she silenced "A". She sees her disapproving mother from the window. Suddenly, her mothers face turns into horror. Alison is hit behind the head with a rock. Ali falls to the ground.

Back to the present, the girls realize since Spencer was asleep, she didn't hurt Ali or kill the other girl. Alison returns to her story. She wakes up in a shallow grave, and sees her mother burying her. Her mother thought she was dead, and was covering for someone.

Back to the present, Alison is in tears and the girls let her know they are here for her.

Alison confirms that Carla Grunwald pulled her from the ground. Alison ran from her because she was scared. Alison is walking aimlessly, when a car pulls up. It is loser Mona Vanderwaal. She takes Alison to the Lost Woods Resort, and cleans her wounds. She convinces Alison to fake her death, so "A" will leave her alone. While Alison sleeps, we Mona next door in her "A" lair. She was the original, and Alison' "A"!. However, she was not the one who hit Ali with the rock.

The next morning, Alison dresses up as Vivian. She thanks Mona, and gives her tips on how not to be a loser. Alison drives away, as Mona has an eerie smile on her face.

Back to the present, Ali says Mona played her like a fool. She got exactly what she wanted: Ali gone. Spencer says she doesn't think their gonna figure this out tonight, and Ali shouldn't leave. Alison then reveals that she was the one who pushed Ian off the bell tower. However, he was still alive. Someone else killed him. Alison also says she was there the night of the fire at Thornhill Lodge. Ali pulled Hanna out, but by the time she got there someone else pulled the other girls out, but left Hanna to burn.

"A" appears! The girls run to the rooftop, realizing they are in Manhattan. Ezra appears and begins to fight "A", claiming he knows who it is. Hanna grabs "A"a gun and they all yell for shim to take off the mask. "A" reaches for the mask, but jumps off the ledge. "A" pulls themselves to safety and runs away. The girls see in horror that Ezra has been shot, his fate left unknown.

EscApe From New York

Alison-5x01
Afraid of being seen in the public eye, Alison watches Ezra being loaded into an ambulance from a balcony above. With height giving her an advantage, Alison notices 'A' lying flat on the top of the ambulance as it drives away.

Outside of a convenience store, Emily gives Alison a can of deodorant, telling her it was the strongest they had. When Emily asks her if she’s sure she wants to do this, Alison tells her that “Ezra just saved my life. And he probably saved yours too”. Alison tells Emily, Spencer and Aria that her mom isn’t ‘A’, but Ezra knows who is. Alison tells Spencer that there is no art to this war, and Spencer is surprised that Alison has read Sun Tzu. Alison and Aria start walking away and Emily tells them they’ll give them 10 minutes before making the call.

Exiting the Subway, Aria says she doesn’t understand how Ezra found them, and Alison tells her that she thinks Ezra was following ‘A’. Alison reminds Aria as to why Ezra is still looking for her, “because he wants to win you back. Does he have a chance?” Aria tells Alison she can’t think about that right now, she doesn’t even know if he’s alive.

Alison and Aria rush into the hospital and up to a nurse’s station where Aria asks for information on Ezra. Alison’s name is paged to the emergency room, and Aria tells Alison that she better get going.

Alison leads ‘A’ out of the hospital and on the streets of New York, eventually running into a playground and hiding behind some equipment. As some of the equipment starts to move, Alison finds a new hiding place, before ‘A’ comes up behind her asking if she wants to play. With ‘A’ tells her it’s over, Alison tells he/she that it’s not, and Spencer, Hanna and Emily step out from various places around the playground. Getting A’s attention back, Alison sprays the deodorant Emily brought in his/her eyes. It isn’t long before the four girls are surrounded by multiple people claiming they are A. As the police drive past and break the flash mob up, Alison tells the other girls A was one step ahead of them.

On the phone to Aria, Alison asks if Ezra is out of surgery, and Aria starts to tell them what she overheard a nurse telling Ezra’s mom on the phone, but she trails off. Emily tells Alison that with Ezra unavailable, she’s the next. Alison tells them she knows a place where they can go and wait.

Alison takes Spencer, Hanna and Emily to a Theater, and Hanna makes a comment about how this would impress anyone. Alison tells them that Ezra didn’t bring her here to impress her, “this was kind of his special place”. In a flashback, Alison and Ezra are in the Theater, and standing on stage, Alison says she gets it, “imagine being up here. With all those people out there who love you”. Alison tells Ezra that she could be an actress, and Ezra tells her she already is. Ezra tells Alison that she really is his Holly Golightly. After Bill the cleaner calls Ezra, Mr. Fitzgerald, Alison turns to him, “Mr. Fitzgerald?” In the present, Alison tells the girls that it was then she realised Ezra was "a rich boy pretending to be a poor boy". Alison liked Ezra more for that, not because he didn’t want the money, but because he totally had her fooled, “I actually thought that was an asset back then”. When Hanna asks if they’ll be right here until morning, Alison tells her she’s stayed over a few times and they open until noon. After Spencer’s stomach rumbles loudly, Alison takes them up to a concession stand so they can get some food. As Spencer, Emily and Hanna start talking about a TV show, Alison excuses herself to go and make some phone calls.

While Alison is sleeping, a gloved hand comes up and covers her mouth, causing Alison to jolt awake. In a dressing room, Alison asks CeCe how she found her and CeCe tells her they don’t just look alike, they think alike too. Alison tells her she took a big risk coming to New York, but CeCe tells her she didn’t have a choice, and she needs Alison’s help.

At a diner with Noel, Alison gives CeCe her passport and plane ticket. When CeCe asks if she’s having second thoughts, Alison tells her no, “I just realised this might be the last time I see you”. CeCe tells her not be so dramatic, they always find their way back to each other. Alison tells CeCe she better go going, and the girls embrace.

Emily is awake when Alison gets back to the Theater and asks her where she has been. Alison begs Emily not to wake up the others and tells her that “there are some things you don’t need to know about me”. Emily tells her that it’s not a good enough answer, so Alison grabs her hand leads her away from the stage.

In the dressing room, Alison tells Emily that Ezra was paying CeCe for information and that’s why CeCe was in Ravenswood. Alison goes on to say CeCe was never really Red Coat, Alison had just asked her to wear it, hoping that she’d distract A long enough so Alison could turn off the saw, “A put you in that box, Em. Not CeCe”. Emily asks why this has to be a secret and Alison says that CeCe killed a cop and part of why she did that was for Alison, “if she gets busted boarding that plane, my face is on the passport. That makes me an accessory. And now you know about it, that makes you one to”. Alison goes on to say that Emily and the girls have done so much for her, they don’t need to go out on a limb for CeCe. Hanna and Spencer rush into the dressing room where Hanna explains that Aria is trying to call but they can’t hear her. Alison tells Hanna to tell Aria to call the house line.

Alison is on the phone to Aria when Aria’s call fails. As the phone rings again, Alison answers thinking that it’s Aria on the other end of the line, only to be surprised when she hears a voice she doesn’t recognise.

As the house phone rings, Alison and the girls stand there watching. Emily asks if Alison recognised the voice, and Alison tells her no. Spencer says they can’t wait for Ezra to tell them who A is, so they need to get Alison to the airport. Alison tells them that she doesn’t have the passport or ticket anymore, “I gave away my get out of town free card to someone who needed it more than I did”. Hanna and Spencer don’t understand why Alison would do such a thing, but Emily says they can argue in the cab, they just need to grab their stuff and go. As the girls run out onto the stage, the lights in the Theater go out and Shana walks onto the stage with a gun. Shana tells them they she thought she had them all locked in the lodge, but Alison was late to the party. Alison tells Shana she trusted her and doesn’t understand why she would turn on her. Shana tells Alison and the girls that what she is doing is justice, and when Spencer asks for who, Alison realises who, “for Jenna. You fell in love with her”. Alison tells her that Jenna doesn’t love her, “she’s playing you. That’s what she does”. After Aria knocks Shana of the stage, killing her, Hanna embraces an upset Alison.

Whirly Girlie

Arriving back in Rosewood, Alison hesitates as she gets off the bus, but Emily manages to convince her to take the final few steps. Alison tells them that perhaps she should go home first, talk to her mom. As the other Liars agree Alison needs to tell the Police everything, Alison tells them she can’t. Giving in, Alison looks over her shoulder to the Rosewood Police Department sign before agreeing and leading them across the road.

Entering the Police Department, Alison and the other girls are greeted by a detective and Alison asks him if he’s Detective Holbrook, he says he is, and when Alison begins to explain who is she is, he cuts her off, "I know who you are. I'm glad you're with your friends. Welcome home”. Toying with her bag, Alison quickly zips it shut, and tells Holbrook that she didn’t disappear, she was kidnapped and held hostage for two years.

In a conference room, Alison is holding a photo of the five Liars the night of the Halloween party in Ravenswood. She tells Holbrook that it was the night she escaped her captor. She jumped out of his car, blindfolded and ran into the woods. Alison tells Holbrook the four girls hid her in the woods, in a shed that they all used to hang out in. Before Holbrook can press any further questions, Mr DiLaurentis arrives, reuniting Alison with her father.

Alison notices Emily and Spencer checking out Jason’s car in her front yard and throws down a roll of toilet paper with a cell phone inside. Picking it up, Emily pulls out the cell phone and finds a text message, "the truth will bury you in a New York minute." When Emily looks up to the window, she asks Alison who sent it. Drawing a question mark on the window, Alison walks away.

Inside her bedroom, Alison is looking through her closest and room when Kenneth stops by her door. Kenneth tells her she can sleep downstairs if she prefers, but Alison tells him she’s been dreaming of this moment, sleeping in her own bed. Ali asks him if he’s heard from Jessica, he hasn't and he's starting to worry. As he’s leaving her room, Kenneth tells Alison that he and her mother are getting a divorce, something she already knows, “I know. Emily told me”.

Lying awake in her bed, Alison hears a noise and sits up on high alert. Lying back down she closes her eyes, trying to sleep, when Jason pushes open her bedroom door. He watches as she pretends to sleep, Alison well aware that he is standing at her door looking in.

The next morning Jason is out on the front porch when Alison comes outside. He tells her to go back in, that there are ten cars at the end of their street. Alison tells him she’s not twerking through town, she just wants to sit on her porch. Alison then asks why he hasn’t asked her many question, and Jason tells her that he figured she might need her space. Alison asks him what their mother’s reaction was to her being alive, Jason tells her Jessica was stunned. As a car pulls up outside of their house, Jason tells Alison to get inside. Ignoring him, Alison gets up and walks over to the lady from the county animal shelter and Pepe, the dog Jessica was planning on adopting prior to her disappearance. Alison is quite taken by Pepe and against Jason’s wishes, decides to keep him.

In Alison's bedroom, Emily tells Ali about her and Spencer's findings in regards to Jason. Alison then tells Emily that Jason was watching her sleep the night before. Emily tells Alison that she can’t sleep in her bedroom again and she has to stay the night at Spencer’s, only for Alison to tell her that her dad won’t let her, “he won't even let me walk to the freakin' mailbox"! She then asks Spencer where she sits in the whole Jason situation, and if she should be afraid of, “our big brother”. Spencer tells her what she really thinks, and Alison comes to the conclusion that Spencer really has thought about it all. Still not wanting Alison sleeping in her house, Emily tells her that her mom is coming home tomorrow and she should stay at her place. When Alison tells her that her dad won’t let her out for sleepovers, Emily asks what she’s going to do. Alison tells her she has a “few ideas”, and when Spencer tells her to clue them in next time, Alison reminds her that she changed her story to protect Aria, “she kind of killed someone, remember?”

Alison, having snuck out of the house, is at the Mausoleum saying goodbye to the girl who was buried in her grave, when Mona comes up behind her. Alison tells Mona that she can't be the person in hiding any more. She also tells her she knew Mona hated her, wanted her to go straight to hell, but they understand each other and Alison needs Mona as a friend. Mona then tells Alison that she was the one who sent the text message. She doesn't need to be someone she isn't anymore, she does not have to hide, Alison does and she’s going to wish she stayed dead.

As Jessica's body is lifted from the shallow grave and zipped into a body bag, a hooded Alison silently weeps by herself.

Surfing the Aftershocks

Alison is lying numbly on her bed in the days following the discovery of Jessica’s body. She ignores everything and everyone around her until the day of the funeral. Hanna offers Alison help in getting dressed; Alison declines and asks Hanna to wait downstairs. When Alison comes downstairs from her room, Kenneth asks why she is wearing that particular dress, and tells her to go back upstairs and change, put on something else. Alison doesn't understand why her father got so angry, she just wanted to wear something of Jessica's so she could feel close to her. It isn't until Spencer tells Alison that her mother wore that dress to her own funeral that she understands.

Alison and Hanna are at the funeral home, and an agitated Alison can't understand why the visitation book couldn't just be dropped off at her house. From the age of seven, Jessica dragged her along to all her relatives' funerals. It is then that Alison notices a painting on the wall of the funeral home, and on a closer look she rushes out. After Alison has rushed from the room, the funeral director comes out and mistakes Hanna for Alison, to which Alison tells him after her return, that it used to once be easier to tell them apart.

At the cabin in the woods, Aria tells Alison that Ezra will keep their secret if he's asked. Alison then asks if he knows about what happened to Shana, and when Aria tells her he doesn't, Alison tells her it's for the best. Aria tells Alison that Mona thinks she's coming back to Rosewood High, and with Mona knowing the truth about what happened in New York, she could "really create some trouble" if Alison did return to school. Alison tells Aria that Ezra doesn't look at world like Mona does, and that he isn't a bad guy. Ezra's just "too romantic for his own good" and probably the reason Aria fell for him in the first place. Before leaving, Aria hands over Ezra's manuscript to Alison.

Alison has stopped by Ezra's apartment and while she's thankful he was on the roof in New York and he didn't die, she knows he held things back in his book. "There's more, isn't there?" She asks him, and Ezra all but confirms it, "if there was anything left, the only thing preventing me burning it is the possibility that it would help Aria; if she would let me help." After asking if Aria knew about her visit, Ezra tells Alison to tell her, “absolute honesty?” He nods and says that it’s all he has left.

Having left Ezra’s apartment, Alison is walking down the street. Peter Hastings notices her walking alone and calls out to her. He expresses his concern about her being out by herself, especially at night. Alison tells him that if she doesn’t get out of the house now, she never will. Nonetheless, he offers her a ride home.

Thrown From The Ride

Pretty Little Liars S05E04 Thrown from the Ride 113
Alison comes down the stairs at the DiLaurentis house with a box of old clothes. Presuming their Jessica’s, Kenneth tells Ali that she doesn’t have to deal with that at the moment and that she may want to keep some of Jessica’s things for herself. Alison tells him they’re hers, she’s grown out of them and she’s not the same person as she was two years ago. She also tells her father that’s she’s going back to school so she’ll need some things, “notepads, a new backpack”. Kenneth is surprised she’s thinking about going back to school, but Alison tells him she can’t stay in her room forever, it’s not helping, and she needs to go back to school if she’s to graduate before she’s 30. Kenneth thinks she should get a fresh start, but he doesn’t see how it’s possible if they stay in Rosewood. He tells Alison that the place he moved into isn’t that far away. Pleading, Alison tells him they can’t move, she needs her friends, “I can’t have my friends taken away from me to”.

In her bedroom, Alison starts to send a message to Emily, signing it off as –A, but quickly changes her mind and types out her name –Alison. Kenneth drops by Ali’s bedroom and tells her the police need her to go in for a medical exam, and they can’t keep putting it off. Alison doesn’t want to go, and pleads with Kenneth, “Dad, please don’t make me”. Kenneth says that he hasn’t wanted to push her to talk, but worries that Alison was hurt in a way she shouldn’t have been, and if she has, she needs to talk to someone. Alison reassures him that nothing like that happened. Deciding she is hungry, Kenneth goes to make her a sandwich. After Kenneth leaves, Alison draws her knees to her chest and cries as she tries to wipe away the tears.

Alison calls Hanna, who is the only one of her friends to answer, and tells her that she’s going in for a medical exam tomorrow and she doesn’t want to go alone, “can you please come with me?” Hanna agrees to go with her and asks what time she should pick Alison up.

Alison is having her medical exam, where the doctor tells her she has quite powerful lungs, before asking her to tilt her head so he can take a lot at the place where she was injured. The doctor tells Alison he’d like her to come in for an x-ray as the scar tissue on her head may have trapped particles from whatever caused the wound.

Asking Alison is lie back, the doctor notices a scar on Alison’s thigh, and notes that there was no mention of the injury in the police report. Alison tells him that she cut it on a rock when she jumped out of the car. When the doctor starts to suggest she got the scar a different way, Alison gets defensive, “I cut it on a rock. Maybe there was some metal on it or something, I don’t know”. She says it all happened so fast, she didn’t even feel it, “I didn’t even know I was hurt until I looked down and saw the blood”.

With the medical exam completed and Alison redressed, Hanna asks if Alison is okay before offering to drive to Lombrook tonight to get some food from the Chinese restaurant she likes. Nodding, Alison pulls a voice recorder from her bag and hands it to Hanna, telling her to give each of the other girls a copy, “people have been asking a lot of questions. We need to keep out stories straight”. Hanna tells her she was with her the whole time, but Alison tells Hanna she wasn’t, and that she was answering questions for a half hour before the exam even started. Hanna asks her who would ask questions about the exam and Alison tells her someone will, somebody always does, “if it’s not Holbrook, it’s going to be someone else”. Alison reminds her that if people think she’s lying about what happened, it won’t be long before they’re all answering questions about New York. Hanna then asks about the scar on Alison’s thigh, and Alison tells her she wishes she was blindfolded when it happened, “Hanna, once you know something, you can’t un-know it. Believe me, I wish I could”.

Alison is looking at some message on the internet that people had left after she first disappeared. Spencer walks in and seeing what Alison is looking at, takes her laptop from her. Alison tells her that maybe she should leave, “it was stupid to think I could get a new life by just coming back from the dead”. Alison tells Spencer that they got the toxicology screen back from the coroner, and that somebody messed with Jessica’s pills. Alison says that Jessica had low blood pressure, but they found a drug in her system that is for the opposite problem and it stopped her heart. Spencer goes into shock and Alison asks what’s wrong before working out that Spencer thought her dad was the one to kill her mom. When Spencer nods, Alison says how hard it is to think that your parent is capable of something like that. Alison keeps trying to find a good enough reason for how Jessica could just watch someone kill her and let them walk away. Alison tells Spencer that there is still monsters out there, they just might not be “under our beds”.

Alison shows Emily the backpack Kenneth got for her and explains that he is finally coming around to the idea of them staying in Rosewood. Emily tells her that maybe Kenneth was right, maybe Alison should start over somewhere else. Alison doesn’t understand Emily’s sudden flip, and Alison says the only reason she got off the bus was because Emily convinced her to. Alison tells her she’s going back to school and if they just stick together, everything should be okay. She then asks Emily if Hanna gave her the recording, and Emily tells her she’ll memorise the tape, but this is the last time.

Alison is again looking at the messages people left after she first disappeared, most of which are hateful.

Miss Me x 100

Pretty Little Liars S05E05 Emison
Alison is leaning in the window of a car when Aria and Ezra spot her. After Aria calls out to Alison, she walks over to them and asks “is this a date?” to which they both tell her no. Aria asks her what she’s doing, and Alison tells her that her dad forgot her enrollment forms on his desk and he’s stuck on a call so his flunky dropped her off, "I guess school was the kind of thing my mom handled", and Ezra takes the opportunity to say he’s sorry about her mom. Hearing a familiar sound as a bus starts to depart, Alison, Aria and Ezra turn, coming face to face with Jenna who is back in Rosewood.

The five girls are in Aria’s living room, where Emily tells Spencer that nobody like lying to Toby, but if he finds out what happened in New York, before she can finish Aria cuts her off, telling Spencer that she should just tell him the truth. Noticing Spencer looking in Alison's direction, Aria tells her that it's her decision, not Alison's. Alison is constantly looking out the window, looking for Jenna, and Emily tells her to relax, Jenna isn't coming over. Alison comments that she had no idea Jenna was living in New York, "which means Shana was lying when she said Jenna didn't know she was after us". Alison tells the girls they have put up with so much to help her, and she's made a lot of enemies, and just like she's working to earn back their trust she wants to try and make amends with everyone she hurt. When Aria asks if it includes Jenna, she does not answer.

Alison is giving herself a little pep talk as she’s getting ready for her first day back at Rosewood High, "you've been through a lot worse. You can do this".

Having gotten Alison and Paige in her bedroom, Emily asks each of them if they want her to leave, but ultimately they both leave it up to her. Deciding to stay, Emily takes a seat as Alison thanks her for getting them together and that she and Paige are lucky to have a friend like her. Paige tells her that’s the only thing they have in common, and Alison tells her she is ashamed of the way she treated her, “I put people down to feel better about myself”. Paige says she was a terrible person, and she hated her for it. When Alison says she’s sorry, Paige asks if she’s sorry for what she did to her, or for herself, and Alison tells her for all of it.

Sitting on Emily’s bed, Alison asks if Emily wants to order some food, but Emily tells her she already has plans. Alison asks if she could come with her and Emily says she’s already invited Paige. Alison then asks if she could stay a little longer, her dad’s working late and she doesn't want to go home to an empty house. Emily says she can and that Pam is in the den if she needs anyone. As Emily is leaving, Alison tells her that when she was talking to Paige she realised that she owes Emily an apology as well, “I always made you think that your feelings for me were totally one-sided. That wasn’t true. Those kisses weren’t just for practice”. Not knowing what Alison wants her to say, Emily wants to know why Alison is telling her this now, and Alison says she just thought she should know.

Alison is leaving Emily’s house when a car starts up causing Alison to stop in the middle of the road. Alarmed, she walks off, but the car starts to follow.

With the car still following Alison, she runs into the Church where she sends out an ‘SOS’ text message to the other Liars. Hearing a rattling noise, Alison walks into the adjacent room where she finds a window open. Closing it, she turns to find Mona standing behind her. Alison tells her that she doesn’t scare her, and Mona in returns tells Alison that she’s not as good of a liar as she used to be. As Alison walks away, Mona says that she knows Alison and the others were in New York the night Shana was murdered, and she can prove it. Alison asks Mona what she wants, and Mona tells her that she wants Alison to leave town, to which Alison assure Mona that she is no threat. Mona says that while Alison may have convinced Hanna and the other girls that she's changed, and maybe she is trying to be a decent person, but it won't last long. Alison demands to know what Mona is suddenly the victim of, and reminds Mona that she almost killed Hanna. Mona tells her no one feel worse about that than herself, but she’s all better now. Alison doesn’t believe her, and says that if Mona could prove that they were in New York, she would have done it already, “I’m back and I’m staying. So get used to it”. Mona says that no one wants her here, but Alison tells her she’s wrong, “everyone wants to be my friend”. Alison goes on to say that all she had to do was apologise to Cindy and Mindy and they were practically begging her to sit at their lunch table, so it won’t be long until she wins over Mona’s army of losers, “I made you Loser Mona once, and you know I can do it again”. Angry and upset, Mona slaps Alison. Recovering from Mona's hit, Alison slaps her back, cutting her face and demands Mona to leave her alone before she turns and walks from the Church.

In her bedroom, Alison tells Spencer, Emily and Aria she doesn’t think it was a coincidence that she couldn’t reach any of them tonight, and Spencer asks if Alison saw who was driving, and Alison says it couldn’t have been Mona, "she got into that Church way too fast. She had help", and Aria says that it sounds like an ambush. After Emily hands Alison a cup of tea, Aria takes it off of her after noticing Alison’s hands shaking, and asks Alison what she did when Mona slapped her, "I just stared at her". Spencer agrees that Mona has no proof of them being in New York, and that she’s just trying to scare Alison, and Alison tells them Mona succeeded.

When Emily ends her phone call with Pam, Alison asks if Emily remembers what she told her when she pulled her out of the barn. Emily tells her she remembers every word, but doesn’t know what’s real and what she’s made up. She remembers Alison telling her that she was the one she missed the most, and Alison tells her, "you were the hardest one to leave behind".

In Alison's bedroom, Emily asks if Alison is sleeping. Rolling over to face the centre of the bed, the girls stare at each other before Emily leans in for a kiss, which leads to another, and another.

Alison, Emily and Aria walk up to a hung over Hanna and Spencer in the halls of Rosewood High, where Alison asks how Mona knew they were in New York and Aria tells her that she's Mona. As Alison and the other Liars walk into the cafeteria , Lucas stands up and tells Alison that some people really did hope that she had changed. When Spencer says they’re not afraid of Mona, Mona steps forward, wondering what lie's Alison has told them, and that Alison attacked her last night, and when she started saying things like she could make Mona disappear, Mona turned her phone to video. As Mona passes her cellphone to Spencer, the Liars watch Alison’s verbal attack on Mona, including Alison slapping her, which shocks the Liars. Stumbling over a response, Alison glares at Mona before walking off. In the girls bathroom, Alison is leaning over the hand basin, when the Liars, Emily in front, walk in, "that is the last time I underestimate that bitch". Emily wonders how Alison is going to spin this, as they all know she's a great liar. Alison explains that everything she told them last night was true, "she slapped me first, I swear it", and she didn't tell them about her slapping Mona because she felt terrible about it. When Hanna brings up Alison calling Mona, Loser Mona, Alison tells her she knows how it looks, but they know what Mona is capable of, "she set me up". She pleads with the other girls that Mona has found a lot of ways to make them believe things were real when they're not, "I mean Spence, you landed in Radley because of one of those elaborate stunts she pulled". Emily tells Alison that maybe Mona deserved the slap, but Alison went out of her way to lie to them, again.

In Emily's bedroom, Emily is trying to watch a movie, still annoyed with Alison. Alison tells her that she knows she screwed up, and Emily wonders why Alison didn't tell them the truth. Sitting down next to Emily, Alison tells her that she didn't tell them everything because she was afraid. Leaning in, Alison tries to kiss Emily, but she moves away, telling Alison that a kiss is not going to fix this. Suddenly the movie crosses to a breaking news story about the Jane Doe who was buried in Alison's grave.

Everyone has gathered in Emily's living room for the breaking news story in regards to the identity of the Jane Doe who was buried in Alison's grave. As Hanna and Caleb arrive, Alison and Caleb share a look. As reporters on the television comment about the mystery surrounding Alison's disappearance and who was buried in her grave, Alison and Emily hold on to each others hands tightly, something that doesn't go unnoticed by Hanna. The Police Chief explains that they've received confirmation tonight that the girl that was buried alive on the DiLaurentis property was Bethany Young. As the Police Chief is finishing up the press conference, a large boom is heard and windows of Emily's lounge room explode. Recovering from the glass blast, Alison and the others walk out onto the street to find the Cavanaugh house on fire and rubble lying all over the road. After Toby has run off to see if anyone was inside the Cavanaugh home, the Liars' cell phones all start beeping and ringing.

Run, Ali, Run

Pretty Little Liars S05E06 Alison
The Liars' cell phones are beeping and ringing with an incoming text message, and Alison says that it is from A, and when Ezra asks what it says, Aria reads it out loud, "Did you miss me, bitches. -A". A second explosion inside the Cavanaugh house occurs leaving Alison and the others ducking for cover.

In Emily's bedroom, Alison wonders if the text message they received means they were wrong about Shana, and Aria comments that 'A' is alive and knows that she killed Shana. When Aria says that A has been watching them, waiting for right time to resurface, Alison wonders "why now?", and Spencer tells them that's what they have to figure out.

In the school cafeteria, Alison, Hanna and Emily meet up with Spencer and Aria, and seeing Emily looking uneasy, Aria asks if she's okay, only for Alison to say that Emily practically jumped out of her skin when somebody dropped their lunch tray. Getting a text message, Alison is shocked, and shows the girls the snapchat video she received of Jessica being buried in the Hastings backyard, along with a message - "I buried your mom the same way I watched her bury you. -A", before the content automatically deletes after a few short seconds.

In Hanna's kitchen, Alison says that "A killed my mother", and when Emily starts reeling off some names, Aria suggests it could be someone they haven't even thought of. Alison says that somethings never change, and that they're back to square one, but Aria tells her that Ezra thinks that Bethany can ultimately lead them to 'A'. Alison tells them she "can't wait around for answers", and she needs to leave town "now", and when Emily says she's just got back, Alison says the only reason she came back was because she thought 'A' was dead. Hanna wonders why 'A' wouldn't just kill Alison, instead of playing games, and Alison tells her she has no idea, "but I'm not sticking around to find out". Emily tells Alison that is she leaves Rosewood they can't protect her, and Aria says that it's not like before, the cops are watching her every move. Hanna tells her the whole world knows she's alive, and Spencer asks even if she could run, where would she hide.

Walking down the stairs in the Marin house, Alison says to Hanna that she should never have come back to Rosewood. Hanna tells her she get's that she is scared, they all do, and that's why Alison is staying with her, and Alison says she "you can't just babysit me forever, Hanna". As the doorbell rings, Alison tells her to not just open it, and checking who is outside through the window, Hanna tells her it's just Travis, before Alison says she'll be in the kitchen.

On her phone on Hanna's back patio, Alison tells her caller to "just get there", and she'll them then. Hanging up, Hanna asks who she was on the phone with and Alison tells her it doesn't matter. Hanna says it it sounded like she was making plans to go somewhere and asks if she was, and when Alison doesn't give her an answer, Hanna presses, and Alison tells her they she can't live in a world where she jumps every time the doorbell rings. Hanna asks if she's just going to run away, and Alison asks her not to tell the other girls, or try and stop her. Hanna wonders what Alison will do, spin another kidnapping story perhaps, and Alison asks her "do you think I want to live like this? Because I don't". Alison goes on to say that she'd love to stay, but she can't, "not while that psychopath is still out there". Alison tells Hanna not to worry, after she's gone, Hanna can go back to focusing on her "little love triangle". As Alison is walking back inside, Hanna stops her, telling her that she's going to help her leave town.

Up in Hanna's bedroom, Alison tells Hanna that Noel is going to pick her up from Princeton station at 10pm, and when Alison says she needs Hanna to take her to Newton station at 8pm, Hanna tells her she'll drive her to Princeton. As Hanna is grabbing clothes out of her wardrobe, Alison tells her she doesn't have to give her so much, but Hanna says that she can't just walk out of her house with a bag of clothes. Alison says that she wants to go see her dad before she leaves, and she needs to grab a few things before she leaves from her house. Hanna tells her she'll drop her off now, and she'll go get cash, and Alison should just call her whenever she's ready to Alison. As Hanna is walking out of her bedroom, Alison thanks her, "you're really saving me, Hanna", and she hugs her.

Walking into the DiLaurentis living room, Alison turns on a lamp and grabbing her phone, she calls her dad asking where he is. With her dad not coming home tonight, she tells him she'll just sleepover at Hanna's and tells him that she loves him. Looking around the living room, Alison starts heading up the stairs.

In her bedroom, Alison grabs a yellow scarf from her wardrobe and wraps it around her neck before grabbing a drawer from her dresser and emptying the contents onto her bed. Pulling up a fake wooden liner from the drawer, Alison rips off some fake ID's with the names 'Marnie Winter' and 'Rebecca Kelly', along with some money. Putting everything back in the drawer and placing it back in her dresser, Alison grabs her handbag and with one last look around her bedroom, she turns the light off and walks out. Walking back downstairs, Alison notices the lamp she had turned on it now off and calls out to her dad to see if he is home. A figure walks up behind Alison and knocks her to the ground with a hockey stick, before stepping on her back as Alison is trying to crawl away. Grabbing the tail ends of Alison's scarf, Alison pleads "no" as A begins to choke her. As 'A' has her leaning backwards a table, still strangling her, Alison reaches for a knife, but as 'A' pulls her forward, Alison drops the sharp instrument. Hearing something break, Emily rushes into the living room, where she pushes 'A' off Alison and gets into fisticuffs with 'A'. After 'A' has run off, Emily crawls over to Alison and wraps her arms around her and pulls her into a hug. As Emily turns on the lamp and lightens the living room, she tells Alison that they're calling the police, but Alison tells her she can't do that, and she can't call her dad either, "if anyone knows that this happened, I'm never going to be able to leave here". Emily says that if she doesn't want anybody to know, that's fine, but Alison isn't going anywhere, at least not tonight.

In Emily's bedroom, Alison tells Spencer that "it wasn't A. Whoever it was could have killed me, and chose not to", and when Spencer asks who would want to scare her like that, Alison shrugs before Emily suggests Lucas, or Melissa. Shocked at hearing Melissa's name and finding out she's part of Mona's gang, Alison tries to reassure Spencer by saying that didn't know who it was, it was dark and they couldn't see anything. Walking into Emily's bedroom, Aria hugs Alison and asks how this could have happened, Emily says it happened because Alison was alone, Hanna wasn't with her. When Spencer asks where Hanna is, Emily says she didn't call her because she was going to help Alison leave town. Alison tells them not to be pissed at Hanna, "what happened is just proof that I should go", and when she says that they're not closer to figuring out who 'A' is, Aria tells her that might not be true. Pulling a picture from her handbag, Aria passes it to Alison and tells her that Eddie Lamb left it for Ezra. As Alison, Spencer and Emily look the picture over, Alison says that it's of her mother, and Aria tells them that she and Ezra think that Bethany drew it while she was in Radley, "so they did know each other?", but Aria just shrugs in response. Alison gets a text message and reads it aloud to the girls, "see how easy it is for me to kill you? If you leave Rosewood, I will. -A", and Aria says that she doesn't get it, for two years A has been hunting Alison down like a warrior cat. Emily concludes that 'A' wants Alison alive and in town, and when Aria asks why, Spencer questions what's worse than death.

Alison says she never thanked Emily for what she did tonight, and Emily tells her she didn't do anything, but Alison says she risked her life for her, "most people see danger and they run in the opposite direction as fast as they can". When Emily says it's getting late, and asks if Alison wants her to take her home, Alison tells her she doesn't want to be alone tonight, and asks if she can stay over, "we'll just sleep. I promise". Emily tells her of course and tucks Alison into bed.

Walking out of the DiLaurentis house, Alison thanks Emily for stopping here, and as they're about to get into Emily's car, they see Lieutenant Tanner pull up. Emily wonders what's she doing here, and Alison says she doesn't know. Tanner asks Alison if her dad is home, and Alison tells her she's just missed him, and wonders if there is anything she can help her with. Tanner tells her there is, and that she'd like Alison to come down to the station later with her dad and answer some questions. When Alison asks what the questions would be about, Tanner tells her they'd be about her childhood friend, Shana Fring, and Alison says that she "still can't believe that she's gone". Tanner also mentions that they'd like it if Alison could tell them where she was the night Shana died, but Alison tells her she already did, "I was in Philly with the girls". Tanner then asks her specifically where, and it'll be those sort of questions that she will be asking. After Tanner has walked off, Alison get's a text message, and looking over Alison's shoulder, Emily listens as Alison reads it out to her, "Time for the caged bird to sing. -A".

The Silence of E. Lamb

Pretty Little Liars S05E07 011
Walking past Emily and her mom, Alison leads the Liars into the girls’ bathroom. In the bathroom, Alison tells Emily that it’s not like her mom to put a dinner on at the last minute, “she’s a planner”, and when Hanna says that Emily’s mom is not one of Mona’s secret ninja’s, before asking if they’re supposed to be suspicious of everything, Alison says that it “saves time”. Alison asks Emily if she can put her mom off, but Emily tells her no, not without an epic excuse. Seeing no other way around it, Alison tells them they’ll just do it, “get it over with”, and when Hanna mumbles that Alison’s wish is their command, Alison looks at her and asks what that is supposed to mean, but the school bell rings and Hanna says she has to go to class. After Hanna, Spencer and Aria have walked out of the bathroom, Alison asks Emily if she could walk her home after school, “everything that happened with ‘A’ at my house was just really intense”. When Emily tells her sure, Alison asks how her arm is, and Emily tells her it’ll be fine. Alison mentions that she doesn’t think she’ll be fine, and toying with her scarf, she wonders if the teachers will notice her bruises as that’s the sort of thing they have to report. Emily tells Alison to breathe as her concealer covers most of it. Sydney walks out of one of the stalls and after greeting Emily, she introduces herself to Alison before commenting on her scarf.

Walking into a classroom, Alison tells Caleb that it is good to see him again, “now the smokes cleared”, and she’s glad she’s not the only one that has to take the tests. Caleb tells her he’s taking the tests to get out, while Alison is taking them to get in. Grabbing the pen that Caleb passes to her, Alison signs her name and comments that either way, it all comes down to the same thing, “pass, fail. Win, lose”. After Caleb asks if that’s what she learnt the two years someone had her in a box, and Alison questions, “I got out of the box, didn’t I?”, and Caleb tells her with a bit of help from her friends. When Alison tells him that everyone needs someone to depend on, Caleb tells her she seems to need a little support, but Alison doesn’t understand what he means. Caleb tells her he’s not sure either, and he doesn’t know her that well, to which Alison tells him he doesn’t know her at all. Caleb tells her she’s right, and that he only knows her by what she leaves behind, like a tornado.

On the front porch at the Fields’ house, Pam laughs at something Alison says, and mentions that Mrs Horowitz means well and that she really shouldn’t laugh, but Alison tells her to “please laugh”, she needs as much laughter as she can get. After Pam and Emily have walked inside to finish getting dinner ready, Alison asks Hanna if she had talked to Caleb, and when Hanna tells her that he’s not going to make any trouble, Alison says that a boy like that can make trouble without even trying. Hanna tells Alison she trusts Caleb, but Alison tells Hanna she doesn’t, “now would be a really bad time to make a mistake”. Hanna says that Caleb is not a mistake, he’s the most un-mistake thing in her life, but Alison tells her she needs to keep a clear head and it’s hard to do that when you’re kissing somebody. Hanna wonders if Alison is asking her to keep it simple, and Alison tells her all she’s saying “he came back to town. You were still in a relationship. Maybe you should just cool it a little bit. Make sure you’re doing the right thing. For everybody”, and when Hanna asks if she’s asking her not to see Caleb, Alison doesn’t answer. From inside the Fields’ home, Pam calls out asking if anyone would like a pop over, and Alison asks for one to be saved before heading inside.

At the dining table, Pam mentions that they were given a deal on the replacement windows, and explains to Alison that is the second set of windows they have brought this year, so they received a bad luck discount. Alison says that she could use one of those, and Emily says they all could. When Hanna says she thinks people make their own luck, Alison tells her that maybe she’s right, “maybe we do set ourselves up for bad things”. She goes on to say “we don’t mean to, but we do”, and with what happened with her, there were times in the dark where she would just think “what did I do to anyone that was so bad to deserve this”, and Pam tells her she can’t blame herself for what happened. Alison tells her sure, in the light, with clean clothes and a hot plate of food it makes sense, “but when you’re by yourself, you don’t even know what day it is. The only one around to blame is yourself. I did. I was so ashamed of what had happened to me”. As Pam tells her not to say that, Alison says that she was ashamed, and that’s why she asked Emily, Hanna and the others to not tell anyone when she came back, “and they didn’t. And that must have been so hard for them”. Pam tells Alison that she has some very special friends, and Alison states her she knows, before reaching out for Emily’s hand. When Hanna tells Alison that she’s the special one, and there’s nobody else like her, Alison just looks at her, not saying a word. As Hanna chokes on mouthful of her drink, Pam asks if she’s okay, before Alison asks Pam if she would like some help to clear. Standing up from the table, Alison looks from Emily to Hanna, before grabbing Emily’s plate and walking from the dining room.

Alison is seen on Spencer’s security camera footage in the Hastings’ backyard, but it is unclear as to where she was going, or what she was doing.

Scream For Me

Pretty Little Liars S05E08 Alison
At Rosewood High, Alison is being interviewed by Lieutenant Tanner in a small room off of the music room where the other liars are in choir class. Tanner asks Alison to clarify that she hadn’t spoken to Shana since before her abduction, and Alison tells her that she hadn’t spoken to anyone. Tanner says that she is just trying to understand why Shana, who thought Alison was deceased, chose to move up to the Rosewood area and live with her aunt. Alison tells Tanner that she cannot answer that, and Tanner reminds her neither can Shana, who really is deceased. Tanner asks Alison if she ever tried to contact Shana, to which Alison says she thought this was going to be about her mother, “am I the only one who thinks this freak went after her because I got away from him”. As the school bell rings, Tanner tells Alison that the police have many theories.

As Alison joins her friends after class, Emily asks what it was about and Alison says Shana, “it was all about Shana”. Aria asks if Tanner knows they were in Philly that night, and Alison says that she can’t tell, but Tanner clearly doesn’t believe her story, “she’s trying to trip me up”. Alison, having grabbed her sheet music book walks back over to the girls, and after Emily asks her what is wrong, Alison wonders when someone had the opportunity to mark her book. Spencer asks if she had her bag on her all morning, and Alison tells her she did. Hanna grabs Alison’s sheet music book, and when Hanna says she doesn’t get it, Spencer explains that someone has circled all the A’s. After seeing a reaction on Spencer, Hanna and Emily’s faces, Alison asks if there is something else, so Spencer reads out what they found, “glad to hear you singing. Last time you were all choked up. –A”. Looking over their shoulders, the girls look around the music room to see who could have left the note for Alison.

Walking out the front of school, Alison spots Hanna and walking over to her, she passes her a bottle of water, “hydrate”. Hanna tells Alison that she’s really sorry about the other night at Emily’s dinner, and it was so not cool, and Alison mentions that they were all stressed. Alison asks if there is something else, and Hanna is really upset her with, but as Alison starts to trail off, Hanna tells her no, they’re good. Alison says that her dad is going to Westport for a few days and he wants her to go with him, and when Hanna asks if ‘A’ is going to let that happen, Alison tells her “never”. Alison goes on to say she obviously can’t stay home alone, and wonders if she can crash at Hanna’s house. Taking a moment, Hanna says she’ll have to talk to her mom as she has a lot going on right now, but she’ll talk to her.

Alison tells Ashley Marin that there were so many days she thought she was never going to make it, and then she thought of her family, and that’s why got her through her ordeal. Alison greets Hanna when she walks in, and Ashley explains that Alison is going to be staying with them for a few days, until her dad gets back. Ashley tells Alison to go upstairs and try and get some rest while she and Hanna finish making dinner. As Ashley is getting up from the stool she was sitting on, Alison asks if she’s sure, and Ashley tells her absolutely before going on to say that Alison should take a nice hot bath. Passing Alison a jar of bath salts, Ashley tells her that they’ll help her relax, and thanking Ashley, Alison grabs her bag and leaves to head upstairs.

Alison is sitting by Hanna’s bedroom window when Ashley walks in looking for Hanna. After asking if everything is okay, Ashley asks where Hanna is and when Alison tells her Caleb picked her up, Ashley questions why Alison is not at school. Alison tells Ashley that she heard someone last night, “outside the window trying to get in”. Alison goes on to say that she couldn’t get to sleep, she kept hearing things, and when she went to get up this morning to go to school, she couldn’t move. As Ashley listens, she notices a makeshift bed set up in Hanna’s closest, and asks if Alison slept in there last night. When Alison nods that she did, Ashley says that she’ll call the school, and for Alison to try and get some rest. After Ashley has left, Alison looks into the closest, tears continuing to well in her eyes.

Knocking on Hanna’s bedroom door, Ashley walks in and greets Alison, telling her that Hanna is having dinner with Caleb, again, and while she’s not totally sure what’s going on with her, Ashley thought that she and Alison could go out and grab a bite to eat. When Alison tells her that she’s “okay staying here”, Ashley sits down next to her on the bed and says that she’s been inside all day, and she thinks they need to go out. Taking a smile, Alison smiles and agrees, “okay”.

From downstairs, Ashley calls out to Alison and Alison says that she’ll be down in a minute. As Alison walks down the staircase, “I’m actually not that hungry”, Ashley presses her fingers to her lips and shhh’s her. Asking for Alison’s phone, Ashley starts to dial a number, and after hearing the French doors open then close, Alison trails Ashley into the kitchen and over to where the intruder has just exited. Peering out of the window, Alison looks out into the storm.

Sitting at the bottom of the stairs, Alison listens as Tanner asks Ashley if there was anything distinctive about the shadow, and after Ashely says that it was a man’s shadow, Tanner asks Alison if she’s certain that’s what it was. When Alison says “yes”, Tanner asks Alison why she was certain it was a man’s shadow, and Alison tells her that it was “big. Loud”. Tanner questions what Alison means by loud, and Alison explains that his weight made the floorboards creak. Tanner says that she thought Alison wasn’t aware of the intruder until she came downstairs, and by that time he would have been in the kitchen, before questioning if there are floorboards or tiles in the kitchen. Ashley cuts in and tells her they are floorboards, before asking why she is questioning Alison like she is. Tanner tells Ashley that is standard police procedure, and Ashley wonders if that’s right, because she is treating Alison like a criminal. Taking a step towards Tanner, Ashley tells Tanner that Alison has been through enough and that there is a predator out there and the police have done nothing to make anyone feel any safer. Ashley goes on to say she’s not speaking as a concerned citizen, she’s speaking as a mother and they need to catch the psycho before he… pausing, Ashley looks back towards Alison before turning back to Lieutenant Tanner, and says they need to catch him before he strikes again. As Ashley’s words hang in the air, Alison rests her elbow on the window sill and cradles her head in her hand.

In her bedroom, Alison is packing some clothes, and when Emily says she’s not leaving another voice mail, Alison asks who she is trying to call. Emily explains that she’s trying to call Aria, and Aria won’t call her back. Spencer walks in, and says she’s just got off the phone with Hanna before asking Alison why there is a cop car in her driveway. Alison says the cop brought her here so he could get her dad’s numbers in Westport, and Alison told him she needed to pack up a few more things. Emily asks Spencer how Hanna’s mom is, and Spencer tells her that Ashley is a basket case, before questioning Alison if this is how it’s going to be from now on, their parents are going to be physically attacked too. Spencer goes on to say this is not the same ‘A’ who got their jollies by breaking into their lockers and leaving nasty notes, this ‘A’ is, but before Spencer can finish, Alison tells them it was Noel Kahn. After Emily asks what she said, Alison says that she asked Noel to break into Hanna’s house tonight, and that’s who was in the kitchen, “it was Noel”. Going on, Alison explains that she needed someone who mattered, someone like Hanna’s mom to stop questioning what happened to her. When Spencer asks why she would do that, Alison poses, “well it worked, didn’t it?”

March of Crimes

Pretty Little Liars S05E09 262
Alison is putting some clothes away in Hanna’s wardrobe when Emily asks her why Noel would help her break into the Marin house, before Spencer asks how he would have explained himself if he was caught. Turning around, Alison tells Spencer’s she “a little loud”, to which Spencer comments that Alison is a little crazy. After Hanna has walked in, Alison says they needed to do this, and they saw how Tanner cornered her at school. When Alison mentions that Tanner is trying to poke holes in their story, Spencer correcting her, telling her that it’s her story. Alison’s phone rings and after seeing who it is, she chucks her phone into her bag. Spencer wonders if it’s Noel, and if he’s the person Alison has been sneaking out of her house in the middle of the night to meet. Alison asks Spencer what that’s supposed to mean, “you’ve been spying on me?” and when she doesn’t get an answer, Alison says that well maybe now they’ll understand why she turned to Noel, “at least someone still has my back”. When Emily comments Alison’s name, Alison says she sees what is going on, “one of my best friends doesn’t even show up to my S.O.S call and the other one is… shadowing me, like I’m the enemy”. Going on, Alison says that maybe asking Noel wasn’t the perfect plan, but she’s kind of running out of choices. As Alison starts walking out of Hanna’s bedroom, Emily asks her where she is going, and Alison says that she’s going to call her dad back, “I’d like to do it outside, but Spence, are you going to follow me, or have you already set up a camera for that?”

From the bathroom, Alison calls out asking Hanna where her moisturiser is, only for Ashley to call back, telling Alison to use hers.

Walking up to Spencer at her locker, Alison questions if she’s next. When Spencer asks her what, Alison explains that Tanner is at school again, “if that frizz top cop just gets one of us to cave”, to which Spencer says that she’s not caving. Alison wonders about Aria, “she’s totally icing us out”, before asking if there is something going on between her and Hanna. Spencer says that she doesn’t know, and Alison mentions that neither does Hanna, or at least that’s what she says. Spencer wonders how long Alison is going to be staying with Hanna, and where her dad is, and Alison says that she played down what happened last night so he wouldn’t rush back. Seeing Spencer’s face, Alison adds that it’s not like she feels safe in her bedroom, before Spencer says that she needs to go to class and that she needs to leave early to go see the eye doctor. As Spencer starts walking off, Alison calls out to her, “if one of us falls, we all fall, and A wins”. Noticing Spencer looking past her, Alison turns around to see Hanna stumbling in, and when Spencer asks if Alison and Hanna came to school together, Alison tells her no, “Caleb dropped her off”. Turning back to Spencer, Alison says that Hanna is the one Spencer should be following, before Alison walks passed Spencer and heads around the corner.

As the school bell rings, Alison asks Hanna what’s next for her, and when Hanna tells her bio, Alison comments that Hanna is lucky, “they’re making me take Earth Science with a bunch of ninth graders. It’s really humiliating”. As Hanna starts walking off, Alison tells her to wait, she’ll walk her, but Hanna says she doesn’t need an escort. Alison apologises for what happened last night, and that she’ll pay for the window, but Hanna tells her it’s not about the window, and that Alison’s stupid stunts affect a lot of people. Alison asks if Hanna is talking about her mom, and when Hanna doesn’t say anything, Alison asks if Hanna and Aria are fighting about her, “I can help you. I can talk to her”. Raising her voice, Hanna says she doesn’t want Alison to do anything at all, she just wants to be left alone, and she thinks that it’s best that Alison stays with one of the other girls. Calling out to Hanna as she attempts to walk away, Alison asks what is happening with them, “our group is falling apart”. Hearing a walking stick, Alison turns and watches as Jenna walks out of one of the adjoining rooms and into the music room. Greeting Jenna, Alison tells her who it is, and says that she didn’t know Jenna had enrolled at Rosewood. Jenna says that she came back a few weeks ago, and that nobody seemed to notice, but then again, she didn’t come back from the dead. Alison mentions that she’s sorry about Shana, “she meant a lot to me too”, and Jenna says that she’s sorry for Alison as well and that it must be hard to come back knowing someone is still after her. When Jenna starts walking out, Alison asks her to wait before wondering how Jenna did it. Jenna asks Alison what, and when Alison says, “Shana. She was my friend before she met you. How did you turn her against me?”, Jenna tells her she didn’t, Alison did.

Alison and Ashley walk into the Marin’s kitchen, where Alison asks Ashley what she thinks really happened, and Ashley tells her she doesn’t know. Alison questions if Ashley finds it weird that Aria’s mom would just get food poisoning right as everyone was showing up, to which Ashley mentions that weddings are tricky, they churn up a lot of stuff, especially the second time around. Ashley says that there may be more to the story, and Alison agrees, “totally. Someone’s not telling the truth”. Ashley asks Alison if she’ll eat kale, and Alison says that she’ll eat anything, “as long as it’s not from the Brew”. Ashley get a phone call, and when she confirms to Lieutenant Tanner that Alison is with her, Alison stands up. Listening to Ashley’s side of the conversation, Alison asks what is going on, before reposing the question after Ashley has ended the call. Ashley explains that the police caught him, and after Alison asks who they caught, Ashley says they caught the person who broke into the house last night and they’re questioning him. Going on, Ashley says the police think he’s ready to talk, and they want Alison to go down to the precinct and answer some questions.

Walking into an observation room, Alison watches as Lieutenant Tanner questions the man they have in custody. As Alison and Ashley listen to the man confess to kidnapping Alison, Ashley asks the detective in with him to turn the volume down before asking Alison if that is him, the man who kidnapped her.

A Dark Ali

Pretty Little Liars S05E10 Alison
In an office at the Rosewood Police Department, Alison is looking at Cyrus Petrillo’s mug shot when Kenneth walks in. As Kenneth asks Alison if that’s the man who hurt her, Alison says that she doesn’t know. Kenneth asks Alison if that’s him, if that’s the man who hurt her, and turning to face her father, Alison tells him she doesn’t know.

In Alison’s bedroom, the Liars are shocked to hear that Alison said didn’t know if Cyrus was her ‘kidnapper’ or not. Alison wonders what she was supposed to say, and when Emily suggests that she could have said no, Alison reminds her that she was ‘blindfolded’, to which Spencer asks if they seriously have to remind her that she was never actually kidnapped. Aria tells Alison that there is a man being questioned by the police right now for a crime that never happened, and Emily comments that this is all A, as Cyrus knew about the rock that hit her, knew where she was kept, what she ate, and what mattress she slept on. As Hanna and Spencer realise Cyrus’ story is the same as the one she told the doctor and Holbrook, Aria says that it doesn’t matter where ‘A’ got it, what matters is what A’s planning to do now. Alison mentions that if A’s behind it all, that’s “exactly who this guy is going to run to when he panics”. Hanna asks what Alison is saying, and Alison says that “if I can make him think that he’s going to go down for this, we can follow him to ‘A’ and finally win A’s game”. Aria tells Alison that it’s great and if they win the game, they find out who A is, but questions what will happen when they lose.

Emily tells her that Aria was right and that if Alison identifies Cyrus, it will be way too easy for ‘A’ to prove that she’s lying. As Emily mentions that they don’t even know who this Cyrus person is, or where he came from, Alison that she gets it, but she can’t just say that he is innocent. As Emily asks why not, Kenneth knocks on and opens the door. As Kenneth asks Emily if he can have a word with Alison, Alison tells him that she already told her. Kenneth tells Alison she wasn’t supposed to do that, to which Alison tells him that Emily helped save her life, “she deserves to know what’s going on”. Kenneth comments that the person Alison should be talking to is Tanner, before saying that the ‘kidnapper’ knew every detail. After Kenneth questions how he would know that unless he did it, he sits down next to Alison and says he confessed already, and that the police think he could have also killed her mom, and Bethany Young. Kenneth tells Alison that they’re all there to support her, and they all want the same thing, to put this man away for a very long time. Feeling uncomfortable, Emily tells Alison that they all want her to be safe. Kenneth tells Alison that whatever she’s afraid of, she shouldn’t be, her ‘kidnapper’ is behind bars, and all they have to do is keep him there.

Walking into the DiLaurentis living room, Emily asks Alison how long her dad will be, and Alison tells her about an hour, “he’s meeting with a social worker”. Emily questions why, and Alison explains that her dad thinks she’s afraid of retribution, before Emily says that Kenneth thinks that’s the reason why Alison doesn’t want to ID Cyrus. Emily mentions that she knows Alison’s dad is putting pressure on her, and she knows he’s convinced that this is the guy who took her and killed her mom, as well as Bethany Young. Going on, Emily says that she’s sure Tanner would love to wrap up all three nightmares with a neat little bow, and Alison…, cutting in, Alison asks what about her, and as Emily says that she loves that for once everyone seems to believe her, Alison tells her that it’s not about that. Telling her good, Emily says that she swears if Alison lets some stranger go to jail because she’s trying to cover her ass, but before Emily can finish, Alison cuts in and says that he is not a stranger. Emily questions who, Cyrus, before asking what Alison means by that he’s not a stranger, and if she knows him, and Alison tells her that she doesn’t know how ‘A’ found him. Pulling up her dress to show Emily her scar, Alison says that he was the one “who gave me this”.

Emily questions that Alison was living with this person, in an abandoned basement, before asking whether Cyrus knew who she was. Alison explains that all he knew was that she was on the run, “he said he could tell that I was different. Special”. When Emily asks Alison what happened, Alison says that Cyrus didn’t want her, before she flashes back her and Cyrus in the basement and the Isle of the Dead painting, “he just wanted my stuff. My money. And the way he looked at me. Like I was nothing to him. Worse than nothing”. Grabbing Alison’s hand, Emily says that she’s sorry, but ‘A’ is using this creep to trap her, to trap all of them, and that ‘A’ wants Alison to identify him. Emily tells Alison that she has to let him go, before questing if Alison knows what she has to do. Nodding, Alison says that she knows.

Sitting in The Brew drinking a coffee, Alison is approached by Ezra who tells her that she is not in this alone, and that a lot of people have supported her, done whatever she’s asked, and gone along with all her stories… Alison wonders, “is this a threat?”, and Ezra tells her no, right now it’s an observation. Alison questions if Aria asked him to talk with her, “because if one more person tells her what I should do, I swear I’m going to scream”, and before Ezra can answer, Kenneth walks back to the table. After Ezra gets up to leave, Kenneth asks Alison if she is okay and if he was bothering her, but Alison tells him that it is fine. Kenneth tells Alison that they don’t have much time, and that they have to release her kidnapper after 48 hours. As Kenneth says that he knows this is hard, but they really have to go, Alison says she thinks she’s just going to get a refill.

Alison and Kenneth meet Lieutenant Tanner out the front of the Rosewood Police Department, where they all get into Tanner’s vehicle and drive away.

Walking down into a basement, Tanner explains to Alison and Kenneth that this is the place where Cyrus said he kept her and that the property has been abandoned for years. Looking around as she walks down the stairs, Alison sees flashes of the basement at a previous time, and Kenneth asks if she is okay. As she continues to look around, she sees more flashes, and Tanner mentions that Cyrus Petrillo may have confessed, but they don’t have the physical evidence they need to charge him. Saying that she knows this is difficult, Tanner tells Alison that since she can’t identify her abductor, she needs her to try and remember this space. Hearing a sound above, Alison jumps and flashes back to when she brought Cyrus down into the basement, telling him she wants him to meet her friends.

After flashing back to Alison in real time, she flashes back to when she woke up from being asleep and found Cyrus taking her bag. Running after him, Alison tries to pull her bag off of Cyrus’ shoulder, and as Cyrus tells her to get off, he engages her in a physical fight. Slamming Alison against a wall, Cyrus covers her mouth so she cannot scream, and taking a knife, Cyrus stabs Alison in the thigh. Watching as Cyrus takes her bag, and the hand of one of her friends, Alison is left putting pressure to the wound on her thigh.

In the present, Alison continues to look around the basement before focusing on one spot in particular. Tanner notices the recognition on Alison’s face and asks if she remembers the place, to which Alison tells her, “I could never forget it”. As Tanner dials a number on her cell phone, Kenneth wraps his daughter in a hug.

Arriving home, Alison and Kenneth get out of the car to find Emily sitting on their porch. Emily asks Alison if she can talk with her, and Alison tells Kenneth that she will be right in. Alison questions that Emily heard, and Emily says she did, but she didn’t understand. Questioning that Alison identified Cyrus, Emily says she thought they were all in this together. When Alison says that they are, Emily tells her no, they’re not, and that whatever A has planned affects all of them, not just Alison. Alison says that she waited for as long as she could, “everyone was looking at me”, and being in that place, “you weren’t there, Em”. Emily wonders when wasn’t she there, when Hanna broke her leg because of A?; when she almost died in an elevator because she was trying to find out who killed Alison?; or when Spencer had to check into Radley because of everything Alison disappearance put them through? Emily goes on to say that the past several years hasn’t been easy for any of them, but what makes it okay is that they stick together, and they don’t turn on each other. Alison tells Emily that she has a plan, and Emily says she’s sure Alison does, but the problem is she’ll throw them all under a bus to pull it off. Emily tells Alison that she stuck up for her, against Paige, against Spencer, against everyone, and that she wasted so much time on her. As Emily starts to walk away, Alison says that she’s going to make it right, “I can still find out who ‘A’ is”, but Emily tells her that she’s done, she’s so done.

Dressed as Vivian Darkbloom, Alison approaches Cyrus in the woods, where he tells her that he was beginning to think she might not show. Saying that there is a warrant out for his arrest, Cyrus goes on to say that he barely made it out in time and that it wasn’t the deal they made. Reaching into her jacket pocket, Alison tells him he’s lucky there was even a deal at all, and that she should have left him for dead when she found him, “no one would miss you, Cy. Not for a second”. Grabbing the plane ticket, Cyrus tells Alison they he could have told the police the truth about her, how they met and all the fun they had together. Alison tells him she could have as well, but then they both lose, “now we both win”. As Cyrus starts to walk off, Alison tells him that she found him once and he can bet his life she can find him again. As Alison says that this is his once chance to start over and he better use it, Cyrus turns back to her and questions the way she’s used her chance. Alison watches as Cyrus gets into his car and drives away.

No One Here Can Love or Understand Me

While not seen, Alison is seen with a photo with Cyrus and another one provided by Ezra.

Furthermore, Alison is mentioned to have left town for a few days with her father as he was worried about the release of the kidnapper. Also during the episode, Alison tries to ring the liar's mobiles to no avail.

Posthumous Video Footage

PLL205-1169

Before disappearing, Alison had met with Ian at "The Kissing Rock," where they had made a makeout-tape. In the footage shown to the girls by Agent Cooper in "Know Your Frenemies," Alison teases Ian, "I know you want to kiss me." Ian replies, "Come closer." A struggle appears to occur, and the camera falls to the ground, losing focus on the other two. Then, Alison's hand falls into view of the camera; her hand grabs onto some dirt and leaves, before going limp. She falls down and you can only see her hand... it's not moving. But a bit later, in The Devil You Know, it is seen that afterwards she grabs at the dirt then lets go of it and laughs, thanks Ian for coming, and then Ian puts his jacket back on and walks away. The girls had originally taken this video as proof that Ian murdered Alison, but upon seeing the additional footage, courtesy of "A," they are left to wonder. In some video footage from the same night in "The Blond Leading the Blind," Ian claimed to Garrett and Jenna that he met Alison at "The Kissing Rock" in order to obtain the N.A.T. Club videos that she had taken. Unbeknownst to him, Alison had already stored the videos away and gave Emily the key.

Relationships

The Liars

PLL201-1194

Alison was the ring-leader of her group of friends, which consisted of Hanna, Aria, Spencer and Emily. Alison had hated Mona, who was dorky at the time and constantly made fun of her. When Aria thought about being nice to her and waiting for her, Alison convinces her not to. Alison treated Hanna like her lackey, Emily is hinted to be more than a friend, and Spencer and Alison often clashed with one another. She also made fun of Lucas a lot and called him a hermaphrodite, or "Hermie," which led to Lucas smashing up her memorial. She did not like Jenna and referred to her as "Jenna the Jerk", stating that she found her creepy. Alison had ultimate power over her friends, getting them to do what she wanted despite their objections. No one ever stood up to her, except Spencer although the latter backed down almost immediately when Ali spoke. Though she was cruel and nasty to them, it is hinted multiple times she truly and deeply cared for the girls.

Aria Montgomery (see "Arialison") -

Alison and aria equal mona

Alison has a more neutral relationship with Aria than the other three girls. She seems to have the loosest connection to Aria, compared to the other three girls. They seem to get along and have a casual friendship. They don't get into many arguments, nor does Alison treat Aria like a lackey. However, Aria does follow Alison's suggestions most of the time. Alison mostly lets Aria do her own thing and does not often get involved in her personal life, except when she threatened her father about the affair, and would sometimes use it to get Aria to do what she wants. They are both naturally independent and obsessed with their own sophistication.

Emily Fields (see "Emison") -

PLL109-00553

It is seen multiple times throughout the series that Emily was closest to Alison than rest of the group. In "The Perfect Storm," we learn Ali and Emily had a relationship that was more than a friendship. She wrote Ali a love note and loved her more than a friend. Alison was leading Emily on though and had no real feelings for her than friendship. However, in "Monsters in the End," she chose to give Emily the snow globe with the hidden key. Alison tells her to keep it safe because it's "a lot more valuable than it looks." This might mean that Alison trusts Emily more than the other girls. Alison also tells her that Emily is the only one that really "understands her". The she can be honest with. When Emily was on the brink of death In "Over My Dead Body," she wakes up and she sees Alison. Alison tells her that she misses her the most and was her favorite, and that no one loved her as much as Emily did. She also questions if she really wants to be free of "A," and also questions whether she wants to stay in the position she is in or join her. Emily then asks if she knows who "A" is. Alison responds that of course she knows. After Emily asks her to tell her, she states she can't because "Two can only keep a secret if one of them is dead." Alison then gently kisses her, which makes Emily believe that she is alive. Out of the rest of the girls, Alison said that Emily is the only one who truly understands her and with whom she could completely be honest. In "Miss Me x 100," Alison confesses to Emily that she has feelings for her, and that Emily's kisses weren't just for practice as she lead her to believe. Emily stayed with Alison when she was home alone; Emily kissed Alison, who returned the kiss.

Hanna Marin (see "Halison") -

PPL103-00410

Alison gave Hanna the name "Hefty Hanna", mocking her weight. Despite being the sweetest of the bunch, Hanna was often cruelly mocked and teased by Alison. This is seen in "Know Your Frenemies" as well as in "Never Letting Go" and other episodes. In "Know Your Frenemies" we also find that Alison even convinces Hanna to throw up to lose weight, therefore starting an eating disorder for Hanna. She also convinces Hanna not to eat in "Pilot" with the excuse she is being a friend. She is very mean to her during "To Kill a Mocking Girl" calls her a wannabe and other rude words leaving Hanna in tears. She doesn't stop until Aria tells her to. Alison tells Hanna that she didn't mean it and that she was freaked out about "The Jenna Thing." Alison also mentioned in her diary that she almost convinced 'Hefty Hanna' to shave her head. Out of the four girls, Alison seems to be the meanest to Hanna because she was jealous of Hanna's good looks; she knew that Hanna had the potential to take her place as the most popular girl at Rosewood high, if she lost weight and gained confidence. She usually leaves Emily and Hanna feeling bad about themselves. Hanna also has the most hallucinations about Ali, such as in the hospital and with her therapist. This could be because she never had the guts to stand up to Alison's teasing and subconsciously feels upset about never doing so (although she once tried to get Ali to stop bullying Lucas, but ultimately backed down). Other than the times she was cruel to Hanna, they were very good friends and Ali was nice to her.

Spencer Hastings (see "Spalison") -

PLL115-1178

Her relationship with Spencer is very different. Spencer and her were always fighting, and trying to out-do each other. She usually leaves Spencer annoyed with her and Ali distressed because Spencer is the only one of the four girls who could ever stand up to Ali, which fact first comes apparent in "Pilot", when they have their argument in Spencer's house, the night of Ali's disappearance. There, Ali threatens to tell Melissa about Spencer's kissing Ian or else she will. Spencer yells at her that if she should so say one word to her, she'll tell everyone the truth about "The Jenna Thing." Also in "If At First You Don't Succeed, Lie, Lie Again" she is again seen pressuring Spencer to tell her sister about Ian. (This is hypocritical considering the fact that she was secretly dating Ian, and Alison probably did it in order to make Spencer look bad while getting Ian to herself.) Spencer tells Alison that she is sick of her games, and Alison is dead to her already. Alison appears distraught, then Alison leaves angrily, and Spencer follows her. Spencer is the most like Alison: smart, determined, sophisticated, and will do just about anything to be the best.

Family

Jessica DiLaurentis -

2013-06-19 11-03-51

Alison often threw tantrums to get what she wanted from her mother Jessica, as seen in "Turn of the Shoe." She would hold her breath until Jessica gave in, a trick Alison perfected at the age of 5 to get what she wanted. Jessica also took notice of CeCe Drake's growing bad influence over Alison and tried to put a stop to it. Alison seemed to challenge her mother's authority somewhat in order to do the things she wanted. In "A is for Answers," Alison reveals that Jessica is the person who buried her alive and knows who her attempted murderer is. Jessica covered for this person until her death. Shana Fring also mentions in "EscApe From New York" that Jessica was afraid of Alison. When Jessica's body was found by Pepe, Ali stood in the background wearing a hoodie to prevent her from being seen and cried.

Jason DiLaurentis (see "Jalison") -

PLL207-00655

She did not have such a great relationship with her brother Jason, due to his drug addiction and their mutual disrespect of each other's boundaries. Both had no qualms going into each other's room, stealing and breaking each other's belongings. Some glimpses of that were seen in "The Goodbye Look," "My Name Is Trouble," and "Surface Tension." In one instance, Alison had fled one of her brother's house parties in tears, blaming her distress on Jason and his friends' invasiveness in her room, but left the particulars vague.

Kenneth DiLaurentis -

Tjuzhgdfvs

Alison's relationship with her father Kenneth is indeterminate. Kenneth is stern and intimidating, and seems to impose his authority on Jason more than Alison. He seems oblivious to the things that Alison has done. In "Whirly Girlie," Kenneth comes back to Rosewood when he finds out that Alison is alive. When Alison comes home, he is very protective of her and wouldn't let her leave the house. Kenneth promises Alison that he will never let her out of his sight again.

Other Friends

Duncan Albert - Alison had a some sort of secret friendship or relationship with Duncan before her death. Duncan saw a side of her she didn't show other people. It seemed that even though using a fake name, Alison was much more honest and real with him. It seemed like an indication of what a better person the adult Ali would have been like, but never got a chance to happen. Duncan met Alison/Vivian in a book store in Brookhaven. Vivian often spoke about her four friends to Duncan, which mean she trusted him to a certain extent. He reveals that he and Vivian met up at a place near Brookhaven quite often during the summer Alison disappeared. He also reveals that he knew Vivian's real name was Alison but was unaware of her death until Aria told him. During the friendship Duncan often took Alison up to his helicopter. He explains that he and Alison used to fly often and that she used to feel free, safe, and in control. He also mentions that he might have been in love with Alison.

CeCe Drake  (see "Cali") -

Alison and cece drake

CeCe dated Jason, and sometimes hung out with Alison, but CeCe was very similar to Alison's attitude. CeCe taught Alison some of the wicked stuff she knew. And also Alison told CeCe some secrets about the girls. CeCe and Alison had more of a big sister, little sister relationship. In Season 4, it's revealed CeCe and Alison had an unhealthy relationship. Mrs. DiLaurentis says CeCe would pose as Alison. CeCe hated Alison for getting her kicked out of college. CeCe assumed the other girls were in on it to, so she joined The "A" Team to torture them; however it is revealed that she killed Darren Wilden to protect Alison and therefore not on the A-Team.

Paige McCullers - On a date of Paige and Emily Fields, CeCe reminds them of Paige's violent past with Alison. In a flash back at one the liar's sleepovers they are trading clothes and Aria points out the bruises on Alison's back she simply replies " Oh Pigskin gave them to me" they asked who Pigskin is but Alison didn't answer. As Alison does with everyone she was going to tell everyone that she is a lesbian. Alison had an enmity of sorts against Paige McCullers, whom she nicknamed "Pigskin." Apparently, Alison once received a kick to the back in a sport from Paige after she annoyed her too much, but swore vengeance upon "Pigskin." Somehow aware of Paige's secret pining for Emily, Alison forged love letters in Emily's name and sent them to Paige, eventually leading to Alison intercepting one of Paige's own letters, which Alison used to blackmail Paige into becoming her "property." CeCe speculates Alison to have most likely been afraid of Paige. In "Miss Me x 100," Alison tries to make amends with Paige and apologizes for the way she treated her, but Paige doesn't accept her apology, saying that Alison is a horrible person.

"Autopsy" and "Death"

Alison seemingly died of suffocation, which is revealed in "The Jenna Thing" and mentioned once again in "For Whom the Bell Tolls." More information on her death is revealed in "Save the Date:" Alison had been hit from behind or was running away when she had been hit on the head. The wound had come from a curved, blunt object (which Spencer believes to be her old field hockey stick). However, the impact had not killed her immediately. The autopsy found her lungs to be filled with dirt, implying that she had been inhaling dirt in the last moments before her death. This basically means her assailant had struck her, either knocking her unconscious or otherwise paralyzing her defenses, and proceeded to bury her alive. We later come to find in "Over My Dead Body" that the "curved, blunt object" actually wasn't a field hockey stick, but a shovel. Alison was buried by the same object that damaged her head. In "It Happened 'That Night'," Alison's body is stolen from her grave. In "This Is A Dark Ride " Alison's body is found in the ice cooler at the Halloween Ghost Train Party, after Toby and Noel fight, knocking the Cooler down, showing a black leather bag. Also shown the same episode was a flashback of her hand coming out of the ground, revealing she may have escaped.  It was revealed in a flashback in "A Dangerous Game" that someone helped pull Ali out of the ground. We can see a hand reaching down and grabbing Ali's. In Now You See Me, Now You Don't, it is revealed that Carla Grunwald was the hand who pulled her out, meaning Alison did not die, and is still alive, hiding from A. Whose body it really is remains unknown. Alison was hit with a shovel and buried alive, but survived. Someone else was also hit with a shovel and buried alive, but died.

Dead/Alive Status

When "A" first appears to The Liars, they believe it is Alison. However, her body is found underneath her old backyard, confirming she is dead. Throughout the series, her death has been somewhat always ambigious (even though her body was found). This is supported by the fact Alison, on occasion, will "visit" the girls. For example, she leaves lipstick on a cup, leaves Spencers door open and the pill bottle she took, saved Emily from the barn, and left the doll where she put it in Aria's "dream".  She appears to them whenever they are hurt, about to be hurt, etc. She does it only when the girls are in trouble, and makes it seem as a hallucination or dream (but, purposely leaves traces of her existence there). In Season 3, a blonde woman in a red coat is introduced. She appears to be the Leader of The A-Team. Many fans believed she was Alison, although it would not make sense, as Alison was stalked by A. She visits Aria when she is sick and says "Do I look dead to you", implying she is indeed alive. In the Season 3 Finale, A DAngerous GAme, the mysterious Red Coat saves the girls, including Mona, from perishing in the fire from the lodge. Hanna wakes up and sees Alison wearing the red coat staring at her, with a worried expression on her face. The girls then conclude that Alison is Red Coat. Mona reveals Red Coat wears the "Alison" Mask, meaning her face could have easily been hallucinated. Its also revealed in This Is A Dark Ride that Alison was indeed buried alive, as her hand is seen sliding from the earth in a flashback. In A DAngerous GAme, a hand reaches to pull Alison out, furthur proving Ali is alive. Its not confirmed on whether Alison is alive or not, until Now You See Me, Now You Don't. The girls see two blondes in red coats. One is CeCe Drake, who is a member of The A-Team, but another one was there who saved Emilys life from a saw, and led the girls to A's main lair. Its obvious this one is Alison, as she appears to be helping her old friends. A seems to be spying on Alison, as a picture of Red Coat from the night of the fire is taped to the wall (her face not shown). By this point, the girls slowley process the idea of Ali being alive. Its not until Carla Grunwald appears to confirm there theory. She says that she has a "sense of knowing things", and that Alison would call her, trying to figure out who trying to hurt her. Mrs. Grunwald goes on to say, the night Alison went missing, she felt something awful. She drove to Rosewood. and went into her backyard. She saw Alisons hand, and its revealed Mrs. Grunwald pulled Alison out of the ground. She drove Alison to a hospital, but Alison ran away when she wasn't looking. Mrs. Grunwald says Alison is hiding from A, and that "he" is after her. "He" appears to be Ezra Fitz, who is after Ali for unknown reasons, but could possibly be "Board Shorts"- the older boy Ali was seeing.

In Grave New World it was revealed that Alison is alive, and in Miss Me x 100, it was revealed that Bethany Young was the girl who was buried in Alison's grave.

Notes

  • She, along with the other Liars, blinded Jenna Marshall in a prank intended for Toby Cavanaugh. However, in the "The First Secret," it's shown that Ali strongly disliked Jenna, (seemingly because Jenna refused to be intimidated by Ali, and refused to join her group of friends, saying that she'd prefer to pick her own friends), hinting that maybe Jenna really was Ali's intended target with the stink-bomb, and blinding her was no accident at all. Another possibility could be that Ali was forced by "A" to pull the prank, which would explain her insistence on going through with it, and her obvious shock at seeing Jenna inside, assuming that was not part of the deal.
  • Ali displays sociopathic qualities: controlling, paranoid, charming, seductive, dominant, incapable of remorse, and extremely intelligent. Though at times, Ali does seem to display real emotion.
  • She was kissed by Emily Fields, but later informed Emily that she likes boys and would only kiss her for practice for the real thing. In "Over My Dead Body," it is implied that Alison may have actually loved Emily, or else that is simply Emily's wishful thinking.
  • Spencer Hastings knew Alison was seeing an "older boy" the summer she disappeared. The girls did not know for sure that the mystery guy was Ian until seeing The Kissing Rock video in "Careful What U Wish 4."
  • Spencer Hastings was the only one of her friends who did stand up to Ali.
  • Her signature lipstick color is Jungle Red.
  • Alison seems to foreshadow her own death in "Please, Do Talk About Me When I'm Gone."
  • In "The First Secret" Ali tells a story about two twin girls which one killed the other and gets sent away, and that the other escaped yesterday (October 29, 2008). Later on, as the girls walk past a creepy house there is a car that states: "Radley Sanitarium" - a place which plays a major role in the books, and in Season 3 of the show.
  • A popular theory among fans is that Alison isn't dead and her twin, Courtney, died on September 1, 2009.
  • In the episode, "This Is A Dark Ride" Alison's body is discovered after it went missing in the episode "It Happened 'That Night'"
  • Another theory is that Alison is dead, but it is her twin sister, Courtney, who is the leader of the A team and the one Emily saw in the red coat digging up Alison's grave, "Dead To Me."
  • She thought she was pregnant, but Mona revealed that it was a false alarm and she was not.
  • Besides A, Alison is the one who has the most secrets.
  • In "Dead to Me" Emily remembered something from "That Night." She saw red coat and it was thought to be Alison along with red coat's helper: Mona.
  • At the end of Season 3, it was revealed that Alison is possibly alive.
    • In Now You See Me, Now You Don't, it was confirmed that Alison is alive and hiding from A.
    • In Grave New World, the girls finally come face to face with Alison and she tells them that she can't come back because it's not safe.
    • In A is for Answers, Alison tells the girls everything about the night she dissapeared.
  • Alison always appears in the season finales.
  • In The Mirror Has Three Faces, her mom revealed that CeCe and her "wore" each other's personalities.
  • It is revealed in A is for Answers that she was the one who pushed Ian off the bell tower.
  • In "Taking This One to the Grave" it was revealed that Alison's full name is, Alison Lauren DiLaurentis.

Trivia

  • Ironically, the name Alison means "truth" in Irish. It also means "noble" - everything Alison is not since she is a manipulative liar.
  • Sasha Pieterse, the actress playing Alison, could have played Hanna Marin, because she originally auditioned for the role of Hanna. Then the producers had her try out for Alison and she eventually got the role.
  • In Alison's bedroom you can see a picture of her, Jason, and a girl identical to her, and under that French saying about twins (possibly hinting that she has a twin).
  • Her surname DiLaurentis is anagram as 'Liars United', very similar to the tagline for Season 4 Liars Unite.
